Vintage 1971 Mod Striped Cross-Over Vest #1414

Cross-0ver vest is knit in unusual vertical stripes of alternate stocking & garter stitches…a simple but striking combination.

MATERIALS:
Patons Sunspun Boucle: 2 [3,3] Balls Main Color [M]; 2 Balls 1st Contrast Color [C1]; 1 Ball each 2nd Contrast Color [C2] & 3rd Contrast Color [C3]
1 Pair Disc Knitting Needles #10
2 Hooks & Eyes

MEASUREMENTS:
Bust [Tight Fit] = 32” [34”, 36”]
Length = 16” [16 ¼”, 16 ½”]

TENSION:
11 ½ Sts = 2”

TERMS ARE UK:
DC  [UK] = SC [USA]
TR [UK] = DC [USA]

RIGHT FRONT:
use C1, cast on 6 sts.

1ST ROW: K.

2ND ROW: K to last st, inc in last st.

3RD ROW: Inc in 1st st, K to end.

4TH ROW: Rep 2nd row.

Use M, work 4 rows st st, inc [at same edge as before] in every row.

Use C2, K 4 rows, inc [as before] in every row.

Use M, work 4 rows st st, inc [as before] in every row.

Use C3, K 4 rows, inc [as before] in every row.

Use M, work 4 rows st st, inc [as before] in every row.

Cont in stripes, inc [as before] in every row until there are 46 [44, 40] sts, then in alt rows until there are 52 [54,56] sts.

Cast on 10 sts at end of next row, & foll alt rows 3 times, to 92 [94,96] sts.

Work 32 [32,30] rows in stripes.

SHAPE ARMHOLE:
1ST ROW: Cast off 41 [42,44] sts, work to end.

2ND ROW: Work to last 2 sts, work 2 tog.

3RD ROW: Work 2 tog, work to end.

Rep last 2 rows once [twice, twice].

SMALLEST SIZE ONLY: Rep 2nd row once.

ALL SIZES: Work 4 rows straight. Cont thus for back:

BACK:
Work 4 rows.

Inc at shaped edge on every row 5 [6,6] times, then cast on 41 [42,44] sts at end of next row.

Work 124 [128,134] rows.

SHAPE ARMHOLE:
Same as right front & back.

LEFT FRONT:
Work to corres with right front, reverse front shapings. Cast off.

ARMHOLE BANDS:
Use C1, K up 80 [86,90] sts & K 2 rows. Cast off.

FRONT BAND:
Use back st, join shoulder seams.

Use C1, K up 192 [198,204] sts, & K 2 rows. Cast off.

LOWER EDGE BAND:
Use C1, K up 288 [300,312] sts, & K 2 rows. Cast off.

FINISHING:
Attach hooks & eyes to hold overlap in place.

Use 4 strands of C1, 3 yds long, make twisted cord.

Tie in bow & attach to vest as shown.
