Vintage 1970s Mod Lace Midi Boho Dress #1339
A most romantic dress! This love of a dress for dreamy afternoons or evenings is worked in one piece from the hem, softly shaped at the sides & patterned all over with eyelet holes.

SIZE:
Small & Medium.
Directions are for size Small with changes for Medium in brackets.

MATERIALS:
20 (21) balls Patons Caressa
1 Pair #8 Knitting Needles
1 set #10 Disc Knitting Needles
2 Stitch-Holders
Round Elastic for Neckline
#4mm (#8) Disc Crochet Hook for Fringe
Silk Belt

GAUGE/ TENSION:
11 Sts = 2” over st st
 
MEASUREMENTS:
Fits 32” (35”) bust, actual 32” (35”)
Length (when worn, excluding fringe), 42” (42”)
Sleeve (excluding fringe), 16”

BACK:
Use #8 needles, cast on 121 (129) sts & work 2 rows st st.

** 3RD ROW: K 4, * YF, k 2 tog, k 6, rep from * to last 5 sts., YF, k 2 tog, k 3.

4TH & ALT ROWS: P.

5TH ROW: K 2, * k 2 tog, YF, k 1, YF, sl 1, k 1,psso, k 3, rep from * to last 7 sts, k 2 tog, YF, k 1, YF, sl 1, k 1, psso, k 2.

7TH ROW: K 1, * k 2 tog, YF, k 3, YF, sl 1, k 1, psso, k 1, rep from * to end.

9TH ROW: K 2 tog, YF, k 5, * YF, sl 1, k 2 tog, psso, YF, k 5, rep from * to last 2 sts., YF, sl 1, k 1, psso.

10TH ROW: P. *

Rep from ** to ** twice.

Work 6 rows st st.

NEXT ROW: Rep 9th row.

Work 7 rows st st.

Last 8 rows form all-over patt.

Keep all-over patt, correct, dec at each end of next & foll 8th rows until 85 (93) sts rem.

Inc. at each end of foll 16th rows twice-89 ( 97) sts.

Cont, until work meas 33” from beg (meas at centre), end with P row.

SHAPE ARMHOLES:
Cast off 5 (6) sts at beg of next 2 rows, then dec at each end of next & alt rows until 67 (71) sts rem. ***

Work 37 rows.

SHAPE SHOULDERS:
Cast off 9 sts at beg of next 2 rows, then 8 (9) sts at beg of foll 2 rows.

Leave rem 33 (35) sts on holder.

FRONT:
Work as back to ***.

Work 9 (7) rows.

SHAPE NECK:
NEXT ROW: Patt 25 (27), turn.

Cont, on these 25 (27) sts, dec. at neck edge in alt rows until 17 (18) sts rem.

Work 11 rows.

SHAPE SHOULDER:
Cast off 9 sts at beg of next row.

Work 1 row. Cast off.

Leave next 17 sts on holder, join yam & work other side to corres.

SLEEVES:
Use #8 needles, cast on 65 (73) sts & work 2 rows st st.

Work from ** to ** of back twice, then work 6 rows st st.

Work in all-over patt, as back, dec at each end of next & foll 6th (4th) rows until 55 ( 59) sts rem.

Work 15 rows.

Inc at each end of next & foll 8th rows until there are 65 ( 69) sts.

Cont, until work meas 16” from beg (meas at centre).

SHAPE TOP:
Cast off 3 sts at beg of next 2 rows.

Dec at each end of next & alt rows until 29 (33) sts rem, then in every row until 19 sts rem. Cast off.

NECKBAND:
Use back st. join shoulder seams.

RS facing, use #10 needles, k up 90 (94) sts evenly around neck, incl sts from holders.

K 3 rnds.

NEXT RND: * YF, k 2 tog, rep from * to end.

K 3 rnds. Cast off loosely.

FINISHING:
With dry cloth & cool iron, press lightly.

Using back st, join side & sleeve seams, then sew in sleeves.

Fold neckband in half & sl st on WS, & leave an opening for elastic.

Thread elastic thru & join opening.

Steam seams.

FRINGE:
Wind yarn around piece of cardboard 2” wide for sleeves, or 3” wide for lower edge & cut along 1 side.

WS facing, using crochet hook & 2 strands of yarn, fold yarn in half & draw lp thru cast-on st.

Pull ends thru lp & draw up tightly.

Rep in alt rnds around lower edge of dress & sleeves.
