Vogue 1950’s Ridged Pattern Pullover #340

Tremendous fashion news in this sweater with a deep rolled collar.

SIZES:
Instructions are for a 32” bust. 
Changes for 34”, 36” & 38” sizes are given in brackets.

MATERIALS: 
14 [15, 16, 17] oz of Listers Lavenda double knitting
1 Pair each #10 & #7 Knitting Needles

MEASUREMENTS:
To fit a 32” [34”, 36”, 38”] bust.
Length at centre-back:  23” [23 ½”, 24”, 24 ¾”}

GAUGE: 
6 sts & 6 rows = 2” over st 2

STITCHES:
[1]  Welt & collar are in k 1, p 1 rib.

[2]  Main part is worked as follows: 
1st row [right side]:  P 4, * miss next st & k into 2nd st on left-hand needle, k the missed st, sl both sts off needle, p 4, rep from * to end.

2nd row:  K 4, * p 2, k 4, rep from * to end.  Rep these 2 rows.

BACK: 
With #10 needles cast on 88 [94, 100, 106]. 

Work 3 ½” in st 1. 

Change to #7 needles & st 2.  Work 4 rows. 

Inc 1 each end of next & every 6th row until there are 100 [106, 112, 118] sts. 

Work 10 [12, 14, 16] rows.

BEGIN SLEEVES: 
Inc 1 each end of next 5 rows. 

Cast on 7 at beg of next 10 rows & 9 at beg of following 2 rows.  198 [204, 210, 216] sts. 

Work until straight sleeve edges measure 5” [5 ¼”, 5 ½”, 6”].

SHAPE UPPER SLEEVES & SHOULDERS: 
Cast off at beg of next & following rows 7 sts 20 times & 6 [7, 8, 9] sts 4 times. 

Cast off rem 34 [36, 38, 40] sts for neck.

FRONT: 
With #10 needles cast on 88 [94, 100, 106]. 

Work 3 ½” in st 1. 

Change to #7 needles & st 2.  Work 4 rows. 

Inc 1 each end of next & every 6th row until there are 96 [102, 108, 114] sts, end with 1st patt row.

DIVIDE FOR NECK: 
Next row:  Work 60 [63, 66, 69], turn. 

Sl rem 36 [39, 42, 45] sts on holder for left side.  Finish right side first.

1st row [right side]:  * K 1, p 1, [k 1, p 1] into next st, rep from * 7 times more [32 sts on right-hand needle], work in patt across rem 36 [39, 42, 45] sts.

2nd row:  Work 36 [39, 42, 45], turn.  Sl centre 32 sts on holder for collar. 

Work 2 rows.

** 3rd row:  Work to last st, work twice into last st. 

Work 5 rows.

9th row:  Like 3rd row.  38 [41, 44, 47] sts. 

Work 1 row.

11th row:  Work 2 tog, work to end. 

Work 8 [10, 12, 14] rows.

BEGIN SLEEVE: 
1st row:  Work twice into 1st st, work to last 2 sts, work 2 tog. 

Dec 1 at neck edge every 14th [14th, 12th, 12th] row 3 [4, 5, 6] times more & at same time inc 1 at side edge every row 4 times more, then cast on at same edge every alternate row 7 sts 5 times & 9 once.

When straight sleeve edge measures same as those of back,
SHAPE UPPER SLEEVE & SHOULDER.
Cast off at sleeve edge every alternate row 7 sts 10 times & 6 [7, 8, 9] twice. 

Join wool to sts for left side, work 5 rows, then finish as other side from **, reversing shaping.

FINISH COLLAR: 
With wrong side of work towards you sl 32 sts from holder on to #10 needle. 

Work in st 1.  Work 10” [10 ¼”, 10 ½”, 11”], end with row on wrong side.

INC FOR TURN-BACK SECTION: 
1st row:  Rib 2, [k 1, p 1] into each of next 2 sts, rib  to end. 

Work 1 row.

3rd row:  Rib 4, [k 1, p 1] into each of next 2 sts, rib to end. 

Work 1 row.

5th row:  Rib 6, [k 1, p 1] into each of next 2 sts, rib to end.  38 sts. 

Work until collar measures 26 ¼” [27”, 27 ¾”, 28 ½”], end with row on wrong side.

DEC FOR TURN-BACK SECTION. 
1st row:  Rib 6, k 2 tog, p 2 tog, rib to end. 

Work 1 row.

3rd row:  Rib 4, k 2 tog, p 2 tog, rib to end. 

Work 1 row.

5th row:  Rib 2, k 2 tog, p 2 tog, rib to end. 

Work 10” [10 ¼”, 10 ½”, 11”].  Cast off.

CUFFS: 
Sew upper sleeve & shoulder seams. 

With right side of work towards you & #10 needles k up 68 [72, 76, 80] sts along sleeve edge. 

Work 1” in st 1.  Cast off in rib.

FINISHING: 
Sew side & sleeve seams. 

Sew collar to neck with turn-back sections directly opposite each other. 

Sl-st end of collar to wrong side at centre-front. 

Press.
