clever woman very quickly & easily will crochet this exquisite opera bag in
a delightful floral medallion pattern…which will become a personal favorite to

10, join in ring & in ring work 16 sc.
2ND
RND: 1 Sc in 1st st of prev rnd, picked
up on double thread. Ch 5, 1 tr each in
next 3 sc, ch 5, 1 sc in next st. Rep
from * around ring, 4 shells in all, & fasten off.
When all medallions have been made, join them as
follows:
Make
1 tr in center tr at one side of one of medallions, ch 5, 1 tr in same st, ch
7, make 2 tr with 5 ch bet in center st of next side of medallion, & rep
around, end rnd with 7 chs caught to 1st tr of rnd.
2ND
RND: Sl st to center of sp bet 1st 2 trs
of prev rnd. Ch 8, 1 dc in same sp, ch
2, turn & make 1 tr in center st of 1 of shells of 2nd medallion, turn
& make 1 dc in 1st st of ch around 1st medallion, ch 2, sk 2 ch, 1 dc in
next, ch 2, sk 2 ch, 1 dc in next, turn & make 1 tr in center of 2nd shell
of 2nd medallion, turn, 1 dc in sp bet tr of 1st medallion, ch 5, 1 dc in same
sp.
Ch
2, turn, 1 tr in center of 1st shell of 3rd medallion, turn, 1 dc in 1st ch
along 1st medallion, ch 2, sk 2 ch, 1 dc in next, ch 2, sk 2, 1 dc in next,
turn & make 1 tr in center of 2nd shell of 3rd medallion, ch 2, 1 dc bet tr
of 1st medallion.
Cont
work along 3rd medallion. Turn, ch 5, 1
tr where last tr was worked, ch 7, 2 tr with 5 ch bet in center of next shell
of 3rd medallion, ch 7, tr & ch in next shell, ch 7, 1 tr in center of next
shell (already worked into), ch 2, 1 sc in 5-ch lp below, ch 2, 1 tr in center
of 1st shell of 2nd medallion (already worked into) ch 7, 2 tr with 5 ch bet in
next shell, ch 7, 2 tr with 5 ch in next shell, ch 7, tr in center of next
shell, ch 2, catch to dc of 1st medallion, turn, ch 3. catch in center of ch lp
of 1st medallion, ch 2, 1 dc in sp before catching to 1st medallion, work
around as instructed for 1st medallion, catching to 4th medallion on 1st 2 corners,
& to 5th medallion also on 2nd corner.
Catch
to 2nd corner of 5th medallion when crossing from 3rd to 2nd medallion, &
there omit chs bet dc.
Work
row after row in this way. always catching in extra medallions, until there are
4 medallions in final row.
Lay
this piece of work aside & make another piece like it for other side of
point of bag.
Then
work joining rows round & round, always, catching in new medallions, until
all medallions have been joined.
Finish top of bag with picot rnd, as follows :
Make
1 sc in sp at one of points. Ch 5, catch
in 1st ch made for picot, rep from beg until 4 sc & 3 picots have been made
in same sp, work 1 sc & 1 picot in each sp to next point, & rep from
beg around top of bag. Join & fasten
off.
Work
unfinished side edges of medallions at bottom of the bag, then overhand shut.
The drop ornaments at bottom of bag are made as
follows :
Ch
2 & work 5 sc in 1st ch made.
Work
round & round, inc 5 times in each rnd, & having wrong side of work
out. until there are 20 sts in rnd.
Work
2 rnds without inc, then narrow 5 times in each rnd, stuffing drop with cotton
before working final rnd.
Ch
10, catch in bottom point of bag, ch 10, catch to drop & fasten off.
Make
3 drops for each side in same way, spacing them evenly apart.
Take
10 plastic rings, ½” diameter, cover them with sc & sew them to bag on line
with center of 2nd row of medallions from top, spacing them evenly apart.
Then crochet the cords as follows
Ch
7 & join in ring, & in ring work 7 sc.
On
these 7 sc work rnd & rnd, picking up on back thread, until the cord is 32”
long.
Run
it thru ring, & join ends, knot cord to conceal joining.
Make
2nd cord exactly like 1st, & line bag with silk.
