Bear Brand or Fleisher’s Orlon Wintuk, 2-oz skeins, 14 [16] skeins
Crochet hook size H – 6 or size you require to obtain gauge.

GAUGE:
10 sts = 3”

1ST ROW: Work 1 sc in 2nd st from hk &
in each st to end of ch; 74 [78] sc.
2ND ROW: RIGHT SIDE – Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each st.
Rep last row until 87 rows – about 22” from
beg. Mark for underarm.
ARMHOLES:
1ST ROW: Ch 1, turn, 1 sl st in each of 1st 4 sts, work sc to within 4 sc of end; 66 [70] sc.
1ST ROW: Ch 1, turn, 1 sl st in each of 1st 4 sts, work sc to within 4 sc of end; 66 [70] sc.
2ND ROW: Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in 1st sc, draw
up lp in each of next 2 sts, yo & thru all lps – a dec --, work to within 3
sts of end, dec 1 st as before, 1 sc in last st.
Rep dec each side every 2nd row 6
times; 52 [56] sts.
Work even until about 8” [8 ½”] above underam
marker.
SHOULDERS:
1ST ROW: Ch 1, turn, sl st over 1st 6 [7] sts, finish row.
1ST ROW: Ch 1, turn, sl st over 1st 6 [7] sts, finish row.
2ND ROW: Ch 1, turn, sl st over 6 [7] sts, finish row,
1 sl st in next st.
3RD ROW: Ch 1, turn, sk sl st, sl st over 6 [7] sts,
finish row, end 1 sl st in next sl st of last row.
4TH ROW: Same as 3rd row.
Work as for 3rd row twice more,
working sl st over 5 sts instead of 6[7] sts.
Fasten off – 18 sts for back of neck.
LEFT FRONT:
Ch 46 [50].
Work as for back on 45 [49] sts until same
length as back to underarm, end on wrong side.
Keeping front edge even, shape armhole as for
right side of back; 34 [38] sc.
Work 6” [6 ½”] above underam marker, end on
wrong wide.
NECK & SHOULDER SHAPING:
1ST ROW: Work 27 [30] sc, 1 sl st in next st.
1ST ROW: Work 27 [30] sc, 1 sl st in next st.
2ND ROW: Ch 1, turn, sk sl st, 1 sl st in each of next
5 [6] sc, finish row; 22 [24] sc.
Keeping armhole edge even, dec 1 st at neck
edge every row 5 times; 17 [19] sc.
Work 1 row even, end at armhole edge.
Shape shoulder as on right half of back.
RIGHT FRONT:
Work to corres to left front until 10” [10 ½’] from lower edge, end on
wrong side at front edge.
BUTTONHOLE ROW:
Work 2 sc, ch 2, sk 3 sts for buttonhole, finish row.
Complete to corres to left front, rep
buttonholes every 22nd row 3 times.
SLEEVES:
Ch 39 [41].
Work as for back on 38 [40] sc for 7 [5] rows.
INC ROW:
RIGHT SIDE – Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in 1st st, 2 sc in next st,
work to within 2 sts of end, 2 sc in next st, 1 sc in last st; 40 [42] sc.
Rep inc row every 2” 4 [5] times; 48 [52] sc.
Work even until sleeve meas 12” from beg.
Leave off 4 sts each side on next row.
Dec 1 st each side every 2nd row 4
times; every 4th row twice; every 2nd row twice.
Work 1 row even; then dec 1 st each side every
row 4 [6] times’ 16 sts. Fasten off.
COLLAR:
Ch 61 [63] firmly.
Work patt for 10”, end on wrong side.
Work 1 more row sc, working firmly. Fasten off.
FINISHING:
Sew seams.
Sew in sleeves with sleeve seam at center
underarm.
Leaving 6 sts free at each front edge, sew
foundation ch & last row of sc of collar to neck edge.
Leave side edges open for scarf.
CROCHET BORDER:
From right side, beg at end of collar on left neck edge, work 1 sc in
each st to corner, 2 sc in corner, cont sc down left front edge, sk about every
6th row to keep an even edge, 2 sc in corner, cont on to lower edge,
working 1 sc in each st, 2 sc in corner, work up right front & on neck edge
to corres. Fasten off.
2ND ROW: From right side, work 1 sl st loosely in each
st of 1st row, inserting hk in same st as sc was worked in. Fasten off.
Work 2 rows of border on lower edge of each
sleeve & on open edges of collar.
POCKETS:
Ch 21.
Work 5 rows of patt, end on wrong side. Fasten off.
From right side, work 2 rows of border on 3
sides of pocket, leaving foundation ch free.
Make 2.
Sew pockets on coat as shown in photo.
FINALLY, draw scarf thru collar as attractive
accessory.
