1970s Boho Lace Maxi Fiesta Dress #1308

A flounce of shells & bubbles in happy colors, circles the skirt of the gold dress. Chain loops make the skirt & top, with a picot edging. The neck & waist are fitted with drawstrings. All contribute to the trimness of style.

SIZE:
Small [8-10] & Medium [12-14].

The directions are for size Small with changes for Medium in brackets.

MEASUREMENTS:
Body Bust = 31 ½”-32 ½” [34”-36”]
Finished Bust = 33” [37”]

MATERIALS:
Columbia Minerva Nantuk Sweater & Afghan Yarn, 2 oz Skeins: 6 Gold [MC];
1 each of Orange [A], Avocado [B], Turquoise [C], Tangerine [D], & Blue [E]
1 Aluminum Crochet Hook #6/H
1 Aluminum Crochet Hook #8/I
[or UK #6 & #5]

GAUGE/TENSION:
4 SC & 3 Sps = 2” [#6/H Hook]
3 SC & 3 Sps = 2” [#8/I Hook]

SKIRT:
Beg at upper edge of back & front, with #H hk & MC, CH 190 [208].

MESH [M] PATT:
1ST ROW: SC in 4th CH from hk, * CH 2, sk 2 CH, SC in next CH, rep from * across. Turn.

2ND ROW: CH 3, SC in 1st CH-2 sp [count as 1 M], * CH 2, SC in next sp, rep from * across = 64 [69] M. Turn each row.

Rep 2nd row for M patt until piece meas 25 ½” or 9” less [border allowance] than needed finished skirt length.

Piece should meas 18” [20”] wide.

BORDER:
Join B in 1st M, CH 4 [count as 1st DC + CH 1], DC in same M [V st made], [V st of DC, CH 1, DC in next M] twice, * 2 V sts of DC, CH 1, DC in next M [1 V st inc], V st in each of next 5 [6] M, rep from * to last 6 [3] M, end 2 V sts in next M, V st in each of last 5 [2] M = 73 [79] V sts. CH 1, turn.

2ND ROW: SC in CH-1 sp of 1st V st, * CH 1, sk next V st, shell of DC [CH 1, DC] 3 times in next sp [bet 2 V sts], CH 1, sk next V st, SC in next V st, rep from * across = 24 [26] shells. Fasten off. Turn.

3RD ROW: Join C in 1st SC, CH 4, DC in same SC [1/2 shell made], * CH 1, SC in center CH-1 sp of next shell, CH 1, shell of DC [CH 1, DC] 3 times in next SC, rep from * across, end ½ shell of DC, CH 1, DC in last SC. Fasten off. Turn.

4TH ROW: Join D in 1st DC of ½ shell, SC in next CH-1 sp, * [CH 1, DC in next sp] twice, [CH 1, SC in next CH-1 sp] 3 times, rep from * across, end CH 1, SC in CH-1 sp of last ½ shell, CH 1, SC in last DC. Turn.

5TH ROW: CH 4, sk 1st SC, DC in next SC, * CH 1, sk next CH-1 sp, DC in next st, rep from * across. Fasten off. Turn.

6TH ROW: Join E in 1st DC, CH 3 [count as 1 DC], * CH 1, DC in next DC, rep from * across. Turn.

7TH ROW: CH 4, DC in next DC, * CH 1, DC in next DC, rep from * across. Fasten off. Turn.

8TH ROW: With D, rep 6th row. Fasten off. Turn.

9TH ROW: With C, work ½ shell of CH 4, DC in 1st DC, * CH 1, sk next 2 DC, SC in next CH-1 sp, CH 1, sk next 2 DC, shell of DC [CH 1, DC] 3 times in next DC, rep from * across, end last rep half shell of DC, CH 1, DC in last DC. Fasten off. Turn.

10TH ROW: With B, work SC in CH-1 sp of half shell, * CH 1, shell of DC [CH 1, DC] 3 times in next SC, CH 1, SC in center CH-1 sp of next shell, rep from * across, end SC in CH-1 sp of last half shell. Turn.

11TH ROW: CH 4, SC in 1st CH-1 sp of next shell, [CH 1, SC in next CH-1 sp] twice, * [CH 1, DC in next CH-1 sp] twice, [CH 1, SC in next sp] 3 times, rep from * across, end CH 1, DC in last sp, CH 1, DC in last SC. Fasten off. Turn.

12TH ROW: With MC, SC in 1st DC, * CH 2, sk next CH-1 sp, SC in next CH-1 sp, CH 2, sk next CH-1 sp, SC in next st, rep from * across. Turn.

Work in M patt for 4 rows. Fasten off.

CENTER ZIGZAG ROW: 
From RS, join MC in 1st sp of 5th row, * CH 3, SC in CH-1 sp to left on 6th row, CH 3, SC in CH-1 sp to left on 5th row, rep from * across. Fasten off.

BALL FRINGE ROW: 
Join A at beg of 2nd M row before border, * CH 2, SC in next SC of M row, CH 4, [yo hk, pull up lp in 4th CH from hk] 3 times, YO & thru 6 lps, YO & thru rem 2 lps, SC in same CH, SC in next SC on M row, CH 2, SC in next SC on M row, rep from * across. Fasten off.

Rep ball fringe row across 12th row of border.

FINISHING:
Sew back seam.

CORD:
With 2 strands MC, make CH approx 66” long.

Weave thru M patt row at waist. Tie ends.

BLOUSE:
BACK:
Beg at lower edge, with #I hk & MC, CH 76 [82].

Work in M patt on 25 [27] M for 12” or needed length to underarm.

Piece should meas 16 ½” [18 ½”].

SHAPE ARMHOLES:
Sl st across 1st 2 M, CH 2, work in patt to last 2 M, CH  3, turn.

DEC ROW: Pull up lp in each of 1st 2 M, YO hk & thru 3 lps on hk, CH 2, work in patt to last 3 M, CH 2, pull up lp in each of next 2 M, YO & thru 3 lps on hk, CH 2, SC in last sp = 19 [21] M. Turn.

Work even in M patt until armholes meas 3” [3 ½”] above 1st row of armhole shaping.

SHAPE NECK & SHOULDERS:
Work 6 [7] M. Turn.

NEXT ROW: Sl st across 1st M, CH 2, SC in next M, finish row = 5 [6] M. Turn.

Work even in patt until armhole meas 7” [7 ½”] above 1st row of armhole shaping. Fasten off.

Sk 6 M on last long row, join MC in next M, CH 2, finish row = 6 [7] M.

NEXT ROW: Work 5 [6] M. Turn.
Compl as for 1st shoulder. Fasten off.

FRONT:
Work same as back.

FINISHING:
Sew shoulder & side seams.

EDGING:
With #H hk & MC, from RS, beg at shoulder, work 1 row SC around neck edge,
BE CAREFUL to keep work flat.  Join with sl st in 1st SC; DO NOT turn.

2ND RND: SC in next SC, * CH 3, SC in 3rd CH from hk [picot made], sk next SC, SC in next SC, rep from * around, join with sl st in 1st SC. Fasten off.

Work same edging around armholes.

CORD:
With 2 strands MC, work 56” CH.

Lace thru patt below edging around neck edge; tie ends.
