Vintage 1971 Quick & Easy Spring Jacket #1416
This is a simple jacket pattern with short sleeves & garter stitch borders…perfect for those in the early stages of knitting.

MATERIALS:
5 [6,6] Sirdar Spree 50g Balls
1 Pair Knitting Needles #8/4.00

MEASUREMENTS:
Bust = 81 [89,97] cm; 32” [35”,38”]
Length = 58 [58,58] cm; 23” [23”,23”]
Sleeve = 20 [20,20] cm; 9” [9”,9”]

TENSION:
20 Sts = 10 cm; 4”

BACK:
Cast on 82 [90,98] sts & work 4 rows in K 1, P 1 rib.

NEXT ROW: [RS], K.

1ST PATT ROW: K 1, * y fwd, K 2 tog, rep from * to last st, K 1.

K 3 rows.

5TH PATT ROW: K 1, * sl 1, K 1, psso, y fwd, rep from * to last st, K 1.

K 3 rows.

These 8 rows create patt.

Cont in patt until work meas 38cm [15”] or needed length to armholes, end with WS row.

SHAPE ARMHOLES:
Cast off 6 sts at beg next 2 rows.

Keep patt correct, dec 1 st each end of next 3 rows, then each alt row until 58 [64,70] sts.

Cont straight until 58cm [23”] from cast on, end WS row.

SHAPE SHOULDERS:
Cast off 8 [9,10] sts at beg of next 4 rows. Cast off rem sts.

LEFT FRONT:
Cast on 42 [46,50] sts.

1ST ROW: [K 1, P 1] to last 5 sts, K to end.

2ND ROW: K 5, rib to end.

Rep last 2 rows once.

K next row.

BEG PATT:
1ST PATT ROW [WS]: K 5, [y fwd, K 2 tog] to last st, K 1.

K 3 rows.

5TH PATT ROW: K 5, * sl 1, K 1, psso, y fwd rep from * to last st, K 1.

K 3 rows.

Rep these 8 rows until 5cm [2”] less than back to armhole, end at side edge.

SHAPE NECK:
NEXT ROW: Patt to last 6 sts, K 2 tog, K 4.

Cont dec at neck edge of each 4th row, work decs inside garter st border as before, AT SAME TIME when work meas same as back to armhole, end at side edge.

SHAPE ARMHOLE:
Cont neck shaping as before, cast off 6 sts at beg next row, work 1 row, then dec 1 st at armhole edge of next 3 rows.

Dec 1 st at same edge of next 3 [3,4] alt rows then cont neck shaping only until 21 [23,25] sts rem.

Cont straight until same length as back to shoulder, end at side edge.

SHAPE SHOULDER:
Cast off 8 [9,10] sts at beg next & alt row, then cont on rem 5 sts to fit centre back neck. Cast off.

RIGHT FRONT:
Work same as left front, but reverse shapings & garter st border.

SLEEVES:
Cast on 50 [54,60] sts & work 4 rows in K 1, P 1 rib as back.

K next row, then beg patt as back, inc 1 st each end of 6th patt row & foll 8th rows until 58 [62,68] sts, work extra sts into patt.

Cont straight until sleeve meas 20cm [8”] or req length from cast on, end WS row.

SHAPE TOP:
Keep patt correct, cast off 6 sts at beg of next 2 rows.

Dec 1 st each end of next & foll 4th rows 6 times, then alt rows until 22 [24,28] sts rem. Cast off.

FINISHING:
Use ½ strand yarn & back st, join shoulder seams, attach band to back neck & join ends of bands.

Fit sleeves to armholes, place fullness approx 5cm [2”] either side of shoulder seam & st in place.

Join side & sleeve seams.
