Vintage 1947 Floral Lace Girl’s Party Dress #B182

SIZE2-3 Years


MATERIALS:   Bernat’s Pompador - 4 balls
Pair #4 Knitting Needles                
#2 Steel Crochet Hook
6 Small Pearl Buttons                     
1 Skein each of green & blue Embroidery Floss


GAUGE:  6 ½ sts = 1”;  8 rows = 1”


PATTERN STITCH:  Multiple of 12 sts, plus 1.
1st row:  K 5, * yo, sl 1, k 2 tog, psso, yo, k 9, rep from * across row end k 5.

2nd row & all even rows: P.

3rd row:  K 3, * k 2 tog, yo, k 3, yo, sl 1, k 1, psso, k 5, rep from * across row end k 3.

5th row:  Same as row 1.

7th row:  K.

9th row:  K 2 tog, * yo, k 9, yo, sl 1, k 2 tog, psso, rep from * across row & end yo, sl 1, k 1, psso.

11th row:  K 2, * yo, sl 1, k 1, psso, k 5, k 2 tog, yo, k 3, rep from * across row & end
k 2.

13th row:  Same as row 9.

15th row:  K.

16th row: P.  Rep these 16 rows for patt st.


DRESS:  BACK:  
On #4 needles, cast on 145 sts.  K 6 rows [3 ridges], p 1 row, k 1 row, p 1 row.

Work rows 1 thru 7, inclusive, of patt st.  P 1 row, k 4 rows [2 ridges], p 1 row, 1 row, p 1 row. 

Work in patt st til piece meas approx 8” end with row 13 of patt st.

14th row:  P 2 tog 24 times, p 49, p 2 tog 24 times:  97 sts on the needle.

15th row:  K 2 tog 12 times, k 49, k 2 tog 12 times:  73 sts on the needle.

16th row:  P across.  Now keep 12 sts at each end of needle in st st k 1 row, p 1 row] & keep the center 49 sts in patt st.  

Work even for 1”.  

Still keep 49 center sts in patt st, start armholes.


SHAPE ARMHOLES:  
Bind off 3 sts at beg of next 2 rows [once each side].  

Work even on 67 sts til armhole meas 4 ½”, end on row 13 of patt st.


SHAPE SHOULDERS:  
Bind off 20 sts at beg of next 2 rows [once each side].  

Bind off center 27 sts for back of neck.


FRONT:  
Work in same manner as for back til armholes measure approx 3”, end with row 8 of the patt st.

Next row:  K 25, bind off 17, k 25.  

Tie in second ball & work both sides at same time.  

Keep all sts in st st & dec 1 st at the inside edges every other row til 20 sts remain.  

Work even til armholes meas same length as the back.  Bind off.


SLEEVES:  
Cast on 40 sts.  

K 5 rows.

Next row:  K 4, * inc by knitting into front & back of next st, k 3; rep from * across row:  49 sts on needle.

Work in patt st, inc 1 st both ends of needle every 4th row 3 times.  

Work even on 55 sts til sleeve meas 2” from start. 


SHAPE SLEEVE CAP:  
Bind off 3 sts at beg of next 2 rows [once each side].  

Dec 1 st at beg & end of every other row til 25 sts remain.  K 2 tog across row.  Bind off.


FINISHING:  
Join side seams & sleeve seams.  

Join shoulder seams at the arm sides for ½”.  

Set in sleeves.  

Work 3 rows of sc across entire back [2 shoulders & neck].  Fasten off.  

With right side of work facing you, work 1 row of sc across left front shoulder, around front neck formation & across right shoulder.  

On second row of sc form 3 buttonholes, evenly spaced, on each shoulder.


BUTTONHOLE:  
Ch 2, sk 2 sc & work in sc to next buttonhole.  

On the 3rd row of sc complete buttonholes by placing 2 sc in each space made by ch 2.  

Press dress with damp cloth & moderate iron.  

Embroider roses in blue & leaves in green in the center of 3 center lace-stitch flowers, as shown in photo.
