Quick & easy to
create, this classic tote handbag sweater will become a season-spanning favorite!
MATERIALS:

large spool Corde
OR
Interchangeable
with Soutache, Ribbonette or Straw
#5
bone Crochet Hook
Lining
Material
Zipper
GAUGE:
3
shells = 1”;
3
rows = 1 ¼”
BAG:
Start
at top, make ch approx 15” long [7 ch sts = 1”].
1ST
ROW: In 2nd ch from hook make
sc, dc & sc [shell is made]. * Sk 2
ch shell in next ch. Rep from * across,
until row measures 13”. Cut off rem
ch. Ch 1, turn.
2ND
ROW: Make shell in last sc of each shell
across. Ch 1, turn.
Rep
2nd row until piece measures 15”.
Fasten off.
GUSSET
[MAKE 2]:
Start
at narrow end, ch 14 & work as for 1st row of bag. Ch 1, turn.
Cont
working in patt as for bag, inc 1 shell at both ends of 3rd row
& every 5th row thereafter until piece measures 5” deep [to inc
shell at ends of row, make shell in both 1st & last sc of end
shells]. Fasten off.
BAND:
Ch
15 [10 measure approx 2”].
1ST
ROW: Sc in 2nd ch from hook
& in each rem ch across. Ch 1, turn.
2ND
ROW: Pick up only back loop of each sc,
make sc in each st across. Ch 1, turn.
Rep
2nd row until piece measures 8 ½” long. Fasten off.
Make
another piece same as this.
Make
paper patt for each crocheted piece & lay aside to be used later.
HANDLE:
Make
ch 10” long.
1ST
ROW: Dc in 4th ch from hook
& in each ch across. Ch 3, turn.
2ND
ROW: Dc in each st across. Fasten off.
Double
this strip & sew together the 2 long sides.
Sew
ends tog & attach handle to zipper.
Sew
Gussets in place.
Shirr
top to measure 8 ½”.
Cut
lining according to paper patts & sew tog.
Shirr
lining bag form to correspond with crocheted bag.
Insert
finished lining in bag.
Sew
in zipper.
Note:
Cardboard or lightweight plastic may be inserted
between bag & lining to give shape of bag extra support.
