Vintage 1977 Jazzy Jacket & Cap Set #1410

MATERIALS:
JACKET -18 [19,20,21] Balls Sirdar Pullman, 50 g Balls; CAP - 3 Balls
1 Pair Each Knitting Needles #4 & #6

MEASUREMENTS:
Fits Size = 81cm [86cm,91cm,96cm] - 32” [34”,36”,38”]
Finished Size = 7.5cm [3”] Larger
Length = 64cm [25”]
Sleeves = 13cm [5”]

TENSION:
8 Sts = 5cm [2”]

LEFT FRONT:
Use #4 needles, cast on 58 [60,62,64] sts.

1ST ROW: Sl 1, P to last st, K 1.

2ND ROW: Sl 1, K to end.

3RD ROW: Sl 1, P to last 2 sts, K 2 tog.

4TH ROW: Sl 1, P to last st, K 1.

5TH ROW: Sl 1, K to end.

6TH ROW: Sl 1, P to last st, K 1.

Keep cont of patt thru out & dec 1 st at front edge of 3rd & foll 6th rows until 48 [50,52,54] sts, then in each 4th row until 34 [36,39,41] sts rem.

Work 2  [2,3,3] rows without shaping.

3RD & 4TH SIZES ONLY:
Patt to last 2 sts, K 2 tog.

ALL SIZES:
NEXT ROW: Patt to end, cast on 20 sts for sleeve.

Cont in patt, dec 1 st at front edge in 1st [1st, 3rd, 3rd] & every foll 4th row until 48 [48,50,52] sts rem.

Cont straight until sleeve meas 20cm [8”], end with WS row.

SHAPE SHOULDER:
Cast off 7 [8,8,8] sts at beg next & foll alt row.

Cast off 8 [8,8,9] sts at beg foll 2 alt rows & 8 [8,9,9] sts at beg foll 2 alt rows.

RIGHT FRONT:
Work same as left front, reverse all shapings.

BACK:
Use #4 needles, cast on 70 [74,78,82] sts & work in patt as for left front, without shaping, until work meas same as fronts to sleeve, end WS row.

Cast on 20 sts at beg next 2 rows.

Cont in patt until sleeve meas same as front sleeves, end with WS row.

SHAPE SHOULDERS:
Cast off 7 [8,8,8] sts at beg next 4 [12,8,4] rows.

Cast off 8 [0,9,9] sts at beg next 8 [0,4,8] rows. Cast off rem sts.

FRONT BORDERS [MAKE 2]:
Use #6 needles, cast on 6 sts & work in garter st, sl 1st st of every row until sufficient length to fit up front to centre back neck. Cast off.

SLEEVE BORDERS [MAKE 2]:
Work as front borders to fit around sleeve edges.

FINISHING:
Join ends of front borders, fit to front & neck edges & sew in place.

Join ends of sleeve borders & attach to sleeves.

Turn to inside & sl st lightly in place.

Turn back lower edge of fronts & sew in place to form pockets as shown.

CAP:
Use #4 needles, cast on 72 sts & work in patt, same as back of jacket for approx 30cm [12”], end with 4th patt row.

SHAPE CROWN:
1ST ROW: Sl 1, K 1, * K 2 tog, K 2, rep from * to last 2 sts, K 2 tog – [54 sts].

2ND ROW: Sl 1, P to last st, K 1.

3RD ROW: Sl 1, * P 2 tog, P 1, rep from * to last 2 sts, K 2 tog – [36 sts].

4TH ROW: Sl 1, K to end.

5TH ROW: Sl 1, [P 2 tog] 17 times, K 1.

6TH ROW: Sl 1, P to last st, K 1.

7TH ROW: Sl 1, [K 2 tog] 9 times – [10 sts].

Break off yarn, thread end thru rem sts, fasten off securely.

Sew up seam & roll back to form neat roll.
