Free Pattern - Vintage 1943 Elegant Bow Envelope Purse #263

Vintage 1943 Elegant Bow Envelope Purse #263
 MATERIALS:
Fleisher’s Superior Knitting worsted, 2 skeins; or
Bucilla Standard Knitting worsted, 2 skeins
#4 Crochet Hook
10” Zipper
½ yd Lining Material

Approximate Size:  15 ¾” x 9”

GAUGE: 
14 dc = 3”;    
3 rows = 1” 

SIDE PIECE: 
Ch 55, 1 dc in 4th st from hook & in each st to end [55 dc, counting ch]. 

2nd row [wrong side]:  Ch 2, turn, sk 1st dc, * 1 dc working from front, around post of next dc; rep from *, end 1 dc in top of turning ch.

3rd row:  Ch 2, turn, sk 1 dc, 1 dc in each dc & in top of turning ch [53 dc]. 

Rep last 2 rows until 9”, end on wrong side.  Fasten off.  Make 2.

Center Piece: 
Ch 20, 1 dc in 4th st from hook & in each st to end [18 dc-counting ch].

2nd row [right side]:  Ch 2, turn, 1 dc working from front around post of 2nd dc, * 1 dc in each of next 2 dc, 1 dc working from front around post of next dc; rep from *, end 1 dc in top of turning ch.

3rd row:  Ch 2, turn, 1 dc in 2nd st, * 1 dc working around post of each of next 2 dc, 1 dc in next dc; rep from *, end 1 dc in turning ch. 

Rep last 2 rows for 6”, end on right side.  Fasten off.

SECOND HALF: 
Working from right side, join yarn in 1st st of foundation ch, ch 3, 1 dc around post of 2nd dc, * 1 dc in each of next 2 sts of foundation ch, 1 dc around post of next dc; rep from *, end 1 dc in last st of foundation ch. 

Complete to correspond to 1st half.

FINISHING: 
Steam. 

Fold center piece at foundation ch. 

Fold side pieces & sew end of rows to sides of center, holding in fullness. 

Join lower edges of side pieces, working sc through both thicknesses. 

Work 1 row sc around top of bag. 

Sew 10” zipper at center top edges of bag. 

Line bag. 

Sew together free edges at each side of fastener.

TAB: 
Ch 3, join into ring, 3 sc in ring, join.

2nd row:  Ch 1, 2 sc in same st with joining, 1 sc in next st, * 3 sc in next, 1 sc in next; rep from * twice, 1 sc in st with 1st 2 sc, join. 

Work 2 more rows, working 3 sc at each corner.  Fasten off.  Make 2. 

Sew together with wrong sides together. 

Make 3” chain, work 1 sl st in back thread of each st, draw ch through zipper pull; fold & sew to tab.

MISS JULIA’S PURSE LINING NOTES:
Make paper patt for each crocheted piece before joinings & lay aside to be used later.

Cut lining according to paper patts & sew tog. 

Shirr lining bag form to correspond with crocheted bag.

Insert finished lining in bag. 

Sew in zipper [if desired].

Note: 
Cardboard or lightweight plastic may be inserted between bag & lining to give shape of bag extra support.
