Vintage Miss Mexico Doll #565

Quick & easy to crochet this lovely doll…Latina charm with a matching hat, umbrella, & panties…a beautiful favorite to keep or gift to that special person!

MATERIALS: 

J & P Coats Knit-Cro-Sheen, 1 ball each of white & red

#5 Steel Crochet Hook                               

1 Doll, 8” with 4 ½” chest

Pipe Cleaner                                               

Narrow Velvet Ribbon 3/8”

ABBREVIATIONS:

CH      =          Chain

SKIRT: 

Start at waist with red, ch 29 loosely to reach around doll’s waist.

1^ST ROW:  Sc in 2^nd ch from hk, * ch 1, sc in next ch.  Rep from * across.  Ch 1, turn.

2^ND ROW:  Sl st in first sp, ch 5, make 3 loose tr [meas ¾”] in same sp, * ch 1, 4 loose tr in next sp.  Rep from * across.  Ch 5, turn.

NOW WORK IN RNDS AS FOLLOWS: 

1^ST RND:  Sk first tr, make loose tr in next 3 tr, * ch 1, loose tr in next 4 tr.  Rep from * around, end with ch 1.  Join with sl st to top of turning ch.

2^ND, 3^RD & 4^TH RNDS:  Work, as for last rnd, make ch 2 bet tr groups on 2^nd & 3^rd rnds & ch 4 bet groups on 4^th rnd. 

Break off at end of 4^th rnd.

5^TH RND:  Attach white bet 2^nd & 3^rd tr of any tr-group on last rnd, sc in same place, *  ch 3, in next sp make [loose tr, ch 2] 6 times & loose tr; ch 3, sc bet 2^nd & 3^rd tr of next group.  Rep from * around.  Join & break off.

6^TH RND:  Attach red to any sp, sc in same sp, * ch 3, sc in next sp.  Rep from * around.  Join.

7^TH RND:  Sl st in next lp, ch 8, * loose tr in next lp, ch 3.  Rep from * around.  Join to 5^th ch of ch-8.  Break off.

8^TH RND:  Attach white to any sp & work as for 6^th rnd.  Break off.

BODICE: 

Attach white to first ch on opposite side of starting ch of Skirt.

1^ST ROW:  Ch 3, dc in each ch across.  Ch 3, turn.

2^ND ROW:  Sk first dc, dc in next 9 dc, 2 dc in next dc, dc in next 6 dc, 2 dc in next dc, dc in each rem dc, dc in top of turning ch.  Ch 3, turn.

3^RD ROW:  Sk first dc, dc in each dc across & in top of turning ch.  Break off.

RUFFLE: 

1^ST ROW:  Attach white to 4^th dc on last row, ch 14, sk next 8 dc, sc in next 5 dc, ch 14, sk next 8 dc, sl st in next dc.  Ch 1, turn.

2^ND ROW:  Work across chs & front of Bodice, sc in first st, * ch 3, sk next st, in next st make [loose tr, ch 3] 5 times; sk next st, sc in next st.  Rep from * across.  Break off.

3^RD ROW:  Attach red to first sp, sc in same sp, * ch 3, sc in next sp.  Rep from * across.  Break off.

UMBRELLA: 

Start at bottom with white, ch 6.  Join with sl st to form ring.

1^ST RND:  Ch 3, 9 dc in ring.  Join.

2^ND & 3^RD RNDS:  Ch 3, dc in each dc around.  Join.

4^TH RND:  Ch 3, dc in same place as sl st, 2 dc in each dc around.  Join.

5^TH RND:  Sc in same place as sl st, * ch 3, sc in next dc.  Rep from * around, end with ch 1, dc in first sc [20 lps].

6^TH RND:  * Ch 3, sc in next lp.  Rep from * around.  Join.

7^TH RND:  Work in patt, inc 10 lps evenly around.

8^TH THRU 11 RNDS:  Rep last 2 rnds 2 more times [60 lps].

12^TH RND:  Rep 6^th rnd.

13^TH RND:  * Ch 1, picot, ch 1, sc in next lp.  Rep from * around.  Join & break off.

Starch umbrella lightly & press.

Slip umbrella over pipe cleaner & sew securely into place, catching picots to form ribs. 

Loop one end of pipe cleaner to form handle.

HAT: 

Start at crown with white, ch 4.  1^ST RND:  13 Dc in 4^th ch from hk.  Join.

2^ND RND:  Ch 3, * 2 dc in next dc, dc in next dc.  Rep from * around.  Join.

3^RD RND:  Ch 3, dc in same place as sl st, * dc in next 3 dc, 2 dc in next dc.  Rep from * around.  Join.

4^TH RND:  Ch 3, dc in each dc around.  Join & break off.

5^TH RND:  Attach red to same place as sl st, sc in same place, sc in each dc around.  Join & break off.

6^TH RND:  Attach white to first sc, ch 3, dc in same sc, 2 dc in each sc around.  Join.

7^TH & 8^TH RNDS:  Rep 4^th rnd.  Break off at end of 8^th rnd.

9^TH RND:  Rep 5^th rnd.

CHIN STRAP:  [MAKE 2]: 

Attach red to side of hat & make ch 3” long.  Break off. 

Make small bow of 3/8” red ribbon.

Sew small bunch of silk flowers & bow to hat.

Sew 2 snap fasteners to back opening on bodice.

Tie narrow ribbon around waist in bow.

PANTIES: 

With white & #6 hk, ch 38 loosely to fit around waistline, dc in 4^th st from hk, 1 dc in each rem st of ch, ch 3, turn.

2^ND ROW:  1 Dc in each of next 3 dc, 2 dc in next dc, * 1 dc in each of next 5 dc, 2 dc in next dc, rep from * across row, end with 1 dc in last st, join in 3^rd st of 1^st ch 3.

3^RD & 4^TH ROWS:  Ch 3 [counts as 1 dc], 1 dc in each dc, join in 3^rd st of ch.

5^TH ROW:  Ch 3, 1 dc in each of next 10 dc, sk 21 dc, 1 dc in each of next 10 dc, join.

6^TH ROW:  * Ch 3, sc in next st, rep from * all around, cut thread. 

Attach thread at crotch & finish other leg in same manner. 

Work row of sc around top of panties, working loosely, then work row of sc around side opening, cut thread. 

Tie with ribbon on side.

If desired, make an underskirt of crinoline [net] & taffeta.
