Quick & easy to crochet this delightful purse of rich brown corde threaded with lush brown velvet ribbon…a fashionable wardrobe favorite!

Materials:
Hiawatha Super Corde Art #38, 2 tubes
Hiawatha Bag Lining #6839
Hiawatha Plastic Tote Handles #6791
#1 Steel Crochet Hook
4 1/2 yds Velvet Ribbon 1” wide

GAUGE:  
6 sc = 1”;      1 cross st rnd = 1”

BAG:  BOTTOM:  
Ch 34 to meas 5 ½”.

1ST RND:  5 Sc in 2nd ch from hk, sc in each of next 31 ch, 5 sc in end ch, cont around work sc in each of next 31 ch [72 sc].

2ND RND:  [2 Sc in next st, sc in next st] twice; 2 sc in next st, sc in each st to 5 end sts, [2 sc in next st, sc in next st] twice; 2 sc in next st, sc in each st to end of rnd [6 incs].

3RD RND:  Inc 3 sts around curve at each end [not directly over prev incs].

Rep 3rd rnd until there are 120 sts.  Work even, if necessary, to fit bottom of lining, end at center of 1 short end.  Sl st in next st.  Thru back lps only, sc in each st.  Sl st in next st.

SIDES:  PATTERN: 
1ST RND:  Ch 4, sk 1 st, thru both lps work trc in next st, ch 5, trc in top of prev trc --starting cross st made-- * yo 4 times, insert hk in next st & draw lp thru, [over & thru 2 lps] twice; yo twice, sk 1 st, draw up lp in next st, [over & thru 2 lps] 6 times; ch 1, trc in center of cross st.  Rep from * around [40 cross sts].  Sl st in 4th st of ch-5.

2ND RND:  * 2 Sc in next sp, sk next trc, sc bet cross sts.  Rep from * around [120 sc].

3RD & 4TH RNDS:  Sc in each st.  Sl st in 1st sc.

Rep from 1st rnd until there are 6 cross st rnds, end with 2nd rnd.

LAST RND:  Sl st in each st.  End off.

FINISHING: 
Cut ¾ yd lengths of ribbon & weave thru cross st rnds as shown.

Sew ends of each ribbon.

Sew handles to lining.

Insert lining in crocheted piece & sew.

NOTE: 
If purse lining is not available, you can create your own with lining material & heavy cardboard [or plastic].

Make paper patt for each crocheted piece & lay aside to be used later.

Cut lining according to paper patts & sew tog. 

Shirr lining bag form to correspond with crocheted bag.

Insert finished lining in bag. 

IMPORTANT: 
Cardboard or lightweight plastic may be inserted between bag & lining to give shape of bag extra support.
