Vintage 1950 Cap Sleeve Blouse #965

This charming blouse of an easy shell stitch will work up so quickly, that you will be eager to make it again & again.  Worn under a jacket, or simply without, you’ll find it a season-spanning wardrobe favorite to wear day or night.

SIZES:
Directions are for size 10.  Changes tor sizes 12 & 14 are given in brackets.

MATERIALS:
Botany Brand Gilgora, 4 [5-6] 1-oz skeins
Bone crochet hook #3
Steel crochet hook #2
6” Open zipper

GAUGE:
1 shell = 1”
2 rows = 1”

MEASUREMENTS:
Size 12 [30] – Bust 30”; Waist 25”
Size 14 [32] -  Bust 32”; Waist 26 ½”

BACK:  
With #3 bone hk, ch 88 [94-100] sts very loosely.

1ST ROW:  Work 3 dc in 4th ch from hk [half shell made], sk 2 ch, * sc in next ch, sk 2 ch, 7 dc in next ch [shell made], sk 2 ch.  Rep from * across, ending with sc in next ch, sk 2 ch, 4 dc in last ch [half shell made].  Ch 1, turn (13 [14-15] shells made, plus 2 half shells).

2ND ROW:  Sc in 1st dc, * sk 3 dc, shell in next sc, sk 3 dc, sc in next dc.  Rep from * across, ending sk 3 dc, sc in turning ch.  Ch 3, turn (14 [15-16] shells).

3RD ROW:  3 Dc in 1st sc, * sk 3 dc, sc in next dc, sk 3 dc, shell in next sc.  Rep from * across, ending sk 3 dc, 4 dc in last sc.  Ch 1, turn.

Rep last 2 rows until piece meas 4” from beg.

Change to #2 steel crochet hk.

Work even in patt for 2” more.

Change to #3 bone crochet hk.

Work even in patt until back meas 15” [15 ½”-16”] from beg, ending with 2nd row of patt.

SHAPE NECK:
NEXT ROW:  Work 1 half shell, work 5 whole shells, sl st to center of next shell on prev row.  Turn.

FOLLOWING ROW:  Sl st in each st to center of next shell, sc in center of same shell, work in patt across.  Ch 3, turn.

NEXT ROW:  Work 1 half shell, work 4 whole shells, sl st to center of next shell of prev row.  Turn.

FOLLOWING ROW:  Sl st in each st to center of next shell, sc in center of same shell, work in patt across.  Ch 3, turn.

NEXT ROW:  Work 1 half shell, work 3 whole shells, sl st to center of next shell on prev row.  Turn.

FOLLOWING ROW:  Sl st in each st to center of shell, sc in center of same shell, work in patt across.  Ch 3, turn.

NEXT ROW:  Work 1 half shell, work 2 whole shells & 1 half shell.  Ch 1, turn.

Work even in patt until back meas 19” [19 ½”-20”] from beg or desired length to shoulder.

SHAPE SHOULDER:  
Starting at neck edge, work across 1 half shell, 1 whole shell.  Break off.

Attach yarn to opposite seam edge on same row where shaping began for 1st armhole.

Work to correspond to other side.

FRONT:  
Work same as for back.

FINISHING:  
For perfect fit, baste pieces tog.

Try on & make necessary adjustments for your figure before actually sewing garment.

Sew shoulder seams.

Sew right underarm seam, leaving 6” [6 ½”-7”] open for armhole.

Sew zipper in place at left side.

Work 1 row shell st around neck.
