Vintage 1950s Evening Beaded V-Neck Blouse #661


A skillful needlewoman will swiftly knit this charming sweater with it‘s slimming, deep V-necked design, accented with silver beads & rhinestones…A delightful, addition to the well-dressed woman‘s wardrobe!

SIZES: 
12, 14, & 16. 
Directions are given for size 12, with changes for sizes 14, & 16 in brackets.

Materials: 
J & P Coats Knit-Cro-Sheen Metallic, Art 64, 5 [6, 7] balls of blue
Coats & Clarks ONT Speed-Cro-Sheen Mercerized Cotton, Art 44, 7 [8, 9] balls of blue sparkle
Pair each #1 [2 ½ mm] & #3 [3 mm] Plastic Knitting Needles
OR
Chadwicks Red Heart Knitting Worsted, 4-ply, 1 oz  - `12 [14, 15] skeins of blue
Pair each #4 [3 ½ mm] & #5 [3 ¾ mm] Plastic Knitting Needles
7” Zipper for Neck openings
2 pkgs Silver Beads & 1 String of Rhinestones

NOTE: 
When working with Speed-Cro-Sheen & Knit-Cro-Sheen Metallic, use 1 ball of each thread together thru out.  

When working with Knitting Worsted, use yarn single thru out.

GAUGE:  
5 ½ sts = 1”;  
8 rows = 1”

MEASUREMENTS:  
Bust 32” [34”, 36”]; 
Width across back at underarm 16” [17”, 18”];  
Length from shoulder to lower edge 16 ½” [17 ½”, 18 ½”]

BACK: 
Starting at lower edge with #1 needles & 1 ball each of Speed-Cro-Sheen & Knit-Cro-Sheen Metallic [or #4 needles & 1 strand of Knitting Worsted], cast on 76 [80, 84] sts. 

Work in ribbing of k 2, p2 for 2”, inc 1 st at end of last row. 

Change to #3 needles [or #5 for KW] & work in patt as follows:

1ST ROW:  With SCS only [or KW], k across.

2ND ROW:  With SCS [or KW], p across.

3RD & 4TH ROWS:  Rep 1st & 2nd rows.

5TH ROW:  Change to #1 needles & with 1 strand each thread [or #4 needles & KW], work as follows:  k 1, * p 1, k 1.  Rep from * across.

6TH THRU 10TH ROWS:  Rep 5th row.

Last 10 rows make patt. 

Work in patt, inc 1 st at both ends of next row & every 6th row thereafter until there are on needle 89 [95, 99] sts. 

Work without inc until piece meas in all 10” [10 ½”, 11”].

SHAPE SLEEVES: 
Cast on 5 [5, 3] sts at beg of next 2 [2, 4] rows. 

There are on needle 99 [105, 111] sts. 

Place marker & work in patt until piece meas 2 ½” from marker.

SHAPE NECK: 
With right side of work facing, work in patt across first 49 [52, 55] sts, bind off next st [center st], work in patt across next 49 [52, 55] sts. 

Turn & work in patt over last set of sts only, dec 1 st at neck edge every other row until there rem 39 [38, 37] sts. 

Now dec 1 st at neck edge every row until there rem, ending at sleeve edge 27 [30, 33] sts.

SHAPE TOP OF SLEEVE & SHOULDER: 
Bind off 9 [10, 11] sts at beg of next row & every other row 3 times in all.

Attach thread [or yarn] to opposite side of neck edge & work to correspond, reversing shapings.

FRONT: 
Work exactly as for Back until Sleeve Shaping has been completed. 
There are on needle 99 [105, 111] sts.

SHAPE NECK: 
With right side of work facing work in patt across first 49 [52, 55] sts, bind off next st [center st] & work in patt across next 49 [52, 55] sts. 

Turn & work in patt over last set of sts only, dec 1 st at neck edge every 3rd row until there rem 39 [36, 35] sts.

ON SIZE 12 ONLY:  
Dec 1 st at neck edge every other row until 27 sts rem;

ON SIZES 14 & 16:  
Dec 1 st at neck edge every row until 30 [33] sts rem; ending at sleeve edge.

SHAPE TOP OF SLEEVE & SHOULDER: 
Bind off 9 [10, 11] sts at beg of next row & every other row at same edge 3 times in all.

Attach thread [or yarn] to opposite side of neck edge & work to correspond, reversing shapings.

FRONT NECKBAND: 
Attach 1 ball of each thread to Left Shoulder. 

With #1 needles [or #4 needles & KW] & right side of work facing, pick up & knit to where sts were divided 60 [64, 68] sts, place marker, pick up & k 1 st at center of neck edge, place marker, pick up & k along other side of neck edge 60 [64, 68] sts. 

Work in ribbing as follows:
1ST ROW:  * P 2, k 2.  Rep from * to center st, sl marker, p 1, sl marker, ** k 2, p 2.   Rep from ** to end of row.

2ND ROW:  ** K 2, p 2.  Rep from * to 4 sts before marker, k 2, p 2 tog, sl marker, k 1, sl marker, p 2 tog, ** k 2, p 2.  Rep from ** to last 2 sts, k 2. 

Work in this manner, dec 1 st before & after markers on every other row until Front Neckband meas 1”. 

Bind off loosely in ribbing.

BACK NECKBAND: 
Work exactly as for Front Neckband, having 40 [44, 48] sts before & after markers when picking up sts.

SLEEVE BANDS: 
Sew up shoulder seams, incl neckband. 

With 1 ball of each thread & #1 needles [or #4 needles & KW] & right side of work facing, pick up & k around sleeve edge 80 [88, 92] sts. 

Work in ribbing of k 2, p 2 for 1”. 

Bind off loosely in ribbing.

FINISHING: 
Sew up right side seam, incl sleeve seams. 

Sew left side seam incl sleeve seam, leaving 7” free at bottom of seam for zipper. 

Make row of sc along side opening. 

Sew in zipper. 

Trim with silver beads & rhinestones along neck & sleeves as shown in photo.
