Vintage 1955 Infant’s Lace Sweater 3-Piece Set #B217

MATERIALS:
5 oz 3-Ply Baby Yarn, OR Nylon
1 Plastic Crochet Hook #3

GAUGE:
2 Shell Rows = 1”

SWEATER:
YOKE:
Start at neck edge, make
LOOSE CH of 85 sts;; 1 DC in 3rd st from hk & in each rem CH [83 sts & turning CH make 84 sts]. CH 3, turn.

NOTE: IN WORKING YOKE PICK UP BACK LP OF ST ON ROW BELOW.

2ND ROW: Make * 1 DC in next 2 sts, 2 DC in next st; rep from * across row = 27 incs. CH 3, turn.

3RD ROW: Make 1 DC in each st across row = 111 sts. CH 3, turn.

4TH ROW: Make * 1 DC in next 3 sts, 2 DC in next st; rep from * across row = 27 incs. CH 3, turn.

5TH ROW: Make 1 DC in each st across row. CH 3, turn.

6TH ROW: Make * 1 DC in next 6 sts, 2 DC in next st; rep from * across row = 19 incs. CH 3, turn.

7TH ROW: Make 1 DC in each st across row = 157 sts. CH 3, turn.

8TH ROW: Make * 1 DC in next 7 sts, 2 DC in next st; rep from * 17 times more = 18 incs, DC to end of row. CH 3, turn.

9TH & 10TH ROWS: Make 1 DC in each st across row = 175 sts.

FOUNDATION ROW:
1ST ROW: CH 4, turn, * sk 2 sts, in next st make 4 DC with CH 2 bet each DC [
SHELL]; rep from * across row, end with 1 DC in last st = 57 shells. CH 4, turn.

2ND ROW: * In center CH-2 sp off shell, make 4 DC with CH-2 bet each DC *; rep bet *s 7 times more = 8 shells for front, CH 3, sk 13 shells for sleeve; rep bet *s 15 times for back; CH 3, sk 13 shells for 2nd sleeve; rep bet *s 8 times, end with DC in top of turning CH. CH 4, turn.

3RD ROW: Make shell in center sp of shell on row below & 1 shell on CH-3 at underarm = 33 shells in compl row. CH 4, turn.

4TH ROW: Make shell in center sp of shell on row below. CH 4, turn.

Rep 4th row until piece meas 6” from end of yoke. Break yarn.

SLEEVES:
Tie yarn in center of CH-3 at underarm. CH 4, in next sp make shell & 1 shell in each of 13 shells of sleeve, 1 shell in next sp, 1 DC in same sp as 1st CH-4 = 15 shells.

Work back & forth in patt until sleeve meas 4 ½” from edge of yoke.

CUFF:
CH 1, turn; 1 SC in top of DC, * 2 SC in center CH-2 sp of shell, 1 SC in sp bet 2 shells; rep from * across row, end with SC in top of turning CH = 46 SC. CH 1, turn.

2ND, 3RD & 4TH ROWS: Make 1 SC n each st. CH 4, turn.

Work 1 row of shell, sk 3 SC bet shells. Break yarn.

Sew up sleeve seam.

Make 2nd sleeve in same way.

BONNET:
CH 4, make 11 DC into 4th CH from hk. Join with sl st to top of CH-4.

NOTE: FROM NOW ON PICK UP BACK LP ON ROW BELOW.

2ND RND: CH 3, turn, DC in same place as sl st, 2 DC in each st around = 24 DC. Join.

3RD RND: CH 3, turn, DC in same place as sl st, * DC in next st, 2 DC in next st; rep from * around = 36 DC. Join.

4TH RND: CH 3, turn, DC in same place as sl st, * DC in next 2 sts, 2 DC in next st; rep from * around = 48 DC. Join.

5TH, 6TH & 7TH RNDS: Rep 4th rnd, have 1 more st bet each inc = 12 incs on rnd.

At end of 7th rnd, you should have 84 DC. Join.

CH 1, sl st in next 7 sts.

1ST ROW: CH 4, sk 2 sts, in next st make shell, * sk 3 sts, in next st make shell; rep from * 15 times more = 17 shells total; sk 1 st, 1 DC in next st. CH 4, turn.

Now work in patt as on sweater until piece meas 4 ½” from last row of DC. Break yarn.

Turn back 1” at front of bonnet. Tack down at each side.

NECK BAND:
Tie yarn at corner of 1 front. Work along neck edge, make 64 SC, CH 1, turn.

Make 3 rows of SC. Break yarn.

BOOTIES:
INSTEP & SOLE:
CH 10 sts, turn, 1 SC in 2nd st from hk & in each of next 8 CH sts. CH 1, turn.

Make 1 SC in each of 9 sts.

Rep last row 7 times more.

CH 35 sts for ankle; join with sl st to opp corner, make 9 SC along side of instep, 9 SC across toe, 9 SC along 2nd side of instep, 1 DC in each of 35 CH sts = 62 SC. Mark beg of rnd.

Work around in SC for 9 more rnds. Break yarn.

TOP PART:
Tie yarn at 18th CH st at back part of bootie. Make 1 SC in each st around = 44 SC. Do not join. CH 4, turn.

*Sk 3 sts, 1 shell in next st, rep from * around, end with 1 DC in last st = 10 shells. CH 4, turn.

Work in same patt as on sweater for 2 ½”. Break yarn.

Sew up back & sole of bootie.

Make 2nd bootie in same way.
