Vintage Dianne’s Crochet

A
clever woman quickly & very easily crochets this charming Purse in a
delightful pattern a season-spanning, wardrobe favorite!
MATERIALS:
Chadwick’s
Red Heart Knitting Worsted 1 oz, 5 balls
#5
Bone Crochet Hook
¼
yd Felt for lining

Ring Handles
2
Small Buttons
GAUGE:
Side: 4 ½ sc = 1”; 4 rows = 1”
ABBREVIATIONS:
BEG = Beginning
CH = Chain
LP = Loop
MEAS
= Measure
REP = Repeat
RND = Round
SC = Single
Crochet
SK = Skip
SL
ST = Slip Stitch
ST = Stitch
YO = Yarn
Over
BOTTOM:
Ch
45 to meas 8 ½”.
1ST
ROW: Sc in 2nd ch from hook
& in each ch across. Ch 1, turn.
2ND
THRU 12TH ROWS: Sc in each sc
across. Ch 1, turn.
SIDE:
1ST
RND: Make sc in each sc around all edges
of Bottom.
2ND
RND: Sc in back lp of each sc
around. Sl st in 1st sc. Rep 2nd rnd until side meas 7”. Break off.
TRIMMING:
With
top of bag, facing, attach yarn to 1st free lp on 4th rnd
of Side [counting from Bottom], * ch 5, [yo, insert hook in 4th ch
from hook & draw lp thru] 3 times; yo hook & draw thru all lps on hook;
sl st in next ch, sc in free lp of next 3 sc.
Rep from * around. Join &
break off.
Work
3 more rows of Trimming, spacing Trimming 4 rows apart.
BUTTON: [MAKE 2]:
1ST
RND: Ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch
from hook.
2ND
RND: Sc in each sc around. Break off.
FINISHING:
Using
crochet pieces as pattern, cut out lining from felt.
Line
bag with felt, inserting cardboard [heavy plastic] at bottom.
Fold
sides in at top, leaving 5” free at center of each side.
Insert
buttons in crocheted pieces & sew at each end of one side at top.
Make
two ch-9 lps opposite buttons.
Cover
three-quarters of each handle closely with sc.
Sew
handles in place.
