1960s Two-Tone Beret & Scarf Duo #1139
MATERIALS
Bernat Berella Germantown, 2 oz balls:
Beret: 1 each Main Color [MC] & Contrasting Color [CC]
Scarf: 3 each Main Color [MC] & Contrasting Color [CC]
1 Bernat-Aero Crochet Hook Size J
or Canadian Wool Crochet Hook #6 

GAUGE:

7 sc = 2”
9 rows = 2”

NOTE:
To make long dc, work loose dc thru 3 rows directly below.

BERET:
Start at center top & use MC, ch 2. 

1ST RND: Work 6 sc in 2nd ch from hk. 

2ND RND: 2 sc in each st = 12 sts. 

3RD RND: * 1 sc in next st, 2 sc in next st, rep from * 5 times more = 18 sts. 

4TH RND: Use CC, * 2 sc in next st, 1 sc in each of next 2 sts, rep from * 5 times more = 24 sts. 

5TH RND: Use CC, * 1 sc in each of next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st, rep from * 5 times more = 30 sts. 

6TH RND: Use CC, * 1 sc in each of next 4 sts, 2 sc in next st, rep from * 5 times more = 36 sts. 

7TH RND: Use MC, * work 1 long dc, 1 sc in each of next 6 sts, rep from * 5 times more = 42 sts. 

8TH RND: Use MC, * 2 sc in next st, 1 sc in each of next 6 sts, rep from * 5 times more  = 48 sts. 

9TH RND: Use MC, * 2 sc in next st, 1 sc in each of next 7 sts, rep from * 5 times more = 54 sts. 

10TH RND: Use CC, 1 sc in each of next 6 sts, * 1 long dc, 1 sc in each of next 9 sts, rep from * 5 times more = 60 sts. 

11TH RND: Use CC, * 2 sc in next st, 1 sc in next 9 sts, rep from * 5 times more = 66 sts. 

12th Rnd: Use CC, * 2 sc in next st, 1 sc in each of next 10 sts, rep from * 5 times more = 72 sts. 

13TH RND: Use MC, * 1 long dc, 1 sc in each of next 6 sts, rep from * 11 times more = 84 sts. 

14TH & 15TH RNDS: Use MC, work in sc, inc 6 sts same as before on each rnd = 96 sts.

Use CC, work same as 13th Rnd, have 1 st more bet long dc sts =108 sts. 

17TH & 18TH RNDS: Use CC, work in sc, inc 6 sts same as before on each rnd = 120 sts. 

19TH RND: Use MC, work 1 long dc st bet dc sts of prev patt &, at the same time, dec 12 sts at even intervals. 

20TH & 21ST RNDS: Use MC, work in sc, dec 6 sts at even intervals = 108 sts, 

22ND, 23RD & 24TH RNDS: Use CC, rep 19th thru 21st Rnds. 

25TH, 26TH & 27TH RNDS: Use MC, rep 19th thru 21st Rnds. 

28TH, 29TH & 30TH RNDS: Rep 22nd thru 24th Rnds. 

31ST, 32ND & 33RD RNDS: Rep 25th thru 27th Rnds. Fasten off.

FINISHING:
Use both colors, make pompon & sew to center top.

SCARF:
Use MC, ch 33 sts. 

1ST ROW: 1 sc in 2nd st from hk, 1 sc in each st to end of ch = 32 sc. 

2ND ROW: Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each sc. 

3RD & 4TH ROWS: Rep 2nd Row. Break off MC.

Join CC thru lp on hk. 

5TH ROW: Use CC, ch 1, turn, * 1 sc in each of 6 sc, 1 long dc, rep from * 3 times more, 1 sc in each of last 6 sc. 

6TH, 7TH & 8TH ROWS: Rep 2nd Row. Break off CC. Join MC thru lp on hk. 

9TH ROW: Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each of 3 sc, * 1 long dc, 1 sc in each of 6 sc, rep from *, end 1 long dc, 1 sc in each of last 2 sc. 

10TH, 11TH & 12TH ROWS: Rep 2nd Row.

Rep 5th thru 12th Rows until there are 23 MC stripes. Fasten off.

FINISHING:
FRINGE:

Cut strands of yarn 12” long.

Use 3 strands each of MC & CC, knot in every 3rd st across each short edge.

Trim cut ends.

Steam.
