Vintage 1940s Two-Timer Handbag #242

Quick & easy to create, this delightful handbag is “2-bags-in-1” & will become a season-spanning favorite…you‘ll want to recreate in many colors!

MATERIALS:
4 -75 yd spools Black Corde
4 -75 yd spools White Corde
[Interchangeable with Soutache, Bagtwist, or Straw]
#5 Steel Crochet Hook
Lining Material [if desired]
Handle

BAG:
Ch 12”. 

Sk first st.  Work 1 sc in each st.  Ch, turn [work back half of st]. 

Ch 1, turn, dec 1 st on one side only til 9 sts rem. 

Make 2 pieces black & 2 pieces white.

Make 1 row of sc around piece of same color. 

Join 1 black & 1 white tog with black. 

Do same to other 2 pieces, leaving the starting rows open, face the white to the white, leaving the 9 st piece extending at each end & join at bottom in black.

WITH WHITE: 
Join at top of bag, ch 3, work 6 dc in 3rd ch from hook, * sk 2 st, work 1 sc, sk 2 st, work 7 dc in same st, rep from * on 3 sides. 

Work 1 row of sc in black, st for st.

LINING:
Make paper patt for each crocheted piece & lay aside to be used later.

Cut lining according to paper patts & sew tog. 

Shirr lining bag form to correspond with crocheted bag.

Insert finished lining in bag.

Note:  Cardboard or lightweight plastic may be inserted between bag & lining to give shape of bag extra support.

TAB: 
Ch 6, work in sc for 3”. 

Make 1 white & 1 black. 

Sew to top of bag.

Insert Handle in tabs.
