Vintage 1934 Sophisticated Evening Blouse #451

Quick & easy to crochet this blouse with it‘s stylish, low back, long sleeves & wrapped waistband…a sophisticated, season-spanning wardrobe favorite…perfect for many occasions!


SIZE: 
This pattern is a vintage size 16, differentiated by the following approximate measurements: 
Bust:  35";    Waist:  29";     Hip:  38".

MATERIALS: 
Minerva Velveen, White #1100, 6 Balls [approx 300 yds ea]
 #5 Steel Crochet Hook

GAUGE: 
2 mesh = 1”

Ch 40 to meas 4 ½“ [shoulder].

1st row:  1 Sc in 8th ch from hook, * ch 3, 1 sc in first ch [picot], ch 2, sk 3 ch, 1 sc in next ch [picot mesh], rep from * across ch [8 picot mesh], ch 5, turn.

2nd row:  1 Sc in first mesh, * ch 3, 1 sc in first ch [picot], ch 2, 1 sc, in next mesh, rep from * across row, ch 7, turn. 

This row forms patt in which entire blouse is worked. 

Rep Row 2, working even for 22 more rows.

Following Rows:  Inc 1 mesh at center back by:  turn, work 1 sc in last sc of prev row, 1 picot mesh in last picot mesh of row below. [All incs are made in this manner.]  Cont across row. 

Inc in this manner at center back every 8th row 2 times, then every 4th row 3 times. 

At same time, at armhole side after 27 rows, inc 1 mesh every other row 2 times. 

Work side seams even for 15 more rows, then dec 1 mesh every 4th row 3 times. 

To dec ch 3 to turn & work Patt Row 2.

Work 2 rows even, then inc 1 mesh at center back.

Work 2 rows even & at end of next row at center back ch 163 to form belt. 

Turn & work as Row 1 to start of ch & cont in patt to end of row. 

Work even for 13 rows. 

On next row, start at side seam, work peplum by inc 1 picot mesh in each of next 8 picot mesh, work even across next 5 picot mesh [21 picot mesh]. 

On these 21 picot mesh, work even for 24 rows.  Fasten yarn. 

Work other half of back to match.

Front: 
Ch 104 to meas 11”.

1st row:  1 Sc in 8th ch from hook, * ch 3, 1 sc in first ch [picot], ch 2, sk 5 ch, 1 sc in next ch, rep from * across row [16 picot mesh].

Work in patt same as back for 6 rows even.

* Inc 1 mesh at beg of next 2 rows, work 1 row even, rep from * 3 more times. 

Inc 1 mesh at beg of every row 6 times. 

This comp shoulders.  When sewing to back shoulder, put extra fullness toward neck edge. 

Work even for 27 rows.

Inc 1 mesh each side at beg of each of next 6 rows [3 picot mesh each side]. 

Work even for 15 rows then dec 1 mesh each side every 4th  row 3 times.

Work even for 15 rows. 

Next row start peplum by inc 1 picot mesh in each of first 11 picot mesh, work without inc in next 8 picot mesh, inc 1 picot mesh by working in next sc & cont to inc in each of 11 rem picot mesh [53 picot mesh].

Work even for 24 rows.  Fasten yarn.

Sleeves: 
Ch 40 to meas 4 ½“. 

Work 2 rows even then inc 1 mesh at beg of every row 12 times.

Work 4 rows even, then inc 1 mesh at beg of each of next 4 rows.

* Work even for 14 rows, then dec 1 mesh each side, rep from * 2 more times, then dec 1 mesh each side every 8th  row 2 times

Work 16 rows even or desired length. 

Shape point at bottom of sleeve by working 1 less mesh at end of every row until 2 mesh rem.  Fasten yarn.

Work other sleeve to corres.

Sew shoulder seams, sew underarm seams. 

Attach yarn at right shoulder seam & work 1 row of picot mesh around blouse to left shoulder seam.  Fasten yarn. 

Sew sleeve seams. 

Sew sleeves in place. 

Work 1 row of picot mesh around bottom of sleeve.
