1960s Mod Gypsy Bag & Belt Set #1230
Fantastic accessory set. If you don’t like the look of the ties on the belt, try adding 2 or 3 buttons [depending on size] & button lps to freshen up the appearance.

MATERIALS:
American Thread Company Aunt Lydia's Heavy Rug Yarn, Skeins:

3 = Gray; 1 each Dk Green, Lt Yellow & Old Rose
1 Aluminum Crochet Hook #G or # H

BAG:
MOTIF:

With Yellow CH 2, SC in 2nd st from hk, * CH 3, SC in same sp, rep from * 6  times, CH 3, join in 1st SC, cut yarn.

2ND RND: Attach Rose in join, CH 3, 3 DC in same sp, drop lp from hk, insert in 3rd st of CH, pull lp thru, CH 1 to tighten st, * CH 2, POPCORN ST in next SC (POPCORN ST = PC ST: 4 DC in same st, drop lp from hk, insert in 1st DC, pull lp thru, CH 1 to tighten st), rep from * around, CH 2, join in 1st PC ST, cut yarn.

3RD RND: Attach Green in any CH 3 lp of 1st rnd, CH 3, 2 DC in same sp, * SC in next PC ST, 3 DC in next CH 3 lp of 1st rnd, rep from * 6 times, SC in next PC ST, join in 3rd st of CH.

4TH RND: Sl st in next DC, CH 3, DC in same sp, CH 1, 2 DC in same sp, sk next DC, SC in next SC, * sk 1 DC, 2 DC, CH 1, 2 DC in next DC (SHELL), sk next DC, SC in next SC, rep from * around, join in 3rd st of CH, cut yarn.

5TH RND: Attach Gray in any SC, CH 3, 2 DC in same sp, CH 3, 3 DC in same sp, * SC in CH 1 of next SHELL, 3 DC in next SC, SC in CH 1 of next SHELL, 3 DC, CH 3, 3 DC in next SC, rep from * twice, SC in CH 1 of next SHELL, 3 DC in next SC, SC in CH 1 of next SHELL, join in 3rd st of CH, cut yarn.

Work 4 more motifs in same way.

Sew all motifs tog on wrong side to form circle.

BOTTOM:
With Gray, ch 4, join to form ring, CH 1 & work 8 SC in ring, do not join or turn this or following rnds. Place marker beg of each rnd.

2ND RND: 2 SC in each SC.

3RD RND: * 1 SC in next SC, 2 SC in next SC, rep from * around.

4TH RND: Work in SC, inc in every 3rd SC.

5TH RND: Inc in every 4th SC.

6TH RND: Inc in every 5th SC.

NEXT RNDS: Cont work in same way until there are 7 sts bet inc points. Work 1 rnd even.

11TH RND: Inc in every 9th st.

NEXT RND: Work 1 rnd even, sl st in last st = 80 sts, 7½” diameter.

12TH RND: 1 SC in each st, work thru back lp of sts only, join, cut Gray.

13TH RND: Attach Green (when changing color, always attach next color in different place to avoid showing join) & work 1 SC in each SC, work thru both lps of sts, join, cut yarn.

Work in same way as last rnd, work 1 rnd Yellow, 1 rnd Rose, & 1 rnd Gray.

Sew to motif section.

Attach Gray in any st at top of motifs & work 80 SC around, join, cut yarn.

Work in same way as 13th rnd, work 1 rnd Rose, 1 rnd Yellow, 1 rnd Green, & 1 rnd Gray, do not cut Gray.

NEXT RND: BEADING: CH 5, sk 1 SC, TRC in next SC, * CH 1, sk 1 SC, TRC in next SC, rep from * around end with CH 1, join in 4th st of CH.

NEXT RND: SC in same sp, * SC over next CH 1, SC in next TRC, rep from * around ending with SC over next CH 1, join.

NEXT RND: CH 1, * SC in next SC, SDC in next SC (SDC: YO hk, insert in st, pull lp thru, YO & work off all lps at 1 time), DC in next SC, DC in same SC, SDC in next SC, SC in next SC, rep from * around, join, cut yarn.

Cut cardboard [or stiff plastic] circle little smaller than bottom of bag.

Place inside of bag.

DRAW STRING:
With Gray work CH about 30”, sl st in 2nd st from hk, then sl st in each rem st, cut yarn.

Work 2nd string in same way.

Lace thru beading, lacing over 2 TRC & under next 2 TRC.

Lace other draw string in same way, start from opposite side.

Sew ends of draw string tog.

BELT:
With Gray work CH desired length, SC in 2nd st from hk, 1 SC in each rem st of CH, have mul­tiple of 3 plus 1, cut yarn, turn (this should meas about 1” smaller than waistline).

2ND ROW: Attach Yellow & work 1 SC in each SC, cut yarn, turn.

3RD ROW: Attach Green & work 1 SC in each SC, cut yarn, turn.

4TH ROW: Attach Old Rose, CH 3, 3 DC in same sp, sl lp off hk, insert in 3rd st of CH, pull lp thru, CH 1 to tighten st, * CH 2, sk 2 SC, PC ST in next st, rep from * across row, cut yarn, turn.

5TH ROW: Attach Green in 1st PC ST, SC in same sp, * 2 SC in next lp, SC in next PC ST, rep from * across row, cut yarn, turn.

6TH ROW: Attach Yellow & work 1 SC in each SC, cut yarn, turn.

7TH ROW: Attach Gray & work 1 SC in each SC, cut yarn, turn.

Attach Gray at 1 corner of belt & work CH about 4½” long, cut yarn.

Attach Yellow in same sp & work 1 sl st in each st of CH, cut yarn.

Work 2nd tie of Rose & Green at center of belt in same way.

Work 3rd tie of Gray & Yellow at other corner in same way.

Work 3 more ties on opposite end of belt in same way.
