Vintage Beau Belle Hat & Basket Bag Set #1142

MATERIALS:
Dritz Luxury Belastraw #110, 1 Tube - Hat; 2 Tubes - Bag
Dritz Glitter Twist #143, 1 Tube - Hat; 2 Tubes - Bag
Dritz Basket Bag Bottom #261, 1 Piece each for Hat & Bag 
Dritz Metal Crochet Hook #2
1 Button 1⅛" in Diameter 
Lining Material & Crinoline

GAUGE:
6 sc = 1"

NOTE:
Hat & Bag with smart Basket Bag Bottoms for hat's crown & bag's bottom.

BAG:
With Belastraw, * insert hk thru straw basket ½" down from next point & make 3 sc in point.

Rep from * around have multiple of 4 sts around. Join with sl st in 1st sc.

1ST 2ND & 3RD RNDS: Ch 1, sc in same place as sl st, sc in each sc around. Join.

At end of 3rd rnd drop Belastraw, attach Glitter Twist.

4TH RND: Ch 1, * make long sc in next st 1 row down [to make long sc, insert hk in specified place & pull lp thru, yo & draw thru 1 lp, yo & draw thru 2 lps]. Make long sc in next st 2 rows down, long sc in next st 3 rows down, long sc in next st 2 rows down. Rep from * around. Join & end off Twist. Pick up Belastraw. 

5TH, 6TH, & 7TH RNDS: Ch 1, sc in same place as sl st, sc in each st around.

NEXT RNDS: Rep 1st to 7th rnds incl 5 more times.

NEXT RND: Work sl st loosely in each sc around. End off.
Line with lining material reinforced with crinoline.

BUTTONLOOP FLAP:
With Belastraw ch 38, sl st in 14th ch with hk. 

1ST RND: Ch 1, sc in same place as sl st, sc in 23 ch, 3 sc in last ch; then work along opposite side of starting chain make sc in 24 ch, sc in 6 ch of lp. 3 sc in next, sc in re­m 6 ch of lp. Mark last st of rnd.

2ND RND: * Sc in each sc to 1st sc of next 3-sc group, 3 sc in 1st sc [corner], sc in next sc, 3 sc in next sc [corner]. Rep from * once more, sc in each rem sc of rnd. 

3RD & 4TH RNDS: * Sc in each sc to center sc of next corner, 3 sc in center sc. Rep from * 3 more times; sc in each rem sc of rnd.

Drop Belastraw, attach Glitter Twist. 

5TH RND: Rep 4th rnd of Bag. 

6TH RND: Sc in each sc make 3 sc in each corner; then sl st loosely in each sc. End off.

HANDLE:
With Belastraw ch 86.

1ST RND: 3 Sc in 2nd ch from hk, sc in each ch, 3 sc in last ch, sc in each ch along opposite side of starting chain.

2ND TO 6TH RNDS INCL: Same as 2nd to 6th rnds incl of Buttonloop Flap.
BUTTON:

With Glitter ch 4. Join with sl st to form ring.

1ST RND: 7 Sc in ring.

2ND RND: 2 Sc in each sc [14 sc).

3RD RND: * Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next. Rep from * around (21 sc].

4TH & 5TH RNDS: Sc in each sc. Sl button inside this piece.

6TH RND: * Sc in 2 sc, sk next sc. Rep from * until opening is closed. End off.

Fold top edge to form side gussets & tack.

Sew ends of Handle to gussets along top of 2nd row of long scs, count from top edge.

Sew Buttonloop Flap in place.

Sew on button.

HAT:
CROWN:
Work same as Bag until 6th rnd has been completed; then work sl st in each sc around.

BRIM:
Work in scs [behind sl sts] make * sc in 2 sc, 2 sc in next. Rep from * around have multiple of 4 sts around.

Now work 1st to 7th rnds incl of Bag.

NEXT RND: Rep 7th rnd once more.

NEXT RND: Sc in back lp of each sc around. Join.

NEXT RNDS: Work 2 rnds straight. End off.

Fold Brim under at ridge & whip in place.

“HOW-TO” INSTRUCTIONS:

1. MAKE TWISTED CORD:
Cut strands as directed.
Knot ends & put knotted end over a stationary hook.
Twist strands until they buckle; then double piece & sl other end over hook.
Twist in opposite direction & knot free ends to prevent raveling.
Draw cords in opposite directions thru beading. Tie & trim ends.

2. LINE FRAME BAGS:
1ST: Meas inside edge of 1 side of Metal Bag Frame; add 1”. This is width of lining.

2ND: Meas height of crocheted piece, incl ½ of bottom of bag [if there is one]; add 1”. This is length of lining.

3RD: Cut 4 pieces of lining material, follow above meas.

4TH: Cut 2 pieces of crinoline ½” shorter, but same width as lining pieces.

5TH:
 With right sides facing, sew 2 pieces of lining tog along 1 width & 2 height edges, allow ½” for seams.

Sew 2 crinoline pieces in same way.

Sl lining piece inside crinoline piece, turn lining over at top edge & tack [right side of lining is inside].

Sew 3 edges of rem 2 lining pieces. Turn right side out.

Sl crinoline piece inside this piece.

Turn top edge down bet other thicknesses & sew in place.

Top edge of lining should be same meas as inner edge of open frame.

3. LINE DRAWSTRING BAGS:
1ST: Meas ½ of top edge of crocheted bag. This is width of lining.

2ND & 3RD: Same as for Frame Bag.

4TH:  With right sides facing, sew 2 pieces of lining tog along 1 width & 2 height edges, allow ½” for seams.

Sew rem 2 pieces in same way. Turn right side out.

Sl 1st piece inside 2nd piece.

Turn both top edges to inside [bet both thicknesses] & overcast.
