Free Pattern - 1955 Infant’s Ripple Knit 3-Piece Set #B216

1955 Infant’s Ripple Knit 3-Piece Set #B216
MATERIALS:
5 oz 3-Ply Baby Yarn, OR Nylon
1 Pair Knitting Needles #4
2 Stitch Holders

GAUGE:
2 Patterns = 3 1/4”

PATTERN:
1ST ROW: K3, *  YO, K4, K2TOG twice; K4, YO, K1; rep from * across row, end with YO, K last 3 sts.

2ND ROW: K3, P across to within last 3 sts, K3.

3RD ROW: K.

Rep these 3 rows for patt.

SWEATER:
NOTE: SWEATER IS MADE IN 1 PIECE UP TO UNDERARM.

Cast on 161 sts & K 4 rows.

Now work in patt until piece meas 6” total, end with 3rd row of patt.

DEC ROW: K9, * K2TOG, K5; rep from * to within last 10 sts, K10 sts = 140 sts.

NEXT ROW: K.

SEPARATIONS: K38 & leave on needle; place next 64 sts for back onto stitch holder; rem 38 sts for front onto another st holder.

FRONT:
On sts that are on needle, K every row until armhole meas 2 ¼” above underarm.

NECK SHAPING:
At front edge, bind off 11 sts once; work to armhole.

Dec 1 st at neck edge every other row 6 times.

Work until armhole meas 3 ¼” total. Bind off all sts LOOSELY.

2ND FRONT:
Place 38 sts off st holder onto needle; tie yarn in & work to corres to 1st front.

BACK:
Place 64 sts off st holder onto needle; tie yarn in & K until armhole meas 3 ¼” total.

Bind off all sts.

SLEEVES:
Cast on 57 sts & K 4 rows.

Now work in patt until sleeve meas 7” total, end with 3rd row.

K 3 rows.

Bind off all sts LOOSELY on next row.

Make 2nd sleeve in same way.

FINISHING:
Sew shoulders tog.

Sew up sleeves & sew them into armhole, MATCH UNDERARMS.

NECK BAND:
RIGHT SIDE:
Pick up & K 71sts around neck edge.

K 1 row.

BEADING ROW:
K 2, * YO, K2TOG; K1, rep from * across row, end with YO, K2TOG, K1.

K 2 rows. Bind off all sts.

BONNET:
Start at front edge, cast on 83 sts.

K 4 rows.

Work in patt until piece meas 4 ½” total, end with 3rd row.

FROM NOW ON K EVERY ROW.

1ST DEC: * K10, K2TOG; rep from * across row.

K next row.

2ND DEC: * K9, K2TOG; rep from * across row.

K next row.

3RD DEC: * K8, K2TOG; rep from * across row.

K next row.

4TH DEC: * K7, K2TOG; rep from * across row.

K next row.

5TH DEC: * K6, K2TOG; rep from * across row.

K next row.
6TH DEC: * K5, K2TOG; rep from * across row.

K next row.

7TH DEC: * K4, K2TOG; rep from * across row.

K next row.

8TH DEC: * K3, K2TG; rep from * across row.

K next row.

9TH DEC: * K2, K2TOG; rep from * across row.

K next row.

10TH DEC: * K1, K2TOG; rep from * across row.

K next row.

LAST DEC: K2TOG across row. Break yarn & leave 12”.

Thread darning needle & draw thru rem sts & fasten tightly on WRONG 

SIDE.
Sew up garter st part.

NECK BAND:
RIGHT SIDE:
Pick up & K 54 sts around neck.

K 1 row.

BEADING ROW: K2, * YO, K2TOG, K1; rep from .* across row.

K 2 rows. Bind off LOOSELY.

Trim with ribbon.

BOOTIES:
Cast on 44 sts & K 4 rows.

Now work in patt until piece meas 2 ½” total, & end with 3rd row of patt.

K next row.

BEADING ROW:
K 2, * YO, K2TOG, K1; rep from * across row, & end with YO, K2TOG, K1.

K next row.

INSTEP:
K16 & place onto st holder, K12 & leave on needle; place rem 16 sts onto 2nd st holder.

On these 12 sts, K 19 rows. Break yarn.

Place sts off 1st st holder onto free needle, tie yarn in near instep; pick up & K10 sts along side of instep; K across 12 steps, pick up & K10 sts along 2nd side of instep, K16 sts off 2nd st holder = 64 sts.

K 3 rows.

1ST DEC: K1, K2TOG, K21, K2TOG, K12, K2TOG, K21, K2TOG, K1.

K 3 rows.

2ND DEC: K1, K2TOG, K19, K2TOG, K12, K2TOG, K19, K2TOG, K1.

K 3 rows.

3RD DEC: K1, K2TOG, K17, K2TOG, K12, K2TOG, K17, K2TOG, K1.

K 1 row. Bind off all sts.

Sew back & sole of bootie.
