Vintage 1970s Mod Knit Dress with Lacy Panels #1353


  A enchanting short sleeve dress with lace panel accents to knit for spring…perfectly simple…simply perfect.

MATERIALS:
19 (20, 21, 22) Balls Emu Bri-Nylon 8 Ply or English Knit 8 Ply
1 Pair Each #8 & #9 Knitting Needles
1 Crochet Hook #12

MEASUREMENTS:
Bust = 32” (35”, 38”, 41”) – Actual 33¾” [36¾”, 39½”, 42½”] in. for easy fit)
Length = 36¼” (37”, 37¼”, 38¼”)
Sleeve = 2½”

TENSION:
5 ½ sts = 1”

BACK & FRONT ALIKE:
Use #9 needles, cast on 117 (125, 133, 141) sts.

Work 12 rows in st st.

Change to # needles & patt.

1ST ROW (RS): P.

2ND ROW: P.

3RD ROW: K 1,* y fwd, sl 1, K 2 tog, psso, y fwd, k 1, rep from * to end.

4TH ROW: P.

5TH ROW: K1,* y fwd, sl 1, K 2 tog, psso, y fwd, K 5, rep from * to last 4 sts, y fwd, sl 1, K 2 tog, psso, y fwd, K 1.

6TH ROW: P.

7TH ROW: Rep 5th row.

8TH ROW: P.

9TH ROW: K 1, * K 3, y fwd, sl 1, K 1, psso, K 1, K 2 tog, y fwd, rep from * to last 4 sts, K 4.

10TH ROW: P.

11TH ROW: Rep 3rd row.

12TH ,13TH , & 14TH ROWS: P.

15TH ROW: K.

16TH ROW: P.

Rep last 2 rows twice more.

These 20 rows form patt.

Rep these 20 rows twice more, then rows 1st to 14th incl once.

Cont in st st.

Work 2 rows.

Dec 1 st each end of next & every foll 10th row until 105 (113, 121, 129) sts rem, then 1 st at each end of every foll 6th row until 89 (97, 105, 113) sts rem.

Cont without shaping until work meas 24” from 1st row of patt, (folding line for hem), end with P row.

Inc 1 st at each end of next & foll 12th row. 93 (101, 109, 117) sts.

Work 1 row.

Now work rows 1st to 14th incl of patt.

Mark each end of last row with colored thread to facilitate easier working, when joining raglan seams.

Shape Raglan Armholes:
Next Row: K 2, sl 1, K 1, psso, K 2 tog, K to last 6 sts, sl 1, K 1, psso, K 2 tog, K 2.

NEXT ROW: P.

Rep last 2 rows 1 (1, 1, 2) times more.

NEXT ROW: K.

NEXT ROW: P.

NEXT ROW: K 2, sl 1, K 1, psso, K 2 tog, K to last 6 sts, sl 1, K 1, psso, K 2 tog, K 2.

Beg with P row, work 3 rows in st st.

Rep last 4 rows until 37 (41, 45, 45) sts rem.

Work 1 row. Cast off.

SLEEVES
Use #9 needles, cast on 61 (69, 77, 77) sts.

Work 6 rows in st st.

Next Row: P to make hemline.

Start with P row, work further 5 rows in st st.

Change to #8 needle.

Now work rows 1st to 13th in of patt, as for back.

NEXT ROW: P 5 (6, 7, 7) * P twice into next st, P (7, 8, 8), rep from * last 7 sts, P twice into next st, P 6, 69 ( 77, 85, 85) st.

Mark each end of last row with colored thread.

SHAPE RAGLAN TOP:
NEXT ROW: K 2, sl 1, K 1, psso, K 2 tog, K to last sts, sl 1, K 1, psso, K 2 tog, K 2.

Start with P row, work 5 rows in st st.

1ST, 2ND, & 4TH SIZE ONLY:
Rep last 6 rows (2, 3) times more.

ALL SIZES:
NEXT ROW: K 2, sl 1, K 1, psso, K 2 tog, K to last 6 sts, sl 1, K 1, psso, K 2 tog, K 2.

Com with P row, work 3 rows st st.

Rep last 4 rows on 21 (25, 25, 25) sts rem.

Work 1 row. Cast off.

FINISHING:
Pin out to correct meas & press with cool iron over dry cloth.

Use flat st, & join raglan seam.

Join side & sleeve seam with back st.

Fold all hem to WS & sl st down.

CROCHET EDGING:
Join in yarn to back neck edge at right shoulder.

Work 1 row firm DC right around neck edge. Join with sl st.

NEXT ROW: 2 CH, sk DC, * 1 TR into next DC, 3 CH, 1 DC back into 1 TR, sk 2 DC, rep from to end. Join with sl st & fasten off.
