Vintage 1940s Daphne Peplum Sweater #1193
This vintage chic top is knit from side to side in a striped, feather & fan pattern. The V neck, cap sleeves & peplum give this a modern, sophisticated look
SIZE:
34″ bust
MATERIALS:
Lincoln Mills Daphne Fingering Weight Wool: Black - 3 oz; Turquoise - 4 oz
1 Pair Knitting Needles #3/3.25mm
1 Crochet Hook
4 Small Buttons
3 Snap Fasteners
MEASUREMENTS:
Length = 21″
bust Width = 34″
Sleeve seam = 1 1/4″
GAUGE/TENSION:
7 ½ sts = 1”
10 rows = 1”
Upper part of this sweater is worked lengthwise.
RIGHT HALF BACK:
Cast on 12 sts with black & K into back of sts.
NEXT ROW: Cast on 6 sts at beg, K rem of row.
NEXT ROW: Work in ST ST, cast on 6 sts at beg of alt rows, until there are 48 sts on needle.
NEXT ROW: P.
NEXT ROW: Cast on 12 sts at beg of row & K = 60 sts on needle.
NEXT ROW: Cast on 50 sts at beg of row, K into back of all cast-on sts & P rem of row.

NEXT ROW: K.
Fasten off black & join turquoise = 110 sts on needle.
CONT IN PATT:
1ST – 6TH ROWS: K.
7TH ROW: * (K2 tog) twice, (wo, K1) 3 times, wo  (K2 tog) twice, rep from * across row.
8TH ROW: K1, P to last st, K1.
9TH & 10TH ROWS: K.
11TH ROW: Rep 7th row.
12TH ROW: Rep 8th row.
13TH – 18TH ROWS: K.
** Fasten off turquoise & join black.
NEXT ROWS: K 2 rows.
NEXT ROW: P.

NEXT ROW: Cast on 12 sts at beg of row & P rem of row = 60 sts on needle.

NEXT ROW: K back to neck end.

NEXT ROW: Cast off 2 sts & P rem of row.
NEXT ROW: K.
NEXT ROWS: Tie on turquoise & K 6 rows, casting off 2 sts at neck edge of alt.
NEXT ROW: Cast off 6 sts at beg of row & work 7th row across rem of row = 77 sts on needle.

NEXT ROWS: Work 8th – 18th rows of patt. Cast off.
RIGHT HALF FRONT:
Work in same way as left half of back until 2nd turquoise stripe is compl.

SHAPING NECK:
NEXT ROW: Tie on black. K.
NEXT ROW: Cast off 15 sts at beg of row & K rem of row.
NEXT ROW: P.
NEXT ROW: Cast off 2 sts at beg of row, K 67 sts, turn.

NEXT ROW: P back to neck edge.
NEXT ROW: Cast off 2 sts & K rem of row, work across entire row.
NEXT ROWS: Work 4 more rows in ST ST, cast off 2 sts at beg of K rows.
NEXT ROW: Tie on turquoise & K 6 rows, cast off 2 st at beg of alt rows at neck edge, twice, then 6 sts once = 77 sts on needle.
NEXT ROWS: Work 7th - 18th rows of patt. Cast off.
PEPLUM: (BACK & FRONT SAME):
Cast on 176 sts with turquoise & work 1st - 18th rows of patt.
NEXT ROWS: Tie on black & K 2 rows.
NEXT ROWS: Work in ST ST until peplum meas 4” from start.
NEXT K ROW: K8, * K2 tog, rep from * to last 8 sts, K * = 96 sts on needle.
NEXT ROWS: Work 8 more rows in ST ST. Cast off.
Work another piece in same way.
SLEEVES:
NEXT ROWS: Cast on 101 sts with turquoise & work 1st - 18th rows of patt, except that 7th & 11th rows will beg & end with K1.
NEXT ROWS: Change to black & K 2 rows.
NEXT ROWS: Work 10 rows in ST ST. Cast off.
FINISHING:
Join 2 halves of front, over sew invisibly on wrong side.
Join 2 halves of back to within 4” of neck edge.
Join shoulders.
Sew in sleeves, over sew carefully on wrong side so seam is almost invisible.
Join underarm seams, leave about 2” open on left side.
Sew peplum to lower edge, leave about 1” open on left side.
Work 1 row of SC around neck edge, work turquoise on turquoise, & black on black.
Work row of SC in turquoise down right side of back opening, make lps for buttons 1” apart.
Work row of SC up left side of back opening.
Work row of SC around placket & sew on snap fasteners.

Sew in shoulder pads.
