Vintage 1952 Miss Mississippi Doll #611


A clever woman very quickly & easily will create this exquisite doll in a delightful gown, with handkerchief, headband, petticoat & panties…which will become a personal favorite to keep or gift to that special person!

MATERIALS:
J & P COATS KNIT-CRO-SHEEN, Art #A64, 2 balls of Blue, &
J & P COATS or CLARKS ONT PEARL COTTON, Art #A or #B19, Size 5: 1 ball of Lavender, &
CLARKS ONT. BEST SIX CORD MERCERIZED CROCHET, Art #B4, Size 50: 1 ball of White
Few yds each of Shaded Pink & Green Mercerized Crochet
#7 & # 12 Steel Crochet Hooks
Hooks & Eyes
Snap Fasteners
Doll 7 ½” tall; waist 4 ¾”
Bias Binding

SKIRT: 
Start at waist with Blue & # 7 hook, make ch to reach loosely around doll's waist.

1st rnd:  2 Dc in 4th ch from hk & in each ch across.  Join with sl st to top of starting ch.

2nd & 3rd rnds:  Ch 3, dc in each dc around.  Join.

4th & 5th rnds:  Ch 3, * dc in next 5 dc, 2 dc in next dc.  Rep from * around.  Join.

6th rnd:  Work as for 2nd rnd.

7th & 8th rnds:  Work as for 4th & 5th rnds. 

Rep 2nd rnd until Skirt meas 4” in all.

Next 2 rnds:  Work as for 4th & 5th rnds. 

Cont work as for 2nd rnd until Skirt meas 5” in all.  Break off.

BODICE: 
1st row:  Attach Blue to opposite side of starting ch at waist, ch 3, dc in each ch across.  Ch 3, turn.

2nd & 3rd rows:  Sk 1st dc, dc in each dc across & in top of turning ch.  Ch 3, turn.  Break off at end of 3rd row.

BODICE TRIM: 
With Lavender make ch 1 ½ times width around shoulders.

1st row:  Dc in 4th ch from hk & in each ch across.  Break off. 

Gather both long edges to fit around shoulders. 

With Lavender make another strip 6” long. 

Gather slightly & sew to front of dress. 

Sew shoulder piece in place.

SCALLOPS: 
With Lavender make ch 19” long.

1st row:  Sc in 2nd ch from hk, * hdc in next ch, dc in next ch, 2 dc in next ch, tr in next ch, 2 tr in next ch, tr in next ch, 2 dc in next ch, dc in next ch, hdc in next ch, sc in next ch, draw up lp in each of next 3 ch, yo & draw thru all lps on hk, sc in next ch.  Rep from * across.  Break off.

Make another strip of scallops 24” long.

RUFFLE: 
With White & #12 hk, make ch 19” long.

1st row:  Sc in 2nd ch from hk, * ch 5, sk next 2 ch.  Rep from * across, having number of lps divisible by 3.  Ch 5, turn.

2nd row:  Sc in 1st lp, * ch 5, sc in next lp.  Rep from * across.  Ch 6, turn.

3rd row:  Sc in 1st lp, * ch 2, sc in next lp, (pull lp on hk out to meas 14”, yo & draw lp thru, insert hk bet single & double lps & draw lp thru, yo & draw thru 2 lps on hk [knot st made] make another knot st, sc in same lp--knot st lp made) 3 times; ch 2, sc in next lp, ch 6, sc in next lp.  Rep from * across, end with ch 2, make 3 knot st lps in next lp, ch 2, dc in next lp.  Ch 1, turn.

4th row:  Sc in 1st dc, * make 1 knot st, (sc in knot at center of next knot st lp, ch 5) twice; sc in knot at center of next knot st lp, make 1 knot st, sc in next ch-6 lp.  Rep from * across.  Ch 1, turn.

5th row:  Sc in 1st sc, * ch 5, sc in next sc, (ch 6, sl st in 3rd ch from hk--picot made--ch 3, sc in next lp) twice; ch 3, picot, ch 3, sc in next sc.  Rep from * across.  Break off.

Make another ruffle 24” long.

HANDKERCHIEF: 
With White, ch 17.

1st row:  Sc in 2nd ch from hk, * ch 5, sc in next ch.  Rep from * across.  Ch 5, turn.

2nd thru 5th rows:  Rep 2nd to 5th rows incl of Ruffle.

HAIR BAND: 
With Lavender make ch long enough to reach around head.

FLOWER: 
With Green & #12 hk, ch 2, sc in 2nd ch from hk, (ch 6, sc in same ch) twice.  Break off.

Attach Pink to same ch & make 4 more lps same way.  Break off.

Make flower for base of each scallop & 4 for band on hair. 

Sew snap fasteners to back opening. 

Sew scallops, ruffles & flowers in place. 

Gather inner edge of handkerchief & tie to wrist.

PETTICOAT: 
Cut strip of 6“ crinoline hemline binding 18” long. 

Gather across 1 long side to fit around doll's waist. 

Sew back seam, leave 1“ opening at top. 

Sew bias binding around top. 

Sew hook & eye at back. 

Turn up hem to correspond with length of skirt.

PANTIES: 
Start at waist make ch long enough to reach around widest part of doll.  Join, be careful not to twist.

1st thru 4th rnds:  Ch 3, dc in each st around.  Join.

FOR 11“ DOLLS WORK 9 RNDS (INSTEAD OF 4 RNDS). 

Ch 4 for crotch & sl st directly opposite.  Break off. 

Draw cord thru sts of 1st rnd.
