Vintage 1971 Lace Party Dress #1415

This lovely lace dress is crocheted from the shoulders down, so length is a matter of choice…mini, midi, or maxi. A change of hook sizes gives a slight flare to the skirt.

MATERIALS:
Patons Sunspun Boucle, 7 [8,9] Balls
1 Disc Crochet Hook #9/3 1/2mm
1 Disc Crochet Hook #8/4mm
1 Disc Crochet Hook #11/3mm

MEASUREMENTS:
Bust = 32” [34”,36”]
Length = 38”

TENSION:
Using #9/3 1/2mm hook.
1 Patt = 1 1/2” Width
1 Patt = 2 1/2'’ Depth

TERMS ARE UK:
DC  [UK] = SC [USA]
TR [UK] = DC [USA]

BACK & FRONT:
[Make both alike.]
Beg at shoulder edge.

STRAPS:
[MAKE 2]
Use #9  hk, 16 CH.

1ST ROW: [WS] Sk 1 CH, 1 DC in next CH, 6 CH, sk 6 CH, [1 DC, picot, 1 DC] in next CH, 6 CH, sk 6 CH, 1 DC in last CH.

2ND ROW: 4 CH, 6 D TR in each 6 CH lp to end, 1 D TR in last DC.

3RD ROW: 1 CH, 1 DC in 1st D TR, 6 CH, [1 DC, picot, 1 DC] in sp bet 6 D TR grps, 6 CH, 1 DC in TCH.

4TH ROW: * 6 CH, [1 DC, picot, 1 DC] in 6 CH lp, rep from * to end, 3 CH, 1TR in last DC.

5TH ROW: 1 CH, 1 DC in 1st TR, 6 CH, [1 DC, picot, 1 DC] in 6 CH lp, 6 CH, 1 DC in 4th CH of TCH lp.

Rep 2nd to 4th rows incl once. Fasten off.

MAIN PIECE:
Join with sl st in last st of 1st strap, CH 21 [28,35], join with sl st in 3rd CH of 2nd strap. Fasten off.

Join yarn to last st of 2nd strap.

1ST ROW: 6 CH, [1 DC, picot, 1 DC] in 6 CH lp, 6 CH, [1 DC, picot, 1 DC] in last st of strap * 6 CH, sk 6 CH, [1 DC, picot, 1 DC] in next CH, rep from * 1 [2,3] times, 6 CH [1 DC, picot, 1 DC] in 1st st of next strap, 6 CH, [1 DC, picot, 1 DC] in 6 CH lp, 6 CH, 1 DC in 4th CH of next lp.

2ND ROW: 4 CH, 6 D TR, in each 6 CH lp to end, 1 D TR in last DC.

3RD ROW: 1 CH, 1 DC in 1st D TR, * 6 CH, [1 DC, picot, 1 DC] in sp bet 6 D TR grps, rep from * to last grp, 6 CH, 1 DC in TCH.

4TH ROW: * 6 CH, [1 DC, picot, 1 DC] in 6 CH lp, rep from * to end, 3 CH, 1 TR in last DC.

5TH ROW: 1 CH, 1 DC in 1st TR, * 6 CH, [1 DC, picot, 1 DC] in 6 CH lp, rep from * to TCH lp, 6 CH, 1 DC in 4th CH of TCH lp.

6TH ROW: Rep 2nd row, CH 15 at end.

Join another ball of yarn to beg of last row, CH 14, fasten off.

Ret to 15 CH & cont as follows:

NEXT ROW: Sk 1 CH, 1 DC in next CH, 6 CH, sk 6 CH, [1 DC, picot, 1 DC] in next CH, 6 CH, sk 6 CH, [1 DC, picot, 1 DC] in 1st TR, * 6 CH, [1 DC, picot, 1 DC] in next st bet D TR grps, rep from * to last TR grp, 6 CH, sk 6 D TR [1 DC, picot, 1 DC] in last D TR, 6 CH, sk 6 CH, [1 DC, picot, 1 DC] in next CH, 6 CH, sk 6 CH, 1 DC in last CH.

Rep 4th & 5th rows once.

Change to #11 hk & rep 2nd to 5th rows incl twice.

Change to #9 hk & rep 2nd to 5th rows incl 3 times.

Change to #8 hk & rep 2nd to 5th rows incl 8 times. Fasten off.

FINISHING:
Use flat seam, & join side & shoulder seams.

Use #11 hk, work 1 rnd DC evenly around neck & armhole edges.

2ND RND: 1 DC in 1st DC, * picot, 1 DC in each of next 3 DC, rep from * to end. Fasten off.
