& easy to create, this elegant bag with a fringed border will become a
season-spanning favorite…you‘ll want to recreate in many colors!
MATERIALS:
Fleisher’s
Superior Knitting Worsted, 2 skeins; or
Bear
Brand Bucilla Standard Knitting Worsted, 2 skeins

BAG:
Ch
56, 1 sc in 2nd st from hook; * sk 2 sts, 1 shell of 5 dc in next
st, sk 2 sts, 1 sc in next st; rep from * to end [9 shells],
2ND
ROW [RIGHT SIDE]: Ch 2, turn, sk sc, *
yo, draw up a loop in next st, yo & thru 2 loops *; rep bet *’s twice, yo
& thru all 4 loops on hook, ch 1 for eye of inverted shell, ch 2, 1 sc in
same dc as last st, ** ch 2, rep bet *’s 6 times, yo & thru all 7 loops, ch
1 for eye, ch 2, 1 sc in same dc as last st **, rep bet **’s, end ch 2; rep bet
*’s 3 times, yo & thru all 4 loops, ch 1 for eye.
3RD
ROW: Ch 2, turn, 3 dc in eye of half
inverted shell, * 1 sc in next sc, 5 dc in eye of next shell *; rep bet *s, end
1 sc in sc, 3 dc in eye of last half shell.
4TH
ROW: Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in first dc; rep
bet **s of 2nd row, end with 1 sc in top of turning ch.
5TH
ROW: Ch 1, turn; rep bet *s of 3rd
row, end 1 sc in last sc. Rep last 4
rows until piece meas 19”, end with 2nd or 4th row.
Make
paper patt for each crocheted piece & lay aside to be used later.
FINISHING:
Steam
lightly.
Fold
bag with foundation ch 2 ¾” below top of last row.
Sew
side seams, leaving 2 ¾” free for flap.
Cut
lining according to paper patts & sew tog.
Shirr
lining bag form to correspond with crocheted bag.
Insert
finished lining in bag.
Sew
in zipper [if desired].
Note:
Cardboard or lightweight plastic may be inserted
between bag & lining to give shape of bag extra support.
FRINGE:
Working
from front of bag, work 1 sl st at lower corner, thru both thicknesses of side
seam, * ch 16, work 1 sl st ¼” above prev sl st; rep from * to top of
seam. Fasten off.
Work
fringe on other side to correspond, beg at top corner.
Work
fringe around flap, from right side.
