1955 Infant’s Cross Stitch Sweater 3-Piece Set #B218

MATERIALS:
5 oz Baby Yarn 3-Ply
OR
5 oz Nylon 3-Ply
1 Bone Crochet Hook #3
1 Steel Crochet Hook #1
1 Ball Trimming Silk [APPROX 125 YDS]

SWEATER:
BACK:
Start at lower edge of back & #3 hk, CH 62, turn, 1 SC in 2nd st from hk, 1 SC in each of rem CH st = 61 SC.

PATTERN:
1ST ROW: CH 3, turn; * sk 1, 1 DC in next 2 sts, 1 DC into sk st; rep from *  across row, end with 1 DC in last st. CH 1, turn.

2ND ROW: 1 SC in each DC across row [DO NOT PUT SC IN TOP OF TURNING CH].

Rep these 2 rows for patt.

Work in patt until piece meas 6”, or length needed up to underarm, end with SC row.

NEXT ROW: CH 1, turn; work across row in SC, dec 10 sts across row = 51 sts; CH 33 sts at end of this row for sleeve.

Attach separate piece of yarn in top of turning CH-1 at opp end of row, CH 32 for sleeve. Break yarn.

Pick up main yarn & work 1 SC in 2nd st from hk, 1 SC in each CH st, 1 SC in each st across back, 1 SC in each of 32 sts of 2nd sleeve = 115 sts. CH 1, turn.

Work in SC [ST FOR ST] until sleeve meas 3 ¼”. Break yarn.

RIGHT FRONT:
CH 35 sts, turn, 1 SC in 2nd st from hk, 1 SC in each rem CH st.

Now work in patt until piece meas same as back up to underarm, end with SC row. CH 1, turn.

Work across row dec to 28 sts, very loosely CH 33 [FOR SLEEVE], turn, 1 SC in 2nd CH from hk, 1 SC in each of rem CH sts, 1 SC in each st across row.

Work 5 rows of SC.

Work in SC, dec 1 st at neck edge every row until 42 sts rem.

Work even until sleeve meas same as back one. Break yarn.

LEFT FRONT:
Work to corres to right front.

CUFF:
Sew shoulder seams.

USE #3 HK, hold wrong side facing, make 50 SC across sleeve edge, CH 1, turn.

Work in patt until 3 rows of patt have been compl, end with SC row.

Make 2nd cuff in same way.

Sew sleeve & side seams.

EDGING:
[RIGHT SIDE]:
Tie yarn at bottom of left hand corner, make 1 row of SC around sweater, keep work flat. Break yarn.

USE #3 HK.

Tie in silk, * 1 SC in next 4 sts, CH 3, sl st back into 1st CH [PICOT]; rep from * around sweater.

Do same picot row at cuffs.

BONNET:
USE #3 HK.
Start at center back: CH 3, join with sl st to form ring. 6 SC into ring.

2ND RND: 2 SC in each st around.

3RD RND:[MARK BEG OF RND] 1 SC in next st, 2 SC in next st; rep around oonce.

4TH RND: 1 SC in next 2 sts, 2 SC in next st, rep around once.

Keep inc 6 sts on rnd, have 1 more st bet each inc until you have 14 sts bet incs = 86 sts.

CH 1, turn; make 1 SC in each of next 79 sts [REM 17 STS ARE BACK OF NECK]; CH 3, turn.

Work in patt until piece meas 4 ½” from last SC row, end with SC row.

USE #1 HK & silk, make 1 row of picot across front edge. Fasten off.

Turn back 1”at front of bonnet & tack down at each side.

NECK BAND:
USE #3 HK, tie yarn at edge of front, work in SC along side front, across back, across 2nd front [APPROX 67 SC]. CH 1, turn.

Work 3 rows of SC. Break yarn & fasten off.

BOOTIES:
INSTEP & SOLE:
CH 10, turn, 1 SC in 2nd st from hk, 1 SC in each of rem CH-8 sts. CH 1, turn.

Work in SC for 8 more rows.

CH 28 VERY LOOSELY for ankle; join with sl st to opp corner.

Make 9 SC along side of instep, 9 SC across toe, 9 SC along 2nd side of instep, 1 SC in each of 28 CH sts = 55 sts.

Mark beg of rnd, as aid in counting.

Work 10 rows of SC. Break yarn.

TOP PART:
Join yarn at center of back.

Work in patt until piece meas 2 ½”, end with SC row. Break yarn.

Sew up back & sole of bootie.

Use silk, make 1 row of picot across top.

Make 2nd bootie in same way.
