SIDES [MAKE 2]:
Starting at center of diamond, ch 5. Join with sl st to form ring.
Starting at center of diamond, ch 5. Join with sl st to form ring.
1ST RND:
Ch 3, 3 dc in ring, * ch 2, 4 dc in ring. Rep from * 2 more times, ch 2, join with sl
st to top of starting ch-3. Turn.
2ND RND:
Sl st in space, ch 3, 3 dc in same sp, ch 2, 4 dc in same sp, * ch 1, in
next sp work 4 dc, ch 2 & 4 dc. Rep
from * around. Join last ch-1 with sl st
to top of starting ch-3. Turn.
3RD RND:
Sl st in sp, ch 3, 3 dc in same sp, * ch 1, in corner sp work 4 dc, ch 2
& 4 dc, ch 1, 4 dc in next sp. Rep
from * around. Join & turn.
Cont in this manner, working 4 dc with ch 1 bet groups in
each sp along each side, & 2 groups of 4 dc with ch 2 bet in each corner,
until diamond meas 6 ½” to 7” across [from point to point]. Sl st to nearest corner.
NEXT ROW: Sc in
corner sp, sc in each dc & each ch-1 to next corner, in corner work 3 sc,
then work sc in each dc & each ch-1 to following corner, in this corner
work 1 sc, then ch 1, turn.
FOLLOWING ROW: Work
in back lp only of each st as
follows: Sk 1 st, sc in each sc to
corner, in corner st work 3 sc, then work sc in each st across to 2 sts from
end of prev row, sk 1 st, work sc in last st.
Ch 1, turn.
NEXT ROW: Same as
prev row, excpt working thru both lps of
each st. Ch 1, turn.
Rep last 2 rows alternately [there should be same number of
sts on each row], until point meas 3” from diamond, then work along one side
only dec 1 st at each end of every row until all sts are worked off.
Attach corde to other side of same sc piece & work
other corner to correspond.
Attach corde to other side of diamond & work in same
manner, makind 1st row of sc on wrong
side of work.
FINISHING:
Cut pattern of pieces.
Cut pattern of pieces.
Sew crocheted pieces tog, then work 1” of sc around top of
bag, be careful not to dec.
NEXT ROW: Sc around,
inc 12 sts in rnd for cuff. Turn.
Now work 1 rnd of sc in back lp only, & 1 rnd in both
lps, alternately, for 1 ¼”. Fasten
off.
Make lining [with slide fastener/zipper], insert in bag
& sew in place.
Make 2” chain & attach pull to slide fastener tab.
MISS
JULIA’S PURSE LINING NOTES:
[Before joining finished pattern pieces]
Make paper patt from crocheted pieces & lay aside to be
used later.
Cut lining according to paper patt & sew tog.
Shirr lining bag form to correspond with crocheted bag.
Insert finished lining in bag.
Sew in zipper [if desired].
Attach ornament to zipper pull tab [if desired].
Note: Cardboard or lightweight plastic may be
inserted between 2 layers of lining & bag to give shape extra support.
