Infants Double-Breasted Cardigan Sweater #B206
MATERIALS:
Wool, 3-ply 6 ozs.
1 pair each Old UK #10 & #13 / US #3 & #1/ 3.25mm & 2.25mm
4 buttons

GAUGE/TENSION:
7½ sts & 10 rows = 1”

MEASUREMENTS:
Chest = 22”
Length = 14½”
Sleeve seam = 11½”

PATTERN:
LEFT FRONT:
Use smaller needles cast on 58 sts.

NEXT ROWS: Work in K1, P1 rib for 14 rows.

15TH ROW: (WRONG SIDE) Make 2 buttonholes as follows: Rib 5, cast off 4, rib 14, cast off 4, rib to end.

16TH ROW: Work in rib, cast on 4 sts into cast off sp.

NEXT ROWS: Work further 13 rows in rib.

Using short length of wool cast on 30 sts on spare larger sized needle for facing. Put this aside.

CHANGE TO LARGER NEEDLES.

NEXT ROW: K to end, then K 30 sts on spare needle for facing = 88 sts.

NEXT ROWS: Work ST ST for 14 rows, inc 1 st at beg of 6th & 14th rows, armhole edge = 90 sts.

NEXT ROW: P3, cast off 4, P14, cast off 4, P10, cast off 4, P14, cast off 4, P to end.

NEXT ROW: K, cast on 4 sts into cast-off sps.

NEXT ROWS: Cont in ST ST, shape for side by inc 1 st at beg of 6th & every 8th row following till there are 94 sts, at same time make buttonhole as before in 23rd & 24th  rows.

NEXT ROWS: Work 27 rows.

SHAPE ARMHOLE:
** Cast off 6 sts at beg of next row.

NEXT ROWS: Dec 1 st at armhole end in next 6 rows = 82 sts. **

NEXT ROW: P30 (leave on spare needle for facing), P to end of row.

Cont on these 52 sts as follows:
1ST, 5TH, 9TH, 13TH, 17TH, 21ST, 25TH, 29TH & 33RD ROWS: K to last 2 sts., K2tog.

2ND & ALT ROWS: P.

3RD ROW: K22, K2tog, K to last 2 sts., K2tog.

7TH ROW: K21, K2tog, K to last 2 sts., K2tog.

11TH ROW: K20, K2tog, K to last 2 sts., K2tog.

15TH ROW: K19, K2tog, K to last 2 sts., K2tog.

19TH ROW: K18, K2tog, K to last 2 sts., K2tog.

SHAPE SHOULDER:
*** Cast off 12 sts at beg of next row.

WORK BACK:
Cast off rem 12 sts. ***

CONT FACING AS FOLLOWS:
Right side of work facing, join wool to 30 sts on spare needle, K to end.

NEXT ROWS: Cont in ST ST, dec 1 st at neck edge in every alt row till 12 sts rem.

NEXT ROWS: Cont straight till facing meas same as front to shoulder. Cast off.

RIGHT FRONT:
Use smaller needles cast on 58 sts.

NEXT ROWS: Work in K1, P1 rib for 29 rows.

CHANGE TO LARGER NEEDLES.

NEXT ROW: Cast on 30 sts for facing, K to end = 88 sts.

NEXT ROWS: Work in ST ST, inc 1 st. at end (side shaping) in 6th & every 8th rows following till there are 94 sts.

NEXT ROWS: Work 28 rows.

SHAPE ARMHOLE:
Rep from ** to ** as for left front.

NEXT ROW: K.

NEXT ROW: P52, leave last 30 sts on spare needle for facing.

Cont on 52 sts rem as follows:
1ST, 5TH, 9TH, 13TH, 17TH, 21ST, 25TH, 29TH & 33RD ROWS: K2tog, K to end.

SHAPE SHOULDER:
Rep from *** to *** as given for left front.

FACING CONT:
Wrong side of work facing, join wool to inside of 30 sts on spare needle, & work in ST ST dec 1 st at neck end on every alt row till 12 sts rem.

NEXT ROWS: Cont straight till facing meas same as front to shoulder. Cast off.

BACK:
Use smaller needles cast on 84 sts.

NEXT ROWS: Work in K1, P1 rib for 29 rows.

CHANGE TO LARGER NEEDLES.

NEXT ROWS: Work in ST ST, inc 1 st at each end in 7th & every 8th row following till there are 96 sts.

NEXT ROWS: Cont without further shaping, till work meas same as fronts to armhole.

SHAPE ARMHOLE:
NEXT ROWS: Cast off 6 sts at beg of next 2 rows.

NEXT ROWS: Then dec 1 st at each end in every row till 74 sts rem.

NEXT ROWS: Cont straight till work meas same as front to shoulder.

SHAPE SHOULDER:
Cast off 12 sts at beg of next 4 rows.

Cast off rem sts.

SLEEVES (BOTH ALIKE):
Use smaller needles cast on 52 sts.

NEXT ROWS: Work in K1, P1 rib for 2”.

CHANGE TO LARGER NEEDLES.

NEXT ROWS: Work in ST ST, inc 1 st. at each end in 5th & every 8th row following till there are 72 sts.

NEXT ROWS: Cont without further shaping, till work meas 11½” from start or length desired.

SHAPE TOP:
Cast off 4 sts at beg of next 2 rows.

NEXT ROWS: Dec 1 st at each end in every alt row till 24 sts rem. Cast off.
COLLAR:

Use larger needles cast on 4 sts.

NEXT ROWS: Start with P row work in ST ST, inc 1 st at each end in every K row till there are 40 sts.

NEXT ROWS: lnc 1 st at each end in every 4th row following till there are 50 sts.

NEXT ROWS: Work straight for 33 rows.

NEXT ROWS: Dec 1 st at each end in next & every 4th row following till 40 sts rem.

NEXT ROWS: Then in every alt row till 4 sts rem.

NEXT ROW: P. Cast off.

FINISHING:
Press lightly.

Join side, shoulder & sleeve seams.

Sew in sleeves.

Fold collar in half & attach to neck.

Sew facings in position.

Press seams & facings, stretching outer edge of collar slightly.

Sew on buttons.
