Vintage Helga's Classic Tote  #626

Quick & easy to knit this delightful tote bag of rich Persian curl…a fashionable wardrobe favorite!

Materials:
Hiawatha Persian Curl Art #31, 3 skeins
Hiawatha Bag Lining #6984
#10 Knitting Needles

GAUGE: 
2 sts = 1”;      3 rows = 1”

ABBREVIATIONS:                                           
BET      =          Between                                   
DEC     =          Decrease
INC      =          Increase                                    
K          =          Knit
LP        =          Loop                                         
MEAS   =          Measure
P          =          Purl                                          
PATT    =          Pattern
REM     =          Remain                                     
REP     =          Repeat
SK        =          Skip/Skipped                             
SP        =          Space
ST        =          Stitch                                        
TOG     =          Together


BAG:  SIDE: 
Cast on 31 sts loosely for top of 1 side.

1ST ROW:  K 1, * p 1, k 1.  Rep from * to end.

Rep 1st row, forming seed st patt, until side is 9” high.

BOTTOM: 
Bind off 4 sts at beg of each of next 2 rows [once each side].

Work patt on 23 sts for 3”.

Cast on 4 sts at end of each of next 2 rows [31 sts].

2ND SIDE:  Work same number of rows as on 1st side. 

Bind off loosely in patt.

FINISHING: 
Sew side edges of bag tog, row for row.

Sew cast-on & bound-off sts at bottom to ends of rows of bottom.

Insert lining & sew.

Attach handles.

NOTE: 
If purse lining is not available, you can create your own with lining material & heavy cardboard [or plastic].

Make paper patt for each knit piece & lay aside to be used later.

Cut lining according to paper patts & sew tog. 

Shirr lining bag form to correspond with knit bag.

Insert finished lining in bag. 

IMPORTANT: 
Cardboard or lightweight plastic may be inserted between bag & lining to give shape of bag extra support.
