2nd
row: Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each st [57 sc].
3rd
row [right side]: Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in
first st, 1 dc around stem of 4th sc of first row [draw up
long loop for dc], sk 1 sc of last row, work 1 sc in next sc, 1 dc around stem
of 2nd sc of first row, sk 1 sc of last row, 1 sc in next sc,
* sk 3 sc from dc on first row, 1 dc around stem of next sc of first row, sk 1
sc of last row, 1 sc in next sc, 1 dc around center sc of the 3 sk sc of first
row, sk 1 sc of last row, 1 sc in next sc; rep from * to end.
4th
& all even rows: Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in
each st [57 sc].

row: Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each of first 3 sc,

rnd: Ch 1, 1 sc in same st as sl st, 1 sc in
each of next 3 sts, 2 sc in each of next 3 sts, 38 sc, 2 sc in each of next 3
sts, 7 sc, 2 sc in each of next 3 sts, 38 sc, 2 sc in each of next 3 sts, 3 sc,
join with a sl st in first sc.
9th
rnd: Ch 1, 1 sc in each st, join [114
sts]. Fasten off.
FINISHING:
Steam
each piece separately.
Sew
side pieces tog along side edges.
Pin
lower edge [foundation ch] of sides to bottom of bag with side seams at center
on incd ends of bottom, sew tog, overcastting edges & matching sts.
Working
from wrong side, work 1 sl st in each st around top of bag.
CORDS:
With
2 strands of yarn, ch 30”, work 1 sl st in single horizontal thread at back of
each st. Fasten off.
Make
2 cords.
Draw
1 cord around bag, inserting cord under crossed dc sts of 4th “crossed
dc” row from top.
Fasten
ends of cord tog.
Insert
2nd cord under crossed dc sts of 5th “crossed dc” row
from top. Fasten ends.
Cut
a piece of cardboard same size as bottom piece of bag.
Line
both sides.
Cut
lining same size as top of bag, sew to bottom lining & insert in bag.
Sew
top of lining ¼” from top of bag.
Baste
& featherstitch lining to bag above & below cords.
