Vintage 1934 Sweater Blouse #536

Quick & easy to knit this lovely blouse in lacy pattern…smart & stylish lines of collar & off-side buttons…season-spanning, wardrobe favorite…perfect for many occasions!

SIZE:  34 - 36

MATERIALS: 
J & P Coats Knit-Cro-Sheen, 3 balls Rose, 2 balls Blue
#3 [3mm] Knitting Needles
#1 [2 ½ mm] Knitting Needles
#6 Steel Crochet Hook
6 Button Molds ¾” diameter

STITCHES:

BACK: 
With Rose & #3 needles, cast on 96 sts. 

Change to #1 needles & k in ribbing of k 2, p 2 for 2 ¾”. 

Change to #3 needles & k 1 row, inc 1 st in every 10th st [105 sts on needle--multiple of 3].  P 1 row.

PATTERN: 
1ST ROW:  K 2 sts, * k 2 tog, yo, k 1, rep from *, end k 2.

2ND ROW:  * P 1, p 2 tog, yo, rep from *, end p 3.

3RD ROW:  K across.

4TH ROW:  P across.

5TH ROW:  K 2, * yo, k 2 tog, k 1, rep from *, end k 2.

6TH ROW:  P 2, * p 2 tog, yo, p 1, rep from *, end p 2.

7TH & 8TH ROWS:  Same as 3rd & 4th

Work in patt for 8” from top of ribbing, end with 6th row.  This brings work to armhole. 

Bind off 9 sts beg of next 2 rows, work 1st & 2nd rows in patt, then dec 1 st at beg & end of 3rd, 4th & 5th rows by k first 2 & last 2 tog, & cont in patt.  [5th row beg k 2 tog, k 1, yo, k 2 tog, k 1, etc]. 

Work even in patt for 6”, end with 6th row of patt. 

Bind off 9 sts at beg of next 6 rows, then bind off rem sts for neck.

FRONT: 
In same manner as for back, cast on 104 sts & work in ribbing. 

Change to #3 needles & k 1 row, inc 1 st in every 10th [114 sts on needle]. 

P next row. 

Work in patt for 7”, ready for 7th row. 

K 39 sts, place rem sts on st holder, turn. 

Cast on 10 sts *& p across. 

Cont working 39 sts in patt, & additional 10 sts in garter st, for 1”, end with 6th row. 

Bind off 9 sts beg next row, & work 3 rows even. 

Dec at armhole on next 3 rows. 

Work even until armhole meas 6” [28 ridges in garter st edge]. 

Bind off 10 sts & work in patt for 9 rows, then bind off 9 sts at a time from armhole for shoulder. 

Attach thread & k sts on st holder, p next row to within last 9 sts, which are to be k in garter st. 

Work right front to correspond, make 5 buttonholes in garter st band, 1st being made on 7th ridge, & other with 4 ridges bet.  [1st buttonhole is made at same time that armhole is shaped.]  To make buttonhole, k 3, bind off 3, k 3, patt. 

On next row, cast on 3 sts where 3 were bound off. 

When last buttonhole is complete, work until there are 28 ridges, then bind off garter sts & patt sts to within 27 sts from end. 

Work in patt for 9 rows, then bind off 9 sts at a time from armhole for shoulder.

SLEEVE: 
In usual way, cast on 64 sts, work in ribbing for 2”. 

Change to #3 needles & k 1 row, inc 1 st in 5th, then in every 8th st [72 sts on needle]. 

P 1 row. 

Work in patt for 3”, end with 6th row of patt. 

At beg of next 2 rows, bind off 6 sts, work 1st & 2nd rows even, & on next & every 3rd, 4th & 5th rows, make dec at beg & end, work other rows even. 

Work until there are 30 sts on needle, & ready for 6th row. 

Work 6th row in patt, but omit yo sts, & bind off on next row tightly. 

COLLAR: 
With Blue & #3 needle, cast on 220 sts. 

Work in garter st for 4 ridges, then work in patt, with 1st & last 5 sts in garter st, until piece meas 4”, ready for 2nd or 6th row of patt. 

Work either row, omit yo sts. 

Then work 3 rows of ribbing with #1 needles [k 2, p 2], & bind off tightly.  Attach as in photo.

BUTTONS: 
Using Crochet Hook & blue, ch 2. 

1ST RND:  6 Sc in 2nd ch.

2ND RND:  2 Sc in each sc.

3RD RND:  1 Sc in each sc.

4TH RND:  2 Sc in every other sc, with 1 sc bet.

5TH RND:  Sc over sc.

6TH RND:  Sl button inside, & close up by sc in every other sc until button is all enclosed. 

Leave piece of thread to sew button to blouse.
