Vintage 1960s Mod Laced-Up Sweater #1274
SIZE:
Small [6-8] & Medium [10-12]
Directions are for Small with changes for Medium in brackets.

MATERIALS:
Knitting Worsted, 4 oz Skeins:
2- Turquoise [MC]; 1 Each of Green [G], Yellow [Y] & Rose [R]
1 Crochet Hook #G

TENSION/GAUGE:
SC, CH 3 = 1”

MEASUREMENTS:
Body Bust = 30 ½” – 31 ½” [32 ½”-34”]
Finished Bust = 32” [34”]

SWEATER:
BODY:
Beg at lower edge of BACK & FRONTS, with MC, CH 61 [65] loosely.
1ST ROW: SC in 2nd CH from hk & in each CH across = 60 [64] SC. Turn.

2ND ROW: * CH 3, sk next SC, SC in next SC, rep from * across = 30 [32] CH-3 lps. Turn.

3RD ROW: * CH 3, SC in next lp, rep from * across. Turn.

Rep 3rd row for patt until piece meas 4” from start, DO NOT TURN.

JOIN RND: CH 3 [mark this lp for CENTER FRONT]; be careful not to twist work, SC in 1st CH-3 lp forming circle, * CH 3, SC in next CH-3 lp, rep from * around.

NEXT RND: CH 3, SC under CENTER FRONT lp, * CH 3, SC in next lp, rep from * around.

NEXT RND: Work in CH-3 lps around, end SC in CH-3 lp before CENTER FRONT lp. Turn.

DIVIDE FOR NECK:
* CH 3, SC in next CH-3 lp, rep from * to within center CH-3 lp = 29 [31] lps.

NEXT ROW: CH 2, SC in 1st lp, * CH 3, SC in next lp, rep from * across, end SC in last lp = 29 [31] lps. Turn.

Rep last row until piece meas 10” from start. Turn.

DIVIDE FOR UNDERARM:
LEFT FRONT:
CH 2, SC in 1st lp, [ CH 3, SC in next lp] 6 [7] times = 7 [8] lps. Turn.

SHAPE ARMHOLE:
Sl st to center of 1st CH-3 lp, * CH 3, SC in next lp, rep from * across = 6 [7] lps. Turn.

NEXT ROW: CH 2, SC in 1st CH-3 lp, work in patt = 6 [7] lps. Turn.

Reo last 2 rows twice = 4 [5] lps.

NEXT ROW: CH 2, SC in 1st sp, * CH 3, SC in next sp, rep from * across.

Rep last row until ARMHOLE meas 6” [6 ½”] above 1st row of ARMHOLE shaping. End off.

BACK:
Join MC in sp at left UNDERARM with last lp of FRONT, * CH 3, SC in next sp, rep from & 14 times = 15 lps. Turn.

NEXT ROW: Sl st to center of 1st CH-3 lp, * CH 3, SC in next lp, rep from * across = 14 lps. Turn.

Rep last row 3 [2] times = 11 [12] lps.

Work even until ARMHOLES meas 5” [5 ½”] above 1st row of ARMHOLE shaping.

SHAPE NECK & SHOULDERS:
Work 4 lps, turn.

Work 2 rows even. End off.

Sk 2 [3] ps on last long row for back of NECK, join MC in next lp, finish row = 4 lps.

Work 2 rows even. End off.

RIGHT FRONT:
Join MC in sp at right UNDERARM with last lp of BACK, * CH 3, SC in next sp, rep from * across = 7 [8] lps.

Work same as left FRONT, reverse shaping.

SLEEVES:
Beg at lower edge, with MC, CH 18 [20]. Join with sl st in 1st CH forming ring. Mark for beg of rnd.

1ST RND: CH 3, SC in next CH, * CH 3, sk next CH, SC in next CH, rep from * around = 9 [10] CH-3 lps.

2ND RND: * CH 3, SC in next lp, rep from * around until piece meas 5” from start.

NEXT RND [INC RND]: CH 3, SC in last CH-3 lp worked in, work in patt around = 1 lp inc.
Inc 1 lp every 5” twice = 12 [13] lps.

Work even until piece meas 17” from start. Turn.

SHAPE CAP:
NEXT ROW: CH 2, SC in next CH-3 lp, * CH 3, SC in next CH-3 lp, rep from * 9 [10] times = 11 [12] lps. Turn.

NEXT ROW: CH 2, SC in next CH-3 lp, * CH 3, SC in next CH-3 lp, rep from * to within last CH-2 lp = 10 [11] lps. Turn.

Rep last row 6 [7] times = 4 lps. End off.

FINISHING:
Weave SHOULDERS tog & sew in SLEEVES.

NECK BORDER:
From RS, join G at SHOULDER seam.

Work 1 rnd SC around NECK edge, be careful to keep work flat, & join with sl st in 1st SC. End off.

Working in SC, work 1 rnd Y, 1 rnd R.

From RS with MC, work 1 row SC around lower CENTER FRONT slit.

LOWER BORDER:
Join G in lower left FRONT edge.

1ST ROW: SC in base of each SC around lower edge of BACK & FRONT. Cut G, join Y. CH 1, turn.

2ND ROW: With Y, SC in each SC around. Cut Y; join R. CH 1, turn.

3RD ROW: With R, rep 2nd row. Cut R; join MC. Turn.

4TH ROW [FRINGE]: * CH 12, SC in next SC, rep from * around. End off.

SLEEVE FRINGE:
Join MC in lower edge of SLEEVE, * CH 12, SC in CH-1 sp, CH 12, SC in base of next SC, rep from * around. End off.

CORD:
With MC, make CH 40” long.

FINISHING:
With crocheted cord, lace up FRONT as shown in photo.

With 2 strands each of G, Y, R & MC, make two 5” tassels. Attach to ends of cord.
