1957 Crochet Tuxedo Sweater

Back: With G hook ch 67 [71, 75], about 19” [20“,
21“], sc in 2nd st from hook, 1 sc in each remaining st of ch, ch 1,
turn.
2nd
row: 1 Sc in each sc, ch 1, turn.
Rep
the 2nd row until Back measures 15” [15 ¼”, 15 ½”] from beg or
length desired to underarm, ch 1 to turn all rows.
Armholes: Sl st across 1st 5 sts, 1 sc in
each sc to within last 5 sts.
Next
3 rows: Dec 1 st at beg & end of each row.
Work
even on 50 [54, 58] sts until armholes measure 8” [8 ½”, 8 ¾”].
Next
row: Shoulders: Sl st across 6 [7, 8] sts, work across row to
within last 6 [7, 8] sts, ch 1, turn.
Next
row: Sl st across 5 [5, 5] sts, work across
row to within last 5 [5, 5] sts, ch 1, turn.
Next
row: Sl st across 5 [5, 5] sts, work across
row to within last 5 [5, 5] sts, cut yarn.
Right
Front: With #G hook ch 34 [36,
38] & work same as Back until Front measures 15” [15 ¼”, 15 ½”].
Next
row: Start armhole: Sl st across 5 [5, 5] sts, 1 sc in each
remaining st, ch 1, turn.
Next
3 rows: Dec 1 st at armhole
side each row.
Work
even for 2”.
Next
row: Keeping armhole even dec 1 st at front
edge, then dec 1 st at front edge every other row until 16 [17, 18] sts
remain.
Work
even until armhole measures same as back armholes ending at armhole side.

row: Sl st across 6 [7, 8] sts, work to end
of row.
Next
row: 1 Sc in each of next 5 [5, 5] sts, cut
yarn.
Left
Front: Work same as Right
Front reversing all shaping.
Sleeves: With #G hook ch 43 [45, 47], sc in 2nd
st from hook, 1 sc in each remaining st of ch, ch 1, turn.
2nd
row: 1 Sc in each sc, ch 1, turn.
Repeat
the 2nd row 3 times.
Next
row: Inc 1 sc at beg & end of row, then
inc 1 sc at beg & end of every 9th row 4 more times.
Work
even until sleeve measures 12” [12 ½”, 12 ½”] from beg or length desired.
Next
row: Sl st across 5 [5, 5] sts, work to
within last 5 [5, 5] sts, ch 1, turn.
Dec
1 st at beg of each row until 20 [22, 24] sts remain.
Next
2 rows: Dec 1 st at beg &
end of each row, cut yarn.
Press
each section under a damp cloth.
Sew
underarm & shoulder seams.
Sew
sleeve seams & sew sleeves in position.
Tuxedo
Collar: With right side of work
toward you & #F hook attach yarn at lower edge of right Front & work 82
[84, 86] sc up Front, 1 sc in each sc around back of neck & 82 [84, 86] sc
down opposite side of Front, ch 1, turn.
2nd
row: Working thru back loop of sts, work 1 sc
in each sc, ch 1, turn.
3rd
row: Working thru both loops of sts, yo,
insert in 1st sc & pull up a ½” loop on hook, yo, insert in same
space & pull up a loop same length, yo & work off all loops at one
time, * 1 dc in next sc, yo, insert in next st, pull up a ½” loop, yo, insert
in same st, pull up a ½” loop, yo & work off all loops at one time [puff
st], rep from * up Front of collar, around neck & down opposite side, ch 1,
turn.
4th
row: Working thru both loops of sts, work 1
sc in each st, ch 1, turn.
5th
row: Same as 3rd row.
6th
row: 1 Sc in each st inc in every 3rd
st around back of neck.
7th
row: Same as 3rd row.
8th
row: 1 Sc in each st.
Rep
the last 2 rows once.
11th
row: Pocket: Puff st in 1st sc, * dc in next sc,
puff st in next sc, rep from * 8 times, ch 1, turn.
12th
row: 1 Sc in each st, ch 1, turn.
Rep
the last 2 rows 9 times or until pocket reaches to side seam of jacket, cut
yarn leaving an end.
Thread
into needle & sew to side seam.
Work
other pocket to correspond.
With
right side of work toward you & #F hook attach yarn at lower left hand side
of Front, working thru both thicknesses work a row of sc across pocket, lower
edge of back & across other front & pocket.
Cuffs: With right side of sleeve toward you & #F
hook attach yarn at seam at lower edge of sleeve & work 1 sc in each st all
around, join, ch 1, turn.
2nd
row: Working thru back loop of sts work 1 sc
in each sc, join, ch 1, turn.
Rep
the 3rd & 4th rows of collar 4 times, cut yarn.
Finish
other sleeve in same manner.
Using
a running st starting at top of pocket st down to lower edge to separate pocket
from collar.
