Rompers & Bootees Set #B213
The
pineapple stitch gives this oufit its delightful texture.
SIZE:
6 Months & 1 Year.

Directions are for size 6 months, with changes for 1
year size in brackets. Chest measurements are about 20” [22”].
MATERIALS:
Baby OR Fingering Yarn, 3 Ply: 3 oz Blue; 1 oz White
1 Steel Crochet Hook #2 [Canada #1]
8 Small Pearl Buttons

GAUGE/TENSION:
3 Pineapple sts = 1”
3 Rows PS = 1”

PINEAPPLE
STITCH DIRECTIONS:
NOTE: Stitch is abbreviated PS thru out pattern.
To learn st & test gauge, CH 12 VERY loosely. If you work tightly, use hook a size or 2 larger for starting chain.
1ST ROW: 1ST STEP: YO, insert hk in 4th CH from hk [3 lps on hk]; hk under yarn & pull thru 1 lp pulling yarn up to about ½” long [3 lps now on hk]. Insert hk in net CH st [4 lps on hk], hk under yarn & pull thru 1 lpp, pulling yarn up to about ½” [4 lps now on hk]. YO & pull thru all 4 lps on hk [1 lp rems], CH 1 [ 1 PS has now been completed].

Step for balance of row, end DC in last CH. Cut yrn, pull end thru st.
NOTE:
In pineapple stitch yarn is broken at end of each row, unless garment is worked
joined in rnds. New rows start back at
beg of 1st row.
2ND
ROW: Start new row at beg of last row. Join yarn in top of CH 3 of prev row, CH
3, YO, insert hk in sp bet CH 3 & 1st PS of prev row, & pull
up ½” lp [3 lps on hk, insert hk in sp bet 1st & 2nd
PS of prev row, & pull up ½” lp [4 lps on hk], YO & pull thru all 4 lps
on hk, CH 1. Cont making PS, drawing up
lp 1st in same sp, then 1 sp beyond, for each st. End, DC in last sp. Cut yarn, pull end thru
st.
Cont to work all following rows, same as 2nd Row.
For
test swatch, work total of 6 rows.
Meas to check gauge. If different than that
specified, change your hk size and/or adjust height of lps.
ROMPERS:
With white, beg at top & work from shoulder to shoulder, CH 27 [29].
With white, beg at top & work from shoulder to shoulder, CH 27 [29].
Start in 4th CH from hk work 4 [4] PS,
2 DC in next st, 14 [16] PS, 2 DC in next st, 4 [4] PS, DC in last st of CH.
Fasten off.
Cont in same way for 6 rows, work 2 DC over 2 DC
below [widening] & break yarn at end of each row.
This compls 1 side of yoke.
Make 2nd side in same way.
7TH ROW: Start at 1 of widenings from
right, CH 3 & work PS across, widening at DC [on shoulder] as before. At
end of row, join 2nd half & work across in same way. Join tog
with sl st. [DO NOT BREAK YARN.]
8TH ROW: CH 3, work 28 [30] PS across
froont, 2 DC, 23 [23] PS [SLEEVE] 2 DC, 28 [30] PS across back, 2 DC 23 [23] PS
[2ND SLEEVE], 1 DC, join to CH 3.
9TH ROW: CH 3, join sleeve at underarm
with double PS [1/2 PS is in 1 sleeve widening – other ½ PS is in other sleeve
widening]. Work PS across to 2nd sleeve & join tog in same way.
Work PS to end of row & join to CH 3.
This makes sleeve openings.
* Make 8
[9] more rows * even. Fasten off. Join blue yarn.
18TH
[19TH] ROW: With blue cont as above bet * for 23 [24] more
rows, widening 3 times over each hip on 2nd row, & again on 6th
row. [To widen, work 1 DC bet 2 PS.]
Break yarn.

BOTTOM:
42ND [43RD ] ROW: With blue, start at CH 3, count off 20 [22] PS, fasten yarn & work 16 PS. Break yarn.

43RD [44TH] ROW: Work 14
PS. Break yarn.
44TH [45TH] ROW: 12 PS.

With blue, SC around leg & bottom for 4 rows,
but in 1st row work 2 SC in 1 st, 1 SC in next, around, widening at
corners.
In 2nd row, SC around, widening at
corners; 3rd row, SC, widening at corners, & work 3 buttonholes
[SC, CH 2, sk 1 st, SC].
4TH row, SC, widening at corners.
SLEEVE:
Join white yarn at underarm, CH 3 & work PS around [DO NOT PICK UP DC].
Join white yarn at underarm, CH 3 & work PS around [DO NOT PICK UP DC].
PS for 8 [9] rows.
In blue, SC aroound for 4 rows. Fasten off.
WAIST:
Start at top of blue part & work with blue, SC around for 4 rows as follows:

ROWS: SC. Fasten off.
NECK EDGING:
With blue, join yarn at base of left shoulder opening, SC around entire neck edge & shoulders, widening & dec where needed.

Work 2nd row of SC.
Work 3rd row, at front of left
shoulder opening wrk 2 buttonholes as before, have about 1 7/8” bet

STRAPS:

FINISHING:
Sew 3 buttons at crotch, 2 on left shoulder.

st, then work along other side of CH same way: 8 [9] DC, 9 [11] SC, join.

RND: CH 3, 2 DC in each of next 2 sts, DC around to [6 DC] cluster [for toe],
work 2 DC in each of 6 DC, then DC around to last st, 2 DC in this, join.
3RD
RND: CH 3, 2 DC, 1 DC, 2 DC, then DC around to toe, 2 DC, 1 DC [6 times], DC
around to heel, 2 DC, 1 DC, & join. Fasten off.
Make
4 of these for double soles.
SIDE:
Place 2 soles back to back & with MC, work DC around entire edge, pick up 2 inside lps, 1 on each sole. Join.

5 [7] rnds of SC. Fasten off.
INSTEP:
With CC, work 8 [9] SC across toe.
