Vintage 1940s Dainty Lace Girl’s Party Dress #B183

SIZE:  3-4 Years


MATERIALS:  
American Thread Company “Sillateen”, “Sansil” 22 balls white or cream
1 Ball peach or other contrasting color
#9 or #10 Steel Crochet hook


GAUGE:  YOKE: 
23 dc = 2”: 
9 rows = 2”


BACK YOKE: 
Ch 54, dc in 4th st from hook, 1 dc in each rem ch, ch 3, turn.  [Work should meas about 4 ½”.]

2nd row:  1 dc in 2nd dc, ** ch 1, sk 1 dc, puff st in next st, [puff st * yo hook, insert in st & pull up length of dc, rep from * twice, yo, pull thru all loops but 1, yo, pull thru 2 loops] rep from ** across row end with 2 dc, ch 3, turn.

3rd row:  1 dc in dc & 1 dc in each ch & puff st, ch 3, turn. 

Last 2 rows form patt of yoke. 

Work 9 more rows even.

13th row:  Beg shoulder decs.  Omit last 2 puff sts. 

14th row:  Sl st to 6th dc, ch 3, work to end of row.

15th row:  Beg shaping neck.  Sl st to 1st puff st, ch 1, sc in ch, sdc over puff st, dc across row omit last 2 puff sts.

16th row:  Sl st to 6th dc, ch 3, dc in next dc, work 7 puff sts, ch 1, sk 1 st, 1 sdc in next st, sc in next st, ch 1, turn.

17th row:  Sl st to 5th puff st, ch 3, dc over ch, dc in next puff st, break thread & work other half of back yoke to correspond.

FRONT YOKE: 
Ch 108 & work 1st 12 rows even.  [Work should meas about 9 ½”.]

13th row:  Sl st to ch past 2nd puff st, ch 3, work 34 dc, 1 sdc, 1 sc, ch 1, turn.

14th row:  Sl st over sc, sdc & 4 dc, sc in next st, sdc in next st & cont row  omit last 5 dc, ch 1, turn.

15th row:  Sl st to ch past 2nd puff st, ch 3, work 14 dc, 1 sdc, 1 sc, ch 1, turn.
16th row:  Sl st to 3rd dc, 1 sc, 1 sdc, 2 puff st, ch 1, skip 1st, 1 dc in next st, ch 1, turn.

17th row:  Sl st to ch beyond 1st puff st, ch 3, dc over puff st & next ch, break thread & complete other side of front yoke to correspond.


SKIRT:
 Join thread to lower edge of front yoke, ch 3, dc in each of next 2 dc
* ch 2, sk 1 dc, dc in next dc, ch 2, dc in same dc, rep from * across row end row with 3 dc, ch 3, turn.

2nd row:  1 Dc in each of next 2 dc, * ch 5, sl st in 4th st from hook for picot, ch 1, sk 1 loop, dc in next loop, ch 3, dec in same loop, rep from * across row end with 3 dc, break thread & rep these 2 rows across 1 section of back yoke, break thread.

Join thread to lower back edge of 2nd half of back yoke, rep 2 rows of skirt patt, ch 3, turn, dc in each of next 2 dc, * picot loop, 2 dc with ch 3 bet in next loop, rep from * across row end with 3 dc, ch 18 pick up front yoke, work 3 dc & cont across front yoke end with 3 dc, ch 18 & work across other half of back yoke in same manner, ch 3, turn.

4th row:  Work same as last row, work 1 sc in each ch st at underarm.

5th row:  Work same as last row to underarm, dc in 2nd dc, ch 3, dc in same sp, * picot loop, sk 2 sts, 2 dc with ch 3 bet in next st, rep from * 5 times, cont patt across front yoke & work other underarm to correspond, complete row, ch 3, turn, work 3 more rows, then join skirt with a sl st.

Sl st to 2nd dc, ch 6, dc in same space, picot loop, cont patt to last picot loop, work last picot loop, dc in 2nd dc, ch 3, dc in same sp, picot loop, sl st in 3rd st of ch.

Next row:  Sl st into loop, ch 6, dc in same sp, cont patt all around joining row in 3rd st of ch. 

Rep last row until skirt meas 15” or desired length.

Sleeves are worked right into armhole. 

Sew shoulder seams. 

Join thread in 3rd right hand row from shoulder seam & work 1 sc, * picot loop, 2 dc with ch 3 bet over end st of next row, rep from *, picot loop, 2 dc with ch 3 bet in shoulder seam, * picot loop, 2 dc with ch 3 bet over next dc, rep from * twice, 1 sc over each of next 2 dc, * ch 1, turn, work patt over each patt, picot loop, 2 dc with ch 3 bet in same space with last sc of prev row, 1 sc over each of next 2 dc, rep from * until patt is worked around entire armhole. 

When working into sc at underarm sk 3 sc & work 3 sc at end of each row before turning & complete patt in last row. 

Work 2 rows of patt all around.

Next row:  Work 1 sc in each dc & 1 sc in each picot then work 1 row of dc. 

Finish sleeve with beading.

BEADING FOR FRONT & BACK YOKES & SLEEVES: 
Ch 10, work 9 sc over ch, ch 3, turn.  1 dc in 2nd sc, * ch 9, 1 dc in each of last 2 sts, ch 3, turn, dc in 2nd dc, ch 9, 1 dc in dc & end ch, ch 3, turn, dc in dc, ch 5, sc over two 9 ch loops, ch 5, dc in dc & end ch, ch 3 turn, dc in 2nd dc & rep from * for length req & finish with 2 rows as follows:  ch 3, dc in 2nd dc, ch 5, 1 dc in last dc & end ch, ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each dc & st of ch. 

Without breaking thread work following scallop across long side; dc over 1st dc, * ch 1, dc in same sp, rep from * twice, sc over next dc, * shell over next dc, sc over next dc, rep from * across edge & work other side to correspond, break thread. 

Join color bet 2 dc, * ch 4, sl st bet next 2 dc, rep from * across row. 

Sew beading in position place yoke beading above skirt & lace with ribbon as illustrated. 

Finish neck of dress with scallop same as scallop on beading.

Work 54 sc down each side of back of dress then across 1 side work 1 sc, * ch 4, sk 3 sc, sc in each of next 3 sc, rep from * 5 times [6 buttonholes down yoke] cont sc on skirt & other side of back opening.
