1970s Mod Eyelet Vest & Pants Set #1314

Chic, casual & comfortable to wear in town or country. Lime wool pants, & an elongated vest are crocheted in a simple pattern of eyelet rows. Giant pockets & low back belt are closely worked.
SIZE:
Petite [8], Small [10-12], Medium [14-16] & Large [18].
Directions are for size Petite with changes for Small, Medium & Large in brackets.
MEASUREMENTS:
Body Bust = 31 ½” [32 ½”-34”;36”-38”;40”]
Finished Bust [closed] = 32” [36”-40”-44”]
MATERIALS:
Spinnerin Deluxe Knitting Worsted, 4 oz Skeins: 7 [7-8-8]
1 Crochet Hook #3-4/F

GAUGE/TENSION:
Pattern – G Hook:
4 SC = 1”; 8 Rows = 3”
PATTERN:
1ST ROW [RS]: SC in 2nd ch from hk & in each CH across. Turn.
2ND ROW: CH 3 [count as 1 DC, CH 1], sk 1st SC, DC in next SC, * CH 1, sk next SC, DC in next SC, rep from * across. CH 1, turn.
3RD ROW [RS]: SC in 1st DC, * SC in next CH-1 sp, SC in next DC, rep from * across, end SC in CH-3 sp. Turn.
Rep 2nd & 3rd rows for patt.
VEST:
BODY:
Beg at lower edge of back & fronts with G hk, CH 125 [141-157-173].
Work 1st patt row = 124 [140-156-172] SC.
Row should meas 31” [35”-39”-43”] wide.
Work in patt until piece meas 20” from start or needed length to underarm, end patt 2nd row. Turn.

1ST ROW [RS]: Work 28 [32-36-38] SC. Turn.
2ND ROW: CH 3, sk 1st 3 SC, DC in next SC, * CH 1, sk next SC, DC in next SC, rep from * across. CH 1, turn.
3RD ROW: SC in each of 26 [30-34-36] sts. Turn.
4TH, 6TH & 8TH ROWS: Rep 2nd row.
5TH ROW: SC in each of 24 [28-32-34] sts. Turn.
7TH ROW: SC in each of 22 [26-30-32] sts. Turn.
9TH ROW: SC in 20 [24-28-30] sts. Turn.
NEXT ROW: Work patt 2nd row.
Work even in patt until armhole meas approx 6” [6”-6 ¾ ”-6 ¾”] above 1st row of armhole shaping, end patt 3rd row.

BELT & POCKETS:
Beg at upper edge of belt & pockets, with G hk, CH 117 [133-149-165].
Work patt 1st & 2nd row = 116 [132-148-164] SC.
Piece should meas 29” [33”-37”-41”] wide.
3RD – 7TH ROWS: SC in each st across. CH 1, turn.
8TH & 9TH ROWS: Work patt 2nd & 3rd rows.
DIVIDE FOR POCKETS:
1ST ROW [WS]: SC in each of 24 [28-32-36] SC. CH 1, turn.
Rep last row until piece meas 9” from beg. Fasten off.
LEFT POCKET:
Join yarn in 24th [28th-32nd-36th] SC from other end on last long row. Work same as 1st pocket. Fasten off.
From RS, work 1 row Sc on sides & lower edge of each pocket, work 3 SC in each lower corner; keep work flat.
FINISHING:
Sew shoulders & match sts.
OUTER BORDER:
1ST ROW [RS]: Beg at lower right front edge, with G hk, SC up right front edge to neck, 3 SC in corner, SC around neck edge, hold in to needed fit, 3 SC in corner, SC down left front edge, have same # of SC as right front edge, 3 SC in corner st, SC in each st across lower edge, 3 SC in corner st. Join with sl st in 1st SC. Fasten off.
2ND ROW [WS]: Beg at lower left front edge, SC in each st up left front edge, around neck & down right front edge, work 3 SC in each upper corner & lower right front corner. CH 1, turn.
With pins, mark place of 7 buttonholes evenly spaced on last row of right front edge; 1st pin 4 ½” above lower edge, 7th pin in 2nd SC from corner inc at neck edge.
3RD ROW [RS - BUTTONHOLE]: * Work SC to within 1 SC of pin, CH 2, sk 2 SC, rep from * 6 times, SC in next SC, SC in center corner SC. CH 1, turn.
4TH ROW: SC in each SC & CH down right front edge. Drop yarn.
From Rs, beg at upper left front edge, work SC down left front edge. CH 1, turn.
NEXT ROW: Work 1 row SC up left front edge. Fasten off.
5TH ROW [RS]: With yarn at lower right front edge, SC in each st around outer edge, work 3 SC in each corner. Join with sl st in 1st SC. Fasten off.
SLEEVE BORDER:
Beg at underarm, from RS, work 1 rnd SC around armhole. Join with sl st in 1st SC. CH 1, turn.
2ND RND [WS]: SC in each SC around. Join with sl st in 1st SC. CH 1, turn.
3RD RND [RS]: SC in each SC around. Join with sl st in 1st SC. Fasten off.
Work same border on other armhole.
Pin lower edges of pockets to upper edge of patt 3rd row at bottom of vest, front edges of pockets at 2nd DC in from front edges of vest; sew outer edges of pockets in place incl pocket borders.
Steam press seams & borders.
Sew on buttons.
PANTS:
LEFT LEG:
Beg at lower edge, with G hk, CH 73 [77-81-85].
Work in patt on 72 [76-80-84] SC for 3 rows.
Work 2 rows SC.
Beg with patt 2nd row, work in patt until piece meas 23” from beg, or 7” less than needed length to crotch, end patt 2nd row.
Piece should meas 18” [19”-20”-21”] wide.
*BACK INC ROW: 2 SC in 1st DC, 2 SC in CH-1 sp, work in patt across = 74 [78-82-86] SC.
Mark beg of last row for back edge.
Work 3 rows even.
FRONT INC ROW: Work in patt across, end 2 SC in last CH-1 sp, 2 SC in last DC, SC in CH-3 lp = 76 [80-84-88] SC.
Mark end of last row for front edge.
