Materials:
J
& P Coats Knit-Cro-Sheen, 4 balls Main Color [MC], & 1 ball Contrasting
Color [CC]

Bone Crochet Hook

yd each Buckram & Felt [lining material matching Contrasting Color]
Use 4 threads throughout.
Gauge:
4
Sc = 1”;
4
½ rnds = 1”
Front:
Start
at center, with MC, ch 4. Join.
1st rnd:
10
Sc in ring.
2nd rnd:
2
Sc in each sc around.
3rd rnd:
Sc
in each sc around.
4th rnd:
2
Sc in each sc around [ 40 sc].
5th & 6th rnds: Sc in each sc around.
7th rnd:
* 2
Sc in next sc, sc in next sc. Rep from *
around [60 sc].
8th, 9th & 10th
rnds: Sc in each sc around.
11th rnd:
Same
as 7th rnd [90 sc].
12th to 15th rnds: Sc in each sc around.
16th rnd:
* 2
Sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc. Rep from
* around [120 sc].
17th to 21st rnds: Sc in each sc around.
At
end of 21st rnd, sl st in next sc.
Break off.
Back:
Work
as for Front until 18 rnds are complete.
19th rnd:
Ch
7, sk 7 sc, sc in each sc to end of rnd.
20th rnd:
Sc
in next 7 ch, sc in each sc to end of rnd.
21st rnd:
Sc
in each sc around. Sl st in next
sc. Break off.
Change Purse:
Work
as for Front until 5 rnds are complete.
6th rnd:
Ch
5, sk 5 sc, sc in each sc around.
7th rnd:
Sc
in next 5 ch, sc in each sc to end of rnd.
Sl st in next sc. Break off.
With
CC, make ch 14” long. Break off &
whip around edge of Change Purse.
Tongue:
Start
at center with MC, ch 15.
1st row:
Sc
in 10th ch from hook & in each ch across. Ch 1, turn.
2nd row:
Sc
in each sc, sc in next 3 ch, 2 sc in next 3 ch, sc in next 3 ch.
Work
on opposite side of starting ch, make sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.
3rd row:
Sc
in each sc across to 1st 2-sc group, 2 sc in next 6 sc, sc in each
sc across. Break off.
With
CC, make ch 8” long. Break off. Whip around edges of Tongue.
Gusset & Strap:
Start
at center with MC, ch 155.
1st rnd:
3
Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across, 3 sc in last ch.
Work
across opposite side of starting ch, make sc in each ch across.
2nd rnd:
2
Sc in next 3 sc, sc in each sc to next 3-sc group, 2 sc in next 3 sc, sc in
each sc to end of rnd.
3rd rnd:
Sc
in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next 2 sc, sc in each sc to next 2-sc group at opposite
end, sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next 2 sc, sc in each sc to end of rnd.
4th rnd:
Sc
in each sc around. Sl st in next
sc. Break off.
Leave
2 ½’ of Gusset piece free, pin Gusset bet Front & Back [have buttonhole at
center top of Back], leave 9 ½” free at top.
Work
thru both thicknesses, make sc in each sc around, join Gusset to Bag.
Overlap
ends of Strap & sew together.
Turn
bag pieces inside out & make paper patt to fit exactly.
Cut
buckram from patt, cut lining ½” larger all around.
Sew
lining pieces over buckram, turning back ½” allowance all around.
Line
bag with buckram & lining material.
Sew
Change Purse to center of Front, leave 5 ½” free at top [buttonhole side].
Sew
straight edge of tongue in place.
Small Button:
With
CC, ch 10.
1st row:
Sc
in 2nd ch from hook & in each ch across. Ch 1, turn.
2nd row:
Sc
in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.
Rep
the 2nd row until piece meas 2”.
Break off.
Cover
2” piece of pencil with felt & then sew small button piece over this.
Ch
15 & sew and end of ch around button.
Sew
opposite end to Bag 1” above Tongue.
Large Button:
With
CC, ch 12.
Complete
as for Small Button.
Sew
free end of ch to Front opposite buttonhole.

JULIA’S PURSE LINING NOTES:
Make
paper patt for each crocheted piece before joinings & lay aside to be used
later.
Cut
lining according to paper patts & sew tog.
Shirr
lining bag form to correspond with crocheted bag.
Insert
finished lining in bag.
Sew
in zipper [if desired].
Note: Cardboard
or lightweight plastic may be inserted between bag & lining to give shape
of bag extra support.
