Vintage 1977 Hooded Jacket #1409

MATERIALS:
22 [24] Balls Main Colour [MC], 2 Balls Contrast [CC], Patons Jet Patonised, 50 g Balls
1 Pair #4 Disc Knitting Needles 36cm [14”]
1 Disc Crochet Hook 5.00 [#6]
8 Toggles

MEASUREMENTS:
Fits Bust = 80cm [90cm] - 32” [36”]
Finished Bust = 88cm [101cm] – 34 ½” [39 ¾”]
Length = 78cm [79cm] – 30 ¾” [31”]
Sleeves = 43cm [17”]

IMPORTANT NOTE:
DC [UK] = SC [US]
TR [UK] = DC [US]

JACKET:
[Worked in 1 piece to underarm]

Use MC, cast on 219 [253] sts.

1ST ROW: K.

2ND ROW: P.

3RD ROW: K 3, * [y fwd, sl 1, k 1] 5 times, k 7, rep from * end last rep, k 2.

4TH ROW: P 3, * [K 2 tog, P 1] 5 times, P 7, rep from * end last rep P 2.

Rep 1st – 4th rows incl, 5 times.

25TH ROW: K 15, * K 2 tog, k 15, rep from * to end 207 [239] sts.

26TH ROW: P.

27TH ROW: K 3, * [y fwd, sl 1, K 1] 5 times, K 6, rep from * end last rep K 2.

28TH ROW: P 3, * [K 2 tog, P 1] 5 times, P 6, rep from * end last rep P 2.

29TH ROW: K.

Rep 26th – 29th rows incl 4 times, then 26th – 28th rows incl once.

49TH ROW: K 15, * K 2 tog, K 15, rep from * to end 195 [225] sts.

50TH ROW: P.

51ST ROW: K 3, * [y fwd, sl 1, K 1] 5 times, K 5, rep from * end last rep K 2.

52ND ROW: P 3, * [K 2 tog, P 1] 5 times, P 5, rep from * end last rep P 2.

53RD ROW: K.

Rep 50th – 53rd rows incl 4 times, then 50th -52nd rows incl once.

73RD ROW: K 14, * K 2 tog, K 13, rep from * to last st, K 1 – 183 [211] sts.

Cont dec in this way in centre of st st panels in foll 24th rows twice – 159 [183] sts.

Cont in patt until work meas 54cm [21 ¾”] from beg, end with compl patt.

DIVIDE FOR ARMHOLES:
NEXT ROW: Patt 43 [49], cast off 1 st, patt 71 [83], cast off 1 st, patt 43 [49].

Work 40 rows on last 43 [49] sts for left front.

SHAPE NECK:
Cast off 13 [14] sts at beg of next row.

Dec at neck edge in next row & alt rows 3 times – 26 [31] sts.

Work 1 row.

SHAPE SHOULDER:
[NOTE: Where a # of sts is given, this does not incl extra sts made in patt.]

Cast off 4 sts at beg of next row & alt row 3 times, then 5 sts in alt rows 2 [3] times.

Join yarn to next 71 [83] sts & work 49 rows for back.

SHAPE SHOULDERS:
Cast off 4 sts at beg of next 8 rows, then 5 sts at beg of foll 4 [6] rows.

Cast off rem sts. Join yarn to rem sts & work right front to corres with left front.

SLEEVES:
Use MC, cast on 63 sts.

1ST ROW: K.

2ND ROW: P.

3RD ROW: K 3, * [y fwd, sl 1, K 1] 5 times, K 2, rep from * to end.

4TH ROW: P 3, * [K 2 tog, P 1] 5 times, P 2, rep from * to end.

Rep 1st - 4th rows incl, until work meas 38cm [15”] from beg, end with 4th row.

SHAPE TOP:
Cast off 4 sts at beg of next 12 rows. Cast off rem sts.

HOOD:
Use MC, cast on 75 sts & work in patt as for sleeves, until work meas 19cm [7 ¼”] from beg, end with 4th row.

SHAPE TOP:
NEXT ROW: Patt 31, cast off 13 sts, patt 31.

Work 11 rows on last 31 sts. Cast off.

Join yarn to rem sts & work 11 rows. Cast off.

EDGINGS:
Use back st, join shoulder, sleeve & hood seams.

Work edging around all outside edges of jacket & hood [drawing lower edge of hood in to fit neck meas, armholes, top & lower edges of sleeves.

With RS facing, use hk & MC, work 1 rnd DC evenly around garment, have # divisible by 4, sl st in 1st DC.

2ND RND: 3 CH, 1 TR in next DC, * 1 CH, sk 1 DC, 1 TR in each of next 3 DC, rep from * to last 2 DC, 1 CH, sk 1 DC, 1 TR in last DC, use CC, sl st in 3rd CH at beg.

3RD RND: Use CC, 1 CH, 1 DC, in 1st TR, * 1 TR in DC sk in prev rnd, 1 DC in each of next 3 TR, rep from * end last rep with 1 DC in last TR, sl st in 1 CH at beg. Fasten off.

TOGGLE BANDS:
Use hk & MC, CH 22, sk 13 of these CH, 1 DC in each of last 8 CH, 13 CH, sl st in 1st CH of foundation CH. Fasten off.

FINISHING:
Use flat seam & CC, sew in sleeves & sew on hood, beg & end 15 sts from front edges.

Sew on toggles & toggle bands.
