Vintage 1971 Mod Filet Lace Crop Top & Midi Skirt Set #1413

This summery crocheted midi-skirt & crop top can be casual or dressy. The pattern is a double mesh with block double design at midriff & waistline. Picot edging provides buttonholes for skirt; slit it as high or low as desired.

MATERIALS:
Patons Sunspun Boucle: Skirt 7 [8] Balls; Top 4 [5] Balls
1 Disc Crochet Hook #9/3 1/2mm
1 Disc Crochet Hook #11/3mm
1 Disc Crochet Hook #12/2 1/2mm
Length of Round Elastic [Skirt]
4 Buttons [Skirt]
1 Zipper 5” [Top]

MEASUREMENTS:
Bust = 32” [35”]
Skirt Length = 24”
Top Length = 15”
Sleeves = 3”

TENSION:
11 Sts = 2” over Mesh with #9/3 1/2mm Hook

TERMS ARE UK:
DC  [UK] = SC [USA]
TR [UK] = DC [USA]

NOTE:
TO DEC: [yoh, draw lp thru next st, yoh & draw thru 2 lps] twice, yoh & draw thru all 3 lps on hk.

SKIRT:
[Worked in 1 piece.]
Use #9 hk, CH 248 [269].

**1ST ROW: Sk 7 CH, 1 TR in next CH, * 2 CH, sk 2 CH, 1 TR in next CH, rep from * to end.

2ND ROW: [1 DC, 1 CH] in 1st TR, * 2 CH, sk 2 sts, 1 TR in next st, rep from * to end, work last TR in TCH**.

Rep 2nd row 22 times.

Change to #11 hk & rep 2nd row 14 times.

Change to #12 hk & rep 2nd row 14 times. Fasten off.

HIPBAND:
Use #9 hk, CH 173 [188].

1ST ROW: Sk 7 CH, * 1 TR in each of next 3 CH, 2 CH, sk 2 CH, rep from * to last CH, 1 TR in last CH.

2ND ROW: [1 DC, 1 CH] in 1st TR, * 2 CH, 1 TR in next TR, 2 CH, sk 1 TR, 1 TR in next TR, rep from * to TCH lp, 2 CH, 1 TR in 3rd CH of lp.

3RD ROW: [1 DC, 1 CH] in 1st TR, 2 CH, sk 1 sp, * [3 TR in next sp] twice, 2 CH, sk 1 sp, rep from * to TCH lp, 1 TR in 3rd CH of lp.

4TH ROW: [1 DC, 1 CH] in 1st TR, 2 CH, * 1 TR in each of next 6 TR, 2 CH, rep from * to TCH lp, 1 TR in 3rd CH of lp.

FINISHING:
Use flat seam & sew skirt to hipband.

Use #9 hk, work block patt as in 9th row of hipband around front & lower edges, inc where needed to keep work flat.

Sew on buttons, so that overlap is approx 1 ½”.

Work 2 rows DC around top of skirt, working over elastic.

TOP:
[In 1 piece to armholes.]
Use #9 hk, CH 179 [197].

Work same as skirt from ** to **.

Rep 2nd row 4 times.

DIVIDE FOR ARMHOLES:
FRONT:
1ST ROW: Sl st over 3 sts, patt 82 [91] turn.

2ND ROW: 3 CH, sk 1 CH, dec, * 2 CH, 1 TR in next TR, rep from * to last 2 sps, 2 CH, sk 2 CH, dec, 1 TR in TCH.

3RD ROW: 3 CH, sk 1 TR, dec, 1 CH, 1 TR in next TR, * 2 CH, 1 TR in next TR, rep from * to last sp, 1 CH, sk 1 CH, dec.

4TH ROW: 3 CH, dec, 1 TR in next TR, * 2 CH, 1 TR in next TR, rep from * to last sp, dec.

5TH ROW: Rep 4th row.

6TH ROW: 3 CH, dec, * 2 CH, 1 TR in next TR, rep from * to last sp, 2 CH, dec ***.

Work 2 [3] rows patt.

SHAPE NECK:
1ST ROW: Patt 28 [32], turn.

Cont in patt, dec at neck edge in alt rows 5 times to 23 [27] sts. Fasten off.

Sk next 14 [15] sts, join yarn to rem sts & compl to corres with other side.

BACK:
Sk next 5 sts, patt 82 [91], turn.

Work same as front to ***.

Work 13 [14] rows patt. Fasten off.

SLEEVES:
Use #9 hk, CH 67 [69].

Work 6 rows patt.

SHAPE TOP:
1ST ROW: Sl st over 3 sts, patt to last 3 sts, turn.

Dec at each end of every row until 29 sts rem. Fasten off.

MIDRIFF BAND:
Use #9 hk, CH 128 [143].

Work 9 rows same as for hip band of skirt. Fasten off.

FINISHING:
Use flat seam & attach midriff band to lower edge of top; join shoulder & sleeve seams.

Join side seam & leave 5” opening for zipper.

Sew in sleeves.

Work block edging as 9th hip band row around neck & lower edge of sleeves.

Sew in zipper.
