Vintage 1950 Easy Two-Toned Jacket #964

Worked up & down in single crochet, this dream of a jacket is quick to work in 3-ply fingering yarn & will team well with flannel or wool for a costume look.

SIZES:
Directions are for size 12.  Changes for sizes 14 & 16 are given in brackets.

MATERIALS:
Botany Brand Terratones, 3 [3-4] (2-oz) skeins color A [main color], for all sizes:  2 skeins color B [contrasting color]
Steel crochet hook #4
Open zipper
2 yds ½” rayon seam binding

GAUGE:
6 sts = 1”
8 rows = 1”

MEASUREMENTS:
Size 12 [30] – Bust 30”; Waist 25”
Size 14 [32] -  Bust 32”; Waist 26 ½”
Size 16 [34] -  Bust 34”; Waist 28”

BACK: 
Starting at side edge with A, ch 91 [94-97] sts.

Sc in 2nd ch from hk & in each of next 29 [30-31]ch, sl st in each of next 20 ch [waistband], sc in each of rem 40 [42-44] ch.  Ch 1, turn.

WORK IN BACK LOOP OF EACH ST THROUGHOUT.

Work sc over each sc & sl st over each sl st of prev row.  Ch 1, turn.

Cont in this manner, working 4 rows in A & 2 rows in B for patt.

Work even in patt for ½”.

SHAPE ARMHOLES: 
Inc 1 st at armhole edge every other row, 4 times.

Ch 40 [43-46] sts at armhole edge.  Work across in patt on all sts.

SHAPE SHOULDER: 
On next row, inc 1 st at shoulder edge & rep this inc every 6th row until shoulder meas 4 ¼” [4 ½”-4 ¾”] across.

Work even until piece meas 8” [8 ½”-9”] from beg of underarm edge.

Place marker to denote half of back.

Cont to work other half of back to corres, reversing shaping [dec instead of inc].

FRONT: 
Work same as for back until shoulder is completed, ending at bottom edge.

SHAPE NECK: 
Work across in patt to within last 10 sts at shoulder.  Ch 1, turn.

Work back.

Dec 1 st at neck edge every other row, 4 times.

Work even until front meas 8” [8 ½”-9”] from beg of underarm edge, ending with color A.

Work other front to corres, reversing shaping.

SLEEVES: 
With A, ch 101 [104-107] sts.

Sc in 2nd ch from hk & in each of next 79 [82-85] sts, sl st in each of rem 20 sts for cuff.

Work even in patt for ½”.

Inc 1 st at top edge every other row until piece meas 6” [6 ½”-7”] from underarm edge.

Work even in patt for 1”.

Place marker to denote half of sleeve.

Cont to work other half to corres, reversing shaping [dec instead of inc].

FINISHING: 
Sew side, shoulder & sleeve seams.

Sew sleeves in place.

Work 1 row of sc in color B around neck & front opening.

Sew zipper in place.

For firm edges, sew ½” binding around neck & lower edge of jacket.

When using wool yarn, block.
