1952 Miss South Carolina Doll #609

A clever woman very quickly & easily will create this exquisite doll in a delightful gown, matching hat, petticoat & panties…which will become a personal favorite to keep or gift to that special person!


MATERIALS:
J & P COATS KNIT-CRO-SHEEN, Art #A 64, 1 ball each of Yellow & Flamingo, &
CLARKS ONT BEST SIX CORD MERCERIZED CROCHET, Art #B4, Size 30, 1 ball of White.
#7 & #10 Steel Crochet Hooks
½ yd Black Velvet Ribbon, ¼“inch wide
3 Small Snap Fasteners
Hook & Eye
Bias Binding
Doll 8” tall, waist 5”

ABBREVIATIONS:

DRESS: 
Skirt
Start at long side of back with Yellow & #7 hk, ch 43.

1st row:  Sl st in 2nd ch from hk & in next ch, sc in next ch, hdc in next 2 ch, dc in next 8 ch, tr in next 15 ch, dtr in next 14 ch.  Ch 5, turn.

2nd row:  Sk 1st dtr, dtr in each dtr, tr in each tr, dc in each dc, hdc in each hdc, sc in sc, sl st in each sl st.  Ch 1, turn.

3rd row:  Sl st in each sl st, sc in sc, hdc in each hdc, dc in each dc, tr in each tr, dtr in each dtr, dtr in top of turning ch.  Ch 5, turn.

4th thru 18th rows:  Rep 2nd & 3rd rows alternately, end with 2nd row.  Break off at end of 18th row.

19th, 20th & 21st rows:  Attach Flamingo & work in patt. Break off at end of 21st row.

22nd thru 26th rows:  Attach Yellow & work in patt.  Break off at end of 26th row.

27th, 28th & 29th rows:  Attach Flamingo & work in patt.  Break off at end of 29th row. 

Attach Yellow & work in patt for 18 more rows.  Break off at end of last row. 

Sew up back seam, leave 1” opening at top.

BODICE: 
1st row:  Attach Yellow to back opening & make 36 sc evenly across top of Skirt.  Ch 3, turn.

2nd row:  Sk 1st sc, dc in each sc across.  Ch 3, turn.

3rd row:  Sk 1st dc, dc in each dc across, dc in top of turning ch.  Ch 3, turn.

4th row:  Sk 1st dc, dc in next 8 dc.  Ch 3, turn (back).

5th & 6th rows:  Sk 1st dc, dc in next 4 dc.  Break off. 

Attach thread to other end of last complete row & work other side of back same way.

FRONT: 
1st row:  Attach thread to 1st free dc on last complete row, ch 3, dc in each dc across.

2nd & 3rd rows:  Sk 1st dc, dc in each dc across. Ch 3, turn.

Shape Shoulder: 
Sk 1st dc, dc in next 4 dc.  Break off. 

Attach thread to other end of last row & complete other shoulder same way. 

Sew up shoulder seams.

SLEEVE:  (Make 2):
Start at top with White & #10 hk, ch 39.

1st row:  Sc in 2nd ch from hk, * draw lp on hk out to meas ⅜”, yo & draw lp thru, insert hk bet single & double lps & draw lp thru, yo & draw thru all lps on hk (knot st made), make another knot st, sk 3 ch, sc in next ch.  Rep from * across, make 2 knot sts & turn.

2nd & 3rd rows:  Sc in 1st free knot of prev row, * make 2 knot sts, sc in next free knot.  Rep from * across, make 2 knot sts & turn.  Break off at end of 3rd row.

4th row:  With # 7 hk, attach Flamingo to 1st free knot, sc in same place, * ch 2, sc in next free knot.  Rep from * across.  Ch 3, turn.

5th row:  Sk 1st sc, dc in each ch & in each sc across.  Break off.

6th row:  With #10 hk, attach White to 1st dc, sc in same place, * make 2 knot sts, sk 2 dc, sc in next dc.  Rep from * across, make 2 knot sts & turn.

7th & 8th rows:  Rep 2nd & 3rd rows. 

Sew up sleeve seam. 

Sew in sleeves.

COLLAR: 
1st row:  Attach White to neck & sc closely across.  Ch 1, turn.

2nd row:  Sc in 1st sc, * ch 5, sc in next sc.  Rep from * across.  Break off. 

Attach Yellow to back opening & sc closely across.  Break off. 

Sew snap fasteners to back opening.

TRIM: 
Start at long side with Flamingo, make ch 6 ½” long. 

Sl st in 2nd ch from hk, sc in next ch, hdc in next ch, dc in next 3 ch, tr in each ch across, inc 8 tr evenly across to within last 6 ch, dc in next 3 ch, hdc in next ch, sc in next ch, sl st in next ch.  Break off. 

Sew in place at front of Dress.

HAT: 
Start at top with Flamingo, ch 2.

1st rnd:  8 Sc in 2nd ch from hk.  Join.

2nd rnd:  Ch 3, dc in same place as sl st, 2 dc in each sc around.  Join.

3rd rnd:  Sc in same place as sl st, * 2 sc in next dc, sc in next dc.  Rep from * around.  Join.

4th rnd:  Sc in back lp of each sc around.  Join.

5th rnd:  Sc in each sc around.  Join.

6th rnd:  Ch 3, dc in same place as sl st, 2 dc in back lp of each sc around.  Join.

7th rnd:  Ch 3, dc in same place as sl st, * dc in next 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc.  Rep from * around.  Join.

8th rnd:  Sc in each dc around.  Join & break off. 

With White & #10 hk, make ch slightly longer than outer edge of brim, sc in 2nd ch from hk, * make 2 knot sts, sc in next ch.  Rep from * across.  Break off. 

Sew around brim of hat.

BOW: 
With Yellow, ch 6.

1st row:  Dc in 4th ch from hk & in next 2 ch.  Ch 3, turn.

2nd, 3rd & 4th rows:  Sk 1st dc, dc in next 2 dc, dc in top of turning ch.  Ch 3, turn. 

Break off at end of 4th row. 
Sew at center to form bow. 
Sew to front of hat. 
Sew hat to left hand. 
Tie ribbon around hair.

FLOWER: 
Start at center with White & #10 hk, ch 5.  Join with sl st to form ring.

1st rnd:  (Ch 3, 2 dc in ring, ch 3, sl st in ring) 5 times.  Join & break off. 

Tie to right hand.

PETTICOAT: 
Cut strip of 6“ crinoline hemline binding 18” long. 

Gather across 1 long side to fit around doll's waist. 

Sew back seam, leave 1“ opening at top. 

Sew bias binding around top. 

Sew hook & eye at back. 

Turn up hem to correspond with length of skirt.

PANTIES: 
Start at waist make ch long enough to reach around widest part of doll.  Join, be careful not to twist.

1st thru 4th rnds:  Ch 3, dc in each st around.  Join.

For 11-inch dolls work 9 rnds (instead of 4 rnds). 

Ch 4 for crotch & sl st directly opposite.  Break off. 

Draw cord thru sts of 1st rnd.
