Vintage 1970s Mod Lace Empire Tunic #1275
SIZE:
Small [36”], Medium [40”] & Large [44”].
Directions are for Small with changes for Medium & Large in brackets.

MATERIALS:
Sport Yarn Weight:
Spinnerin Corky, 50 gm Balls: 9 [9-10]
OR
Sport, 2 oz Balls: 7 [7-8]
OR
Sabrina, 50 gm Balls: 9 [9-10]
OR
Startime, 40 gm Balls: 8 [8-9]
OR
Pippin, 50 gm Balls: 8 (8-9)
1 Boye Crochet Hook #G
OR
1 Diana Crochet Hook #H

GAUGE:
9 sts = 2”
2 rows = 1”

MEASUREMENTS:
Bust - Width at underarm = 36” [40”-44”]

PATTERN:
POPCORN STITCH [PC]:
In st, [YO, draw up long lp] 5 times, YO & thru 10 lps, YO & thru rem 2 lps.

1ST ROW [MESH PATT]: CH 4 [count as 1st DC & CH-1], sk 1 st, DC in next st, * CH 1, sk 1 st, DC in next st; rep from * to end.

2ND ROW [DC PATT]: CH 3 [count as 1st DC], DC in next st & each st to end.

3RD ROW [PC PATT]: CH 3 [count as 1st DC], PC in next st, * DC in next st, CH 1, sk 1 st, DC in next st, PC in next st; rep from * to end, DC in last st.

NOTE:
Sleeve & yoke are worked in 1 piece, beg at left sleeve edge & end at right sleeve edge.

Body is worked in 1 piece beg & end at center back.

SLEEVE & YOKE SECTION:
LEFT SLEEVE:
CH 82 [86-90].

FOUNDATION ROW: DC in 6th CH from hk, * CH 1, sk 1 CH, DC in next CH; rep from * to end = 39 [41-43] MESH; 40 [42-44] DC.

Beg with 1st patt row, work in MESH patt for 8 rows from beg.

Mark beg & end of next row for start of YOKE.

In MESH patt, work until 16 [18-20] rows from beg.

NECK: BACK:
In MESH patt, work 18 [19-20] MESH, DC in next DC, turn, DO NOT work across rem sts.

Work in patt over only these sts for 19 more rows. Drop work, DO NOT fasten off.

NECK: FRONT:
On last full row, sk 3 MESH after last back st, join yarn in next DC, CH 4, 

in MESH patt compl row.

Work in patt over only these sts for 19 more rows. Fasten off.

JOIN ROW:
Beg at lower back edge, work 18 [19-20] MESH across back sts, CH 5, work 18 [19-20] MESH across front sts, turn.

In MESH patt, work 7 [9-11] more rows.

Mark beg & end of next row for end of yoke.

Work in patt for 8 more rows. DO NOT fasten off.

Adjust patts, if needed, to make sts work out evenly.

RIGHT SLEEVE EDGING:
1ST ROW: Work 2nd patt row = 79 [83-87] DC.

2ND ROW: Work 3rd patt row.

3RD ROW: Work 2nd patt row.

4TH & 5TH ROWS: Work 1st patt row.

6TH ROW: Work 2nd patt row.

7TH ROW: Work 1st patt row.

8TH ROW: Work 3rd patt row.

9TH ROW: Work 1st patt row.

10TH ROW: Work 2nd patt row.

11TH – 14TH ROWS: Work 1st patt row.

15TH ROW: Work 2nd patt row.

16TH ROW: Work 3rd patt row.

LAST ROW [EDGING ROW]: * CH 4, sk 1 st, SC in next st; rep from * to end. Fasten off.

LEFT SLEEVE EDGING:
From RS, work along opp edge of foundation CH, beg with 1st row of right sleeve edging, work same as right sleeve edging.

BODY:
CH 82.

FOUNDATION ROW: DC in 6th CH from hk, * CH 1, sk 1 CH, DC in next CH; rep from * to end = 39 MESH; 40 DC.

Beg with row marked **, work backwards in patt & end with 1st patt row. Fasten off.

FINISHING:
Sew body tog at center back.

Sew sleeve seams to yoke markers.

LOWER BODY EDGING:
1ST ROW: [COUNT EACH ROW AS 2 STS.] From RS, join yarn to side of 1st row at center back, CH 3 [count as DC], rnd post of same row work PC, DC in side of next row, * CH 1, DC in side of next row, PC rnd post of same row, DC in side of next row; rep from * to end, join with sl st to top of starting CH.

2ND ROW: * CH 4, DC in next DC; rep from * to end. Fasten off.

LOWER YOKE EDGING:
1ST ROW: From RS beg at center back, work same as 1st row of lower body edging, Fasten off.

Sew body to yoke.

NECK EDGING:
Work same as yoke edging.

TIE:
Make CH to needed length, SC in 2nd CH from hk & each CH to end. Fasten off.

Having loose ends at center front, weave thru top of body.

Push all PCs to front.
