Vintage 1970s Mod Halter Top #1250

SIZE:
Directions are for sizes 6, 8, 10, 12 & 14.

MATERIALS:
Knitting Worsted: Approx 10 – 12 oz, Assorted Colors
1 Crochet Hook #G
1 yd Round Elastic

GAUGE/TENSION:
4  STS = 1”

MEASUREMENTS:
Bust: 30 ½”; 31 ½”; 32 ½”; 34”; 36”

GENERAL DIRECTIONS:
Striped section is worked
VERTICALLY; band of motifs finishes UPPER edge.

WHEN CHANGING COLORS, work last DC or SC of 1 color until there are 2 lps on hk, drop strand to WRONG SIDE, pick up new color & finish st.

Cut & join colors as desired.

Work BODY in DC & SC rows, & WORK IN FRONT LP ONLY of each st to add texture to design.

BODY:
Beg at
SIDE edge, with any desired color, CH 41.

1ST ROW: SC in 2nd CH from hk & in each CH across = 40 SC. CHECK GAUGE; row should meas 10”. Work off last 2 lps with another color. Turn each row.

2ND ROW: CH 2, DC in front lp of each st across. Work off last 2 lps with another color.

3RD ROW: CH 2, DC in front lp of each st across.

4TH ROW: CH 1, SC in front lp of each st across. Work off last 2 lps with another color.

Cont in this manner until piece when slightly stretched, meas desired BUST meas. End off.

TOP MOTIFS: [MAKE 10]:
Beg at center, with any desired color, CH 4, sl st in 1st CH to form ring.

1ST RND: CH 3, 2 DC in ring, [CH 2, 3 DC in ring] 3 times, CH 2, sl st in top of CH 3. End off.

2ND RND: Join 2nd color in any sp, CH 3, 2 DC in same sp, CH 2, 3 DC in same sp, [CH 1, [3 DC, CH 2, 3 DC] in next sp] 3 times, CH 1, sl st in top of CH 3. End.

3RD RND: Join 3rd color in any corner CH-2 sp, CH 3, 2 DC in same sp, CH 2, 3 DC in same sp, [CH 1, 3 DC in next sp, CH 1, [3 DC, CH 2, 3 DC] in top] 3 times,3 DC in next  sp, CH 1, sl st in top of CH 3, End off.

FINISHING:
Weave foundation CH of
BODY to last row.

Weave sides of motifs tog, forming circle.

Sew to top edge of BODY.

Working over elastic, with any color, SC around TOP EDGE of motifs.

Try on top; adjust elastic to desired fit. FASTEN SECURELY.

LOWER BORDER:
With any color, from
RIGHT SIDE, sl st around lower edge, BE CAREFUL TO WORK LOOSELY; do not turn.

1ST RND:[RIGHT SIDE]: CH 3, DC in BACK LP of each st around. Join with sl st in top of CH 3.

2ND & 3RD RNDS: Rep 1st rnd. At end of 3rd rnd, turn.

4TH RND: With another color, WORK IN BOTH LPS, DC around. Join & turn.

5TH RND: With SAME COLOR used at UPPER EDGE, SC in each st around. End off.

FRONT MOTIFS:
2ND MOTIF:
Work same as 1st motif thru 2nd rnd.

3RD RND: With 3rd color, SC in each DC & CH sp around. SL st in 1st SC. End off.

4TH RND: With 1st color used, make lp on hk, work over SC into 2nd Rnd, work 3 DC in any corner, CH 2, 3 DC in same sp [CH 1, 3 DC in next sp, CH 1, [3DC, CH 2, 3 DC] in next corner sp] 3 times, CH 1, 3 DC in next sp, CH 1, sl st in top of 1st DC. End off.

5TH RND: Join color used on 2nd rnd in any CH-2 sp,  CH 3, 2 DC in same sp, CH 2, 3 dc in same sp, * [CH 1, 3 DC in next sp] twice, CH 1, [3 DC, CH 2, 3 DC] in next sp, rep from * twice, end [CH 1, 3 DC in next sp] twice.

6TH RND: Rep 3rd rnd.

3RD MOTIF: [MAKE 2]:
With color use on 1st rnd of 2nd motif, CH 3, sl st in 1st CH to form ring.

1ST RND: CH 3, 11 DC in ring. Join; end off.

4TH MOTIF:
Work same as 2nd Motif thru 3rd rnd. End off.

Join 2nd & 4th motifs on 1 corner.

Sew 3rd motif in ANGLE formed each side.

Sew 2nd motif cater-cornered to FRONT as shown in photo.

TIES: [MAKE 2]:
Make CH 10 “ long.

Attach to sides of 4th motif.
