Vintage 1970s Stained Glass Shell Sweater #1241 

SIZE:
Petite [Small-Medium]

MATERIALS:
Lee Wards Lightweight Knitting Worsted Orlon Sayelle, Skeins = 7 [ 8 –9]
1 Crochet Hook #D [F-G]

NOTE:
Size increases are made by increasing hook sizes.

GAUGE/TENSION:
Small Square = 1 ¾ ” [2” – 2 ¼”]
Center Hexagon, measured diagonal  = 5” [5 ½” – 6”]

MEASUREMENTS:
Bust = 26” [31 ½” - 34”]
PATTERN NOTE:
Change color every rnd. Beg each rnd with CH 3 [1st DC]: end each rnd with sl st of start CH-3. Fasten off.

CENTER HEXAGON [6 SIDES]:
MAKE 2:
CH 8, join with sl st to form ring.

1ST RND: CH 3 [counts as 1st DC], 2 DC in ring, * CH 2, 3 DC in ring, rep from * 4 times more, CH 2.

2ND RND: Attach yarn to any CH-2 sp, CH 3 [1st DC], [2 DC, CH 2, 3 DC] in same sp [1st corner made], * CH 1, work [3 DC, CH 2, 3 DC] corner in next sp, rep from * around, end CH 1 = 6 corners.

3RD RND: Attach yarn to any CH-2 corner sp, work 1st corner in same sp, * CH 1, 3 DC in next CH-1 sp, CH 1, corner in next sp, rep from * around, end last rep CH 1, 3 DC, CH 1.

4TH RND: Attach yarn to CH-2 corner sp, work corner in same sp, * [CH 1, 3 DC in next sp] twice, CH 1, corner in next corner sp, rep from * around, end last rep [CH 1, 3 DC in last CH-1 sp, CH 1] twice.

PENTAGON: [5 SIDES]:
MAKE 6:
CH 7, join with sl st to form ring.

1ST RND: CH 3, 2 DC in ring, * CH 2, 3 DC in ring, rep from * 3 times more, CH 2.

2ND RND: Attach yarn & work corner in CH-2 corner sp, * CH 1, work corner in next sp, rep from * around, CH-1 = 5 corners.

3RD RND: Attach yarn to CH-2 corner sp, work corner in same sp, * CH 1, 3 DC in next sp, CH 1, corner in next sp, rep from * around, end CH 1, 3 DC in last sp, CH 1.

4TH RND: Attach yarn in corner sp, work corner in same so, * [CH 1, 3 DC in next sp] twice, CH 1, corner in next sp, rep from * around, end [CH 1, 3 DC in next sp] twice, CH 1.

LARGE SQUARE:
MAKE 18:
CH 6, join with sl st to form ring.

1ST RND: CH 3, 2 DC in ring, * CH 2, 3 DC in ring, rep from * 2 times, more CH 2.

2ND RND: Attach yarn & work corner in CH-2 sp, * CH 1, corner in next sp, rep from * around, CH 1.

3RD RND: Attach yarn & work corner in CH-2 sp, * CH 1, 3 DC in next sp, CH 1, corner in next sp, rep from * around, end CH 1, 3 DC in last sp, CH 1.

4TH RND: Attach yarn & work corner in corner sp, * [CH 1, 3 DC in next sp] twice, CH 1, corner in next sp, rep from * around, end [CH 1, 3 DC in next sp] twice, CH 1.

SMALL SQUARE:
MAKE 32:
CH 5, join with sl st to form ring.

TRIANGLE:
MAKE 24:
CH 5, join with sl st to form ring.

1ST RND: CH 3, 2 DC in ring, * CH 1, 3 DC in ring, rep from * once more, CH 1.

2ND RND: Attach yarn & work corner in CH-1 sp, * CH 1, corner in next sp, rep from * once more, CH 1.

3RD RND: Attach yarn & work corner in corner sp, * CH 1, 3 DC in next sp, CH 1, corner in next sp, rep from * once, CH 1, 3 DC in last sp, CH 1.

4TH RND: Attach yarn & work corner in corner sp, * [CH 1, 3 DC in next sp] twice, CH 1, corner in next sp, rep from * once, [CH 1, 3 DC in next sp] twice, CH 1.

FINISHING:
All pieces are overcast tog, change color for each seam section.

FRONT:
Follow diagram, & sew pieces around center hexagon.

A & B pieces form side panels that are connected to back.
