Vintage 1970s Evelynne Classic Lace Suit #1315

White openwork crochet gives an airy effect of delicate lace to dress up a classic cardigan & skirt ensemble. This lovely suit would be lovely for a wedding ensemble. The skirt can be lengthened to midi or maxi…your choice, your style.
SIZE:
Small [8-10] & Medium [12-14].
Directions are for size Small with changes for Medium in brackets.
NOTE: Needles & measurements determine size.
MEASUREMENTS:
Body Bust: 31 ½”-32 ½” [34”-36”]
Finished Bust [Closed]: 35” [36 ½”]
MATERIALS:
Unger Dolly, 40 gr Ball: Jacket – 9; Skirt – 8
1 Aluminum Crochet Hook #E/1-2 [Small]
1 Aluminum Crochet Hook #F/3-4 [Medium]

GAUGE/TENSION:
Carefully follow measurements in directions.
JACKET:
BODY:
Beg at lower edge of back & fronts, CH 130 to meas 34 ½” [36”].
1ST ROW: SC in 2nd CH from hk & in each CH across = 129 SC. Turn each row.
2ND ROW: CH 4 [count as 1 DC], sk 1st SC, DC in next SC, sk next 2 SC, * shell of 2 DC, CH 1, 2 DC in next SC, CH 3, sk next 4 SC, DC, CH 5, DC all in next SC [V st], Ch 3, sk next 4 SC, rep from * across, end shell in next SC, sk next 2 SC, DC in each of last 2 SC.

DIVIDE WORK:
RIGHT FRONT YOKE:
Work 8th row of patt, CH 4, sk next DC, DC in next DC, work 8 shell patts & 2 DC [half shell] in CH-1 sp of next shell. Turn.
NEXT ROW: CH 4 [count as 1 DC], sk 1st DC, DC in next DC, [shell in CH-1 sp of next shell] twice, * CH 3, V st bet next 2 shells, CH 3, shell in CH-1 sp of next shell, rep from * across, end DC in last DC & in top of TCH.
Work in patt as establ, keep 2 shell patts & 2 DC at armhole edge for 6 rows more, end patt 8th row. Fasten off.
SHAPE NECK:
Beg at center edge, sk 1st 2 DC & 3 ½ shells; make lp on hk, work 1 DC in each of next 2 DC of 4th shell patt, work in patt across.
Work even in patt for 5 [6] rows, end patt 7th [8th] row, CH 1, turn.
NEXT ROW: SC in each st across. Fasten off.
BACK YOKE:
Work on last long row, beg at right front armhole edge, sk half shell, 1 compl shell & half shell for right underarm, join yarn in CH-1 sp, CH 4 [count as 1 DC], sk next DC, DC in next DC of half shell, work shell in CH-1 sp of next 15 shell patts, end DC in each of 2 DC of next shell. Turn.
Work in patt, keep 2 DC & 2 shell patts at each armhole edge.
Work even until armhole meas same as right front armhole, end patt 7th [8th] row. CH 1, turn.
NEXT ROW: SC in each st. Fasten off.
LEFT FRONT YOKE:
Work on last long row, beg at back armhole edge, sk half shell, 1 compl shell & half shell for left underarm, join yarn in CH-1 sp, CH 4 [count as 1 DC], sk next DC, DC in next DC of half shell, work in patt across.
Compl same as right front yoke, & reverse shaping.
SLEEVES:
Beg at lower edge, CH 40 loosely to meas 8 ½” [9”].
1ST ROW: SC in 2nd CH from hk & in each CH across = 39 SC.
Beg with patt 2nd row, work in patt, inc 1 DC each side every 2 ½” 5 [6] times, work inc sts in DC = 7 [8] DC each side.
Work even until piece meas same as back to underarm, end patt 7th row.
Piece should meas approx 15” [16”] from beg. CH 1, turn.
SHAPE CAP:
Sl st across 1st 3 sts, work to within last 3 sts. Turn.
Work 1 row even.
Dec 1 st each side of next 2 [3] rows = 2 DC each side.
Work 1 row even.
NEXT ROW: CH 4 [count as 1 DC], sk 1st 2 DC [dec], work in patt across, end sk 1 DC, DC in top of TCH.
Leave off half shell each side of every row for 2 [1] rows, end patt 8th row.
Rep shell patt row 1 [2] times, & leave off half shell each side every row. Fasten off. 
FINISHING:
Sew shoulder & sleeve seams.
EDGING:
Work 2 rows Dc around neck edge, hold in to needed fit.
Work 1 row DC on each front edge, BE CAREFUL to keep work flat & have same # of sts on each edge.
Join yarn in lower left front edge; work from left to right, SC in each DC around fronts, neck & lower edge. Fasten off.
Sew sleeve seams; sew in sleeve placing sleeve seam at center underarm.
EDGING:
From RS, work 1 rnd DC around lower edge of sleeve.
DO NOT turn.
NEXT RND: From RS, work from left to right, SC in each DC around. Fasten off.
BUTTONS [MAKE 11]:
CH 3, work 6 SC in 2nd CH from hk.
2ND RND: 2 SC in each SC around. Insert buttonmold or scraps of yarn.
3RD RND: [SK next SC, SC in next SC] 6 times. Cut yarn & leave 10” end to thread thru needle; draw sts tog.
Sew buttons on left front edge evenly spaced; 1st button 1” above lower edge, last button ½” below neck edge.
Sps bet DC on right front edge form buttonholes.
SKIRT:
Beg at upper edge of back & front, CH 131 loosely to meas 34” [35 ½”].
1ST ROW: SC in 2nd CH from hk & in each CH across = 130 SC. Join with sl st into ring, BE CAREFUL not to twist row.
1ST RND: CH 4 [count as 1 DC], DC in 1st SC [half shell], * CH 3, sk next 4 SC, DC, CH 5, DC all in next SC [V st], CH 3, sk next 4 SC, shell of 2 DC, Ch 1, 2 DC in next SC, rep from * around, end sk next 4 SC, 2 DC in join st, CH 1, join with sl st to top of starting CH. DO NOT turn each rnd.
2ND RND: CH 4, DC in CH-1 sp before join [half shell], * CH 3, [cluster, CH 1] 4 times in CH-5 sp of V st, cluster in same CH-5 sp, CH 3, shell of 2 DC, CH 1, 2 DC in CH-1 sp of next shell, rep from * around, end half shell of 2 DC in CH-1 sp bet half shells, Ch 1, join with sl st to top of TCH.

Cont in patt as establ, work shell of 3 DC, CH 1, 3 DC instead of 2 DC, CH 1, 2 DC where establ & shell of 2 DC, CH 1, 2 DC for all other shell patts, for 16 rnds, end patt 7th rnd.
NEXT INC RND: Work patt 8th rnd, work shell of 4 DC, CH 1, 4 DC for shell in each CH-1 sp of shell & half shell of 4 DC at beg & end of rnd.
Cont in patt as establ, work shell of 4 DC, CH 1, 4 DC instead of 3 DC, CH 1, 3 DC where establ & shell of 2 DC, CH 1, 2 DC for all other patts for 13 rnds, end patt 7th rnd.
Rep last rnd once.
Piece should meas approx 21” in length.
If longer skirt is needed, rep last rnd for additional length.
NEXT RND: Work from left to right, from RS, SC in each st around. Fasten off.
FINISHING:
Work 1 rnd DC around upper edge. Join with wl st in 1st DC. Fasten off.
DRAWSTRING:
With dbl strand of yarn, make CH 52” long. 
Crochet 2 buttons as for jacket.
Draw string thru rnd of DC at waistline.
Sew button to each end of string.
