Free Pattern - Vintage 1946 Dynamic Disc Bag # 247

Vintage 1946 Dynamic Disc Bag # 247
   
Materials:
Bucilla Strawkraft or Fleisher’s Straw-Twist, 5 balls
1 Steel Crochet Hook #3
Lining Material

Gauge
11 rnds = 2” 

SIDE OF BAG: 
Ch 4, join with sl st.  work 10 sc in ring, do not join. 

Work in back loop of each st every rnd.

2nd rnd:  Continue around working 2 sc in each st; 20 sts.  Mark end of rnds.

3rd rnd:  * 2 Sc in next st, 1 sc in next st, rep from * to end.

4th rnd:  * 1 Sc in each of 2 sts, 2 sc in next st; rep from * to end.

5th rnd:  * 2 Sc in next st, 1 sc in each of next 3 sts; rep from * to end.

6th rnd:  * 1 Sc in each of next 4 sts, 2 sc in next st; rep from * to end; 60 sts.

7th rnd:  Pattern:  * Draw up a loop in next st, keeping 1st loop tightly on hook, ch 4 loosely, yo, thru 2 loops on hook [knot st], 1 sc in each of next 5 sts; rep from * to end.

8th rnd:  * 2 Sc in next st, 1 sc in each of 5 sts; rep from * to end.

9th rnd:  * 1 Sc in each of 6 sts, 2 sc in next; rep from * to end; 80 sts.

10th rnd:  * 1 Knot st in next st, 1 sc in next st, 1 knot st in next st, 1 sc in each of 5 sts; rep from * to end.

Rep last 3 rnds 5 times alternating incs & having 1 st more between incs after each inc rnd & 1 sc & 1 knot st more after each knot st rnd.

26th rnd:  1 Sc in each st, sl st in next st.  Fasten off. 

Make 2nd side in same way.

GUSSET & HANDLE
Ch 12, 1 sc in 2nd st from hook & in each st to end; 11 sts.

2nd row:  Ch 1, turn; 1 sc in each of 11 sts. 

Rep 2nd row until work measures 10 ½”.

Next row[right side]:  Ch 1, turn; 1 sc in each of 2 sts, * 1 knot st in next st, 1 sc in next st; rep from * 3 times, end 1 sc in last st. 

Work 3 rows of sc. 

Rep last 4 rows 3 times [4 knot st rows in all]. 

Work sc rows even until 12” from last knot st row, end on wrong side. 

Work 4 knot st rows, with 3 rows sc between as before. 

Work sc even until 10 ½” from last knot st row.  Fasten off.

FACING AT OPENING:  [Make 2]: 
Ch 61. 

Work 2 rows sc on ch.  Fasten off. 

FINISHING
Sew short ends of gusset together. 

Sew gusset around edges of side pieces, with seam at bottom of bag leaving about 10” open at top. 

Sew facing on top edge on each side of opening. 

LINE BAG
Finished Linings with zippers attached may be purchased ready-made; or may be made using suitable lining material & buckram for stiffening. 

Cut buckram ¼” smaller than bag on all sides, cover with lining & sew into bag with zipper at opening. 

Ch 17, work 2 rows sc on ch.  Fasten off. 
Attach ornament to slide pull with this piece.

Note:  Cardboard or lightweight plastic may be inserted between bag & lining to give shape of bag extra support.
