Vintage 1940s Chic Tote #305
Quick & easy to create, this delightful purse will become a season-spanning favorite!

MATERIALS: 
1 large spool  Corde
OR
Interchangeable with Soutache, Ribbonette, or Straw
#5 Bone Crochet Hook
Lining Material
2 Handles

HANDY Abbreviations:
BEG                =  Begin                                 
BET                =  Between
CH                  =  Chain                                 
CONT             =  Continue
DC                  =  Double Crochet               
DEC               =  Decrease
HDC               =  Half Double Crochet       
INC                 =  Increase
MEAS             =  Measure                            
REM               =  Remain
REP                =  Repeat                               
RND               =  Round
SK                   =  Skip                                    
SL                   =  Slip
ST                   =  Stitch                                  
TOG                =  Together
TR                   =  Triple Crochet                   
YO                  =  Yarn Over

BAG: 
Ch 16”. 

1ST ROW:  Work 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook & sc in each sc across row, ch 3 turn.

2ND ROW:  * Sk 2 sts work 5 dc in next sc, sk 2 work 1 sc in next st, rep bet * across row, end row with sc.  Ch 3, turn.

3RD ROW:  * Work 5 dc in back of sc of row below & sc in back of 3rd dc of shell of row below, rep bet * across row.

Rep 3rd row for 8 ½”.

Make 2 pieces.

PULLS: 
Ch 3, join, ch 1. 

1ST ROW:  Work 2 sc in each st.

2ND ROW:  Work 1 sc in first st & 2 sc in next st.

3RD ROW:  Work 1 sc in first 2 sts & 2 sc in next st. 

Work even for 6 rows.

Dec in one row to 6 sts, work round & round in sc for 7”, ** then inc in each st.

Work even 6 rows.

Then dec 3 sts throughout every row 4 times, draw sts tog.  **

Draw thru sts 1” from top of bag.

FINISHING: 
MISS JULIA’S PURSE LINING NOTES:
Make paper patt for each crocheted piece before joinings.

Cut lining according to paper patts & sew tog. 

Shirr lining bag form to correspond with crocheted bag.

Insert finished lining in bag.  Sew in zipper [if desired].

Insert Handles.

Note:  Cardboard or lightweight plastic may be inserted between bag & lining to give shape of bag extra support.
